Very nice. 50 years ago we called this a caving bicycle rig, because of the 'pedaling' motion of our legs & feet. I used 3 Gibbs ascenders (much like your foot ascender), which provided more drag, so proper posture was critical for drag management & pedal speed. Today, I do most of my climbing above ground, but would replace my chest ascender with a Petzel Nano/MicroTraxion or RollinLock (depending on the environment), and my round bungees (which went thru shoulder biners to the back of my seat harness), with your flat elastic bands & collar strap (which should be more comfortable).

Ropewalker technic. Old use in speleo.and arborwork
@bonsaidevelopment10163 жыл бұрын
Speleo? Yeah in arboriculture it's pretty norm, was just saying how I'd wasted years climbing w/ JUST foot + hand ascenders, meaning my hitch fully bit every stride & had to tend it w/ my left hand while ascending, I had micropulleys but didn't find them effective so didn't use them/they got dusty....then after splicing a new batch of hitches & deciding to try new hitch-knots, I realized "Oh this hitch would react to a micropulley better" and, when thinking it, realized "wait wait....the knee ascender means the line is always under tension, which'd mean that micropulley would always be able to move the hitch cleanly" (I'd always had my left foot in a foot loop that went to my hand-ascender, figured 'It's just like a knee ascender' lol), got a knee ascender and jeeeebus what a difference, can just climb a line w/ the hitch "ready" to grab but otherwise staying at consistent rate of bite/friction, just a total treat! Do you use a rope wrench? I spent so long thinking "Don't fix what isn't broken" as I could move quite fast w/ my hand-tending-hitch setup, but seeing the difference a micropulley & knee-ascension made has me 2nd-guessing my overlooking of the rope wrench..

That rope never wants to let the foot ascender slide upward w/o drag, does it?!? lol c'est la vie!! Also FWIW you can usually make a foot cam "rope inescapable" by just putting a carabiner through its hole, for instance I use a Pantin(well, a $15 chinese clone of one :P ) which has a hole that 1 regular 'biner, or 2 micro 'biners, can be put through to effectively "pin" the cam so the line cannot escape the ascender ;) I spent years with just foot+hand ascender (am in arboriculture), I don't use any mechanical hitching/cams for life support like your system did but simply using a friction hitch + micropulley beneath it (tethered to an over-shoulder like yours) does the same function, SO LONG AS you use a knee ascender (otherwise line-tension isn't consistently there when you're not striding on the ascender, and the pulley can't pull the hitch when the line's not under some tension) I went so long w/o realizing that, tending my hitch by hand, just got a knee ascender weeks ago (and added the micropulley under my hitch, so my over-shoulder could tend it upward) and when both feet are tethered to the line at points below the hitch, line-tension is maintained and, like with your mechanical device in this vid, one can simply walk right up the rope it is awesome :D Thanks for sharing the demo, A+ content / thumbs-up'd!! [BTW it's nice to see Mercury rope getting use, I have hanks on hanks of it lol, how are you liking it? TBH I'm left wondering why it's not THE most-popular rope out there considering it's bargain priced yet it's by Samson and is one of the strongest 7/16th lines on earth (that's climbable/shock-absorptive IE not dyneema or aramid fibers, for standard 'person climbing' lines - IE poly's & nylon's - the Mercury line is 8.5k static strength with a 3.5% elongation @10% which means it can take dynamic hits at about 85% of my 1/2" Polydyne bullrope!)]

@axelmanz86486 жыл бұрын

@midoma724 жыл бұрын
@axelmanz86483 жыл бұрын
