They came out brilliant for the scale, which as you said is absolutely the way you need to look at it. I was thinking I’d be giving it a miss as I just didn’t have the time to invest in trying to detail each marine, you might have changed my opinion here. I’d love to see you tackle some of the larger scenery kits as they will likely be the biggest things you paint for epic right? And also the titans I mean who can resist a Titan 🤣.

You can still play with your older stuff though! Bases would have to change for certain games but there’s no reason not to dig out your old stuff and see if you like the new rules etc before buying into it! Old epic was 6mm and these are 8mm!

Great video. May well be doing the sons of Dorn myself. I’ve dabbled with smaller scales previously and one thing I recommend is putting some time into the bases. Well based models of this size can take a passable paint job on the figures and make them look really good.

I just got into Imperalis, want to play Loyalist Emperors Children. Your vid gave me a lot of confidence that this is managable. Tho i do worry abkut the banner as banners are skmething i put a lot of effort into. The only transfers i have are the one for the thunderhawk which was the first thing i bought.

Detail is very nice. There is undercutting on the infantry due to them being one piece but so nice. A good bit better then flames. Although I still love flames.

It’s just my method I get a really sold coat of black. And the. Like a heavy dusting of white. So any parts left black will act as shadows for the models.

Sorry for the potentially thickie question, but why do you spray black then white, rather than just white? Does the initial black spray give some shading?

Not a silly question! The black is a full all over coat to cover up any grey plastic. The next coat makes it easier for contrast to stick to and anywhere you miss with paint will be black from the original primer so your eyes don’t notice it. It also adds shadow to the underside as well. I hope this makes sense?

E you could have primered in white and then airbrushed the yellow. That would have saved a lot of time. You could have airbrushed the Nuln oil on as well and knocked that out a whole lot faster?

Hey Andy, and how is the quality of these sculpts? I've seen some pictures which made me doubtful - stuff that looked like those 2001 Uruk-Hai shenanigans. Those kits are a bit pricey for the amount of plastic that we are actually getting out of it. You've mentioned that the stocks of the bolters go into the body of the marines, but on the photo's I've seen sometimes the arm, bolter and pauldron became one messy thing. From the distance you've showed those tiny Imperial Fists they looks really good (and you made me think about which Legion I would choose, which is awful, as I want to skip this game for at least a couple months), but I'd like to see your opinion as someone that actually held those miniatures in hand

A connection between chest and gun at this scale is to be expected, one half of a model looking as if someone held it near an open fire is awful, escpecially at this price point. Read my post carefully, the 'stock goes into the body' bit from the video is mentioned there :)

I hadn’t noticed any shoulder pad melding. Just the gap between. Yeh Bolter and chest is all filled in. Hence me using black for the guns it hides it all very well. As a posed to silver that would make it jump out.

I did a lot of 15mm models and there is endless highlighting/shading potential. You just have to use stronger contrasts to do well. Still models this big are even EASIER to paint well than 28mm.

Advice for future - when painting the infantry, do one side all at once, then the other side - you'll save 5-10 minutes just by not having to switch it around 300 times.

That’s actually bad advice. As contrast doesn’t deactivate when painting when you paint like that you will get a distinct line in the paint where the new and old paint meet each other. You need to get one compete coat on the model before any of it drys for the best result. So I knowing takes a little more time but it’s worth it.
