On the issue of GWs latest Paint Pots, two options: re bottle them, I buy 1oz dropper bottles 50 at a time for £8 delivered, you can even peel the GW labels off and place on dropper bottles. Or for those sticky lids use a simple beer bottle opener, saves green teeth! 😉

@@MidwinterMinis I have Citadel paints from 20 yrs ago and unbelievably about 50% are still useable. Back when they were value for money, sadly no longer seem to be the case. Ave you ever used professional grade inks, like FW or Liquitex pro range, incredibly versatile as they have such high pigment load, so can be used out of the pot with great flow properties and great opacity, or thinned into Oblivion to use as a wash or glaze. Drop for drop so much cheaper than "Modelling" paints.

GW won't fix the paint pots. It's been an issue for decades and I think it's a deliberate business decision. A friend has paint in a Vallejo paint pot about 20 years old that is still liquid and usable. He also has Citadel paint that is rock hard after a few months. GW I think make the pots that way so you have to keep buying more no matter if you paint regularly or infrequently, so they keep their profits up. It's not as if their paints are already the most expensive out there *sarcasm*

Hello ! I'm coming here for help (and also the cool video). I'm a total beginner at the hobby (only painted 1.5 miniatures, mechanicus one) with the paint of a friend. But, I want my own paints ! Problem here : I'm broke and when I look at Midwinter videos, I see he use few paints thats are not overly pricy (I'm looking at you Citadel) and here my question... These paints are enough for someone, like me, that want to do a all bunch of different minis (not even the Blackstone Fortress one) and to take time to make beautiful minis (I don't want to speed paint) ? Thank you in advance ^^ !
@MidwinterMinis5 жыл бұрын
Hello! Yes, this colour palette of 14 paints will let you get similar results to hundreds of unique paints. I would recommend watching the "intro tips and tricks" video in this series, it details the paints I recommend :) Good luck!

@@MidwinterMinis I've watched it, and it's really useful, I can get all the paints for 37€ (33£ if you're a tea drinker !). I hope it will be enough for me, and hope I will manage to mix these paints ^^ Thank you !

Awesome, in that case, and if you like the paint jobs in this series, I'm sure you'll be fine! Once you're comfortable with them, you can always expand with a new paint here and there, when you feel like you need them :)
@toteZitrone5 жыл бұрын
Actually, if you are really, really short at money, technically 4-5 colours would be enough since you can mix every colour from red, yellow and blue, plus white to make it lighter and perhaps black to get it really pure dark. I wouldn't really recommend buying only these because it will be hard to recreate the exact same tone again, but it is definitely worth it thinking about what colour you might be able to skip, or replace with a special colour like a metallic because you only need it occasionally. I often find that starter boxes aren't the best way of building your own personal palette with colours you actually like and need. So I would recommend buying those "pure" colours and adding some other tones that you know you're going to use often / much to begin with.
@blovarsk10695 жыл бұрын

0:12 she’s joking, but she is right. Gaming in general (board games, tabletop war games, videogames), due to their general appeal to a male audience, often are incredibly misogynistic and shallow in their portrayal of women. I advocate for equality..... Let’s have some naked people of both genders :] Don’t stop female models being sexualised, just sexualise male models too. That way, rather than trying to convince people “hey, women in games can absolutely have personalities” you simply have to show them a male who doesn’t have any character and is simply objectified, that way the logic follows that “oh okay, if I’m a male and I think if I have a personality, yet this guy doesn’t, and I don’t want to objectify myself with a generalisation... then I logically can’t generalise another gender without directly being a hypocrite”. I’m just joking around, I don’t mind if we make female models less sexualised or have male models that are just there for being hot asf too. All I care about is that at some point we do indeed change this up a bit, and we are - it’s slow but we’re getting there.

Citadels paints aren't perfect, but I honestly hate Dropper Bottles. No hate for anyone who uses the things, I just honestly hate using them.

They both have their bonuses, but for me dropper bottles just make stuff so easy.

@tsmole685 жыл бұрын
White paint is heavily pigmented and is the colour that notoriously suffers from drying, get yourself a pot of flow improver, you need the smallest amount.
@MidwinterMinis5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's notorious for that. I use Vallejo White, which seems much better :) Don't be afraid to add a little more water than you usually would when thinning :) See what works best.

I hate the citadel pots, they're so messy. Sometimes the paint even squelches out the back for some reason. Please, please, please Citadel change your pots! Every other hobby paint I've used has a better pot/bottle.

Yeah, it's a love-hate relationship for me. Their paints are, in my opinion, second to none. The pots, umm. Not so much.

Games workshop paint pots are either the greatest example of incompetence I've ever seen, or a nefarious means to force people to spend more money on products they already purchased by drying them out / spilling them.

I don't know much about lenses, but I think your range of focus might be too narrow. There are parts where her feet are in focus, but her head is out of focus, etc. The whole model isn't in focus all the time. For example kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaiolmSsbJKtra8 switches from her head to the flames being out of focus as you move the model around. I love the content, but the focus is distracting.
@MidwinterMinis5 жыл бұрын
Yup! I'm working on it. Just figuring out how best to balance image quality with focus, and painting with a camera right in my face, haha. Thanks for the feedback :)

Sensible armor? Lass, she ain't got not helmet. Practical concerns are way at the back of the priority when it comes to model design in 40k as evidenced by oversized flamerthrower-chainsaw while wearing highly flammable robes (far more egregious than armor shaped to emphasize certain body parts, which were a thing historically and not a super huge inconvenience). If the perspective is political in nature, let's please not go there. There's a lot of cool stuff on this channel and I'd rather enjoy warhammer together than have an ideology govern the hobby.
@MidwinterMinis5 жыл бұрын
You can enjoy things without agreeing with them, don't worry! Understanding people's opinions without accepting them for yourself is a keystone of maturity and intelligence :) Historically though, boob-armour was deadly. The cleavage recess would crush your sternum if you were knocked from the front, or fell down face-first. The few historical examples were mostly ceremonial.
@themanclaw25 жыл бұрын
@@MidwinterMinis Sorry if I came off as a bit defensive; I've had a lot of experience with people coming forward and demanding that a fandom remove certain characters or aesthetics from the subject matter because it goes against their political ideology, and I don't think it's fair for people to impose their politics on other people. I'm not lumping you into this category because I honestly don't know your position on that, but I do know your make good content on this channel and that people can disagree on real-world issues and still enjoy the game together. Just to clarify something I was saying though, I didn't mean that boob armor was super prevalent historically (there weren't a lot of women in plate historically). When I said armor that emphasized certain body parts, I was more referring to Greco-Roman breastplates which had round pecs and abs shaped into them. Also, in the middle ages, there were these slightly impractical, very sizable codpieces they wore to emphasize one's... Masculinity. Basically, the male equivalent of boob plate wasn't super rare. Sure, boob plate isn't 100% optimal; a strike to the chest my slide toward the sternum, but if it did, it's not going to breach the armor there because most of the force would already have been lost hitting the chest. So, even though it isn't super practical, it's not even in the same league as not wearing a helmet or wearing shoulder pads the size of aircraft carriers. If 40k was 100% practical, it wouldn't 40k. As long as both male and female models are occasionally given the same treatment (as we see with those male models like scions, Janus Draik, and blood angels that have cod pieces, or the scantily clad barbarians), I don't think there is a problem here, and people should be left to enjoy whatever models they want.

@@themanclaw2 I get you, mate! I just think Penny was excited to see a woman in the 40k universe who looked like they were dressed to kick some ass, rather than do a striptease, haha.

@manclaw It seems like you are the one who is jumping to politics and ideology and she is just expressing her taste and preferences about depiction of "female body" in armour, as a female.

@@drpenny9844 I could come back with some long-winded retort about how there isn't anything wrong with men creating things that they want from their perspective in the same way that there's nothing wrong with women depicting males the way they want in romance novels, but I'll just leave it at that. This is a nice channel and you seem like a cool person, Penny, so even though I might have been quick to react toward potential signs of real world politics in warhammer, I don't hold it against you personally or what both of you do here.
