Awesome vid! You're on a streak!! Edit: now that I have watched it, this is all spot on! Keep it simple, put details where they matter, overall look is dark and gloomy, awesome! Fantastic job, really!

Thankyou Miguel! I was definitely trying to keep it simple and gloomy, and while you know I love the classics, these new Blood Knight models are certainly neat!

I like the way you do the armor, I kept wondering how to achieve a realistic dark armor on my dark elves
@TheHobbyGrotto3 жыл бұрын
Thankyou! This colour armour would look great on Dark Elves! I generally like to keep the armour dark on minis so it doesn't draw the eye away from the bright feature colours and focal points 😊

This is perfect for my soulblight graves lords. Going army of the dead themed for all my bony boys and wanted a more darker, more menacing look for my vampires.

Great work yet again mate. Really liking your mixed dark metallic colours on the armour. It’s subtle but very effective also. Nice contrast between the bright green and the dark armour too. Keep up the awesome work 👍🏻
@TheHobbyGrotto2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dan, this is one of my favourite colour schemes, and is the way I paint my personal undead army. On top of that, I think Sybarite Green is my favourite GW paint, any excuse to use it 🤣
@TheHobbyGrotto2 жыл бұрын
Just to add on, I think undead work really well with these simple bold schemes because you've also got the contrast of the bone, so with a bright green thats two bright stark colours, and keeping the armour dark really lets the contrast out. This works so well with undead because the models themselves with the bones and what not already create solid contrast in the sculpting. Just some of my thoughts 😊
@Bread0fHeaven2 жыл бұрын
@@TheHobbyGrotto yeah o have to agree with this. Those stark colours really do shine when put up against the darker armour. Really lovely stuff. I also did something equally constructing with my ghosts for my nighthaunt army. I’ll hopefully get to show them off at some point in the future. Looking forward to seeing more of your work mate 👍🏻

Love this! So vibrant, yet menacing at the same time. Perfect for this army! I will definitely use this scheme for my Soulblight Revenant Legion + will use metal mix for Nagash's armor! Sybarite Green is really underused color, yet so beautiful in it's tone.

Thankyou, glad the tutorial helped! Sybarite Green is one of my favourite colours, I'm always disappointed when I can't work it in there 🤣

Hey.mate, What tour recipe for vamp skin? I seen you use dark reaper but what colours are you highlighting with? Cheers for any help
@TheHobbyGrotto Жыл бұрын
Hi mate, thanks for watching! Because it's such a small area, I was just mixing a bit of white with the Dark Reaper for subsequent highlights, for larger areas I will sometimes use a light grey for mixing before moving onto the white, but I've been meaning to make a video on different ways to paint vampiric flesh so perhaps I should get onto that! 😊

That is a great video! Any ideas for pushing the paint scheme to look like the cover art on the tome
@TheHobbyGrotto2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! 😁 I had a look at the Battletome, there are a number of ways you could achieve that metallic armour effect. One way is to paint it in metallics and then put a red glaze over the top. I have a video on painting TMM where I use this method to paint purple metallic armour so you'd just swap out the purple glaze for a red one, something like Flesh Tearers Red contrast would be good. If you want to go more traditional, you could paint it in standard red, and then gloss varnish it at the end, this will make it look more like lacquered armour. You could even paint it traditional red and edge highlight it with a silver, this also gives an armour effect.

very nice scheme, it is weird having a skull for head the horse but normal legs, i am thinking of paint them also bone color, what do you think?
@TheHobbyGrotto3 жыл бұрын
Thankyou, haha I agree I would have preferred more bone parts on the legs or just an entire skeleton horse. I do like the bone skull as it adds another colour to help contrast, but it does seem a little out of place given the rest of the mount 😀

Great vid, big fan of the turquoise bhigh points. You might save time in the future using warplock bronze over the rhinox/ironwarrior mix? It's a very dark brown metal
@TheHobbyGrotto3 жыл бұрын
Thankyou! I'll definitely check out Warplock Bronze, I've been meaning to pick up some more brassy, bronzey colours. Actually what I really miss is the old Tin Bitz paint, that would be perfect with some of my colour schemes these days 😀

Great video mate 👍. Quick question for this units standard how are you painting the flag. Bright to introduce more colour ?
@TheHobbyGrotto2 жыл бұрын
I haven't painted the standard bearer yet, distracted with other projects haha. But when I get to it, I would paint it predominantly black, with green and white details to keep in theme with the rest of my army, and also I think this would create some nice contrast with the sculpted details 😁

Love the look of this Scheme. Any chance you could do Vamp lord on Zombo Dragon or the new Vampire Lord?
@TheHobbyGrotto3 жыл бұрын
Thankyou! I'm currently working on a Vampire Lord conversion and paint, so stay tuned for that video in the coming months 😁 As for the Zombie Dragon, I'd actually really like one in my army, so I'm definitely adding this to the list of potential videos in the future!
@Chaostsao3 жыл бұрын
@@TheHobbyGrotto Great to hear. I didnt even think about it but what about the new Zombos? I think beyond the zombo dragon, thats the other model I think would need a video to see how you would match the scheme to the rest of the army.
@TheHobbyGrotto3 жыл бұрын
I actually use the old zombies in my Soulblight army, they are painted in a different scheme because I like the look of more random zombies. The new models are lovely though, so would definitely be fun to paint some time in the future! 😁

I find using inks or contrast paints overtop true metalics has a much nicer effect than mixing metalics and non-metalics if you still want them shiny. Probably wouldn't work for this scheme but something I've learned that's nice for brighter coloured metals.
@TheHobbyGrotto3 жыл бұрын
Definitely, contrast paints are an awesome tool with many applications, I'm particularly fond of using them for glazing. In fact, I used them in my TMM video to give the metal a coloured tint, so we're definitely thinking on the same page! 😄

Just curious because there isn't a right or wrong answer as it seems: do you varnish your tabletop minis?
@TheHobbyGrotto3 жыл бұрын
Hey there! I do try to always varnish my gaming minis, mainly just for my own peace of mind, but it can change the look of the paint job so if I'm doing display shots I varnish after those are all completed. My varnish of choice is just a light coat of Testors Dullcote, as I prefer a matte finish. Another important thing about varnish is that it gives all the paints the same finish, which can also be useful to bring everything together visually at the end 😁
@2MeatyOwlLegs3 жыл бұрын
@@TheHobbyGrotto Thanks for answering! I varnished all the minis from the Rising Sun board game (which were the first minis I painted) and wasn't really happy with it. It seemed to kind of dull down everything.
@TheHobbyGrotto3 жыл бұрын
It will definitely happen from time to time with matte varnish, it can be a mixed bag. I usually go back after the varnish and re-highlight any true metallic areas to bring back some shines because it's most apparent on metallics. I still however prefer the overall look of matte varnish as opposed to gloss.

I love the scheme, but I feel like one more colour would really make it pop. Maybe a different colour for the skulls and the 'chain' mail on the mount?
@TheHobbyGrotto Жыл бұрын
Definitely! These kinds of speed paint schemes can be a good way to get the basics of the colours down, and then expand on them further by adding more details like that! 😊
