If these kids were at this camp in the 30’s I would say their parents were at least middle to upper class. The 30’s were hard times for most.

The cost to attend summer camp currently runs from $350 - $650 . Higher in some locations. If a parent has two or three boys, it is cost prohibitive for most parents. Camperships help.

@@charlesperkins7746Seems like about 10-15 years ago, scout camp was about $200. The expense can be offset by popcorn sales.

Did anyone else see the boy break his shovel and then go back at it with the shovel head like nothing happened? Kids haven't changed that much.

My father, Aloysius Bernard Cronin, was born on 23 Feb 1908 and lived in Hackensack NJ. He was a Boy Scout along with Ozzie Nelson. Ozzie was an Eagle Scout. My father told me that Ozzie was a real jerk.

*At least this wasn't one of the German-American Bund Camps.*
@Sashazur
@Sashazur 5 күн бұрын
For those who don’t know what that was… the German American Bund was a society created to promote Nazi ideals in the USA. It was formed by Nazi sympathizers in the mid 1930s. Only people with German ancestry could join (and of course Jews and communists weren’t allowed). One of the things they did was summer camps to indoctrinate kids. Even though most Bund members insisted they were patriotic Americans, the movement was never really popular overall and it caused a lot of controversy, even within the German-American community. The Bund was dismantled when the USA joined WW2 but it had already started to decline a few years before that.

I was a Boy Scout in the 1950's, and you're right it was more like military training. But remember our Scout leaders were the veterans who had just come back from WWII. We got up to Reveille, stood formation, had inspections, marched, had survival training, learned all sorts of bushcraft and rope skills, as well as marksmanship. They figured we were the next generation of soldiers and this was pre-boot camp.

My theory is there are too many idiots in sunglasses sitting in their trucks whining about the world, teaching kids that’s how an adult acts. Horrible influence.

Flash backs. Creepy-ass dudes. Only skinny boys. I was a fat one- beaver then cub. Dudes were creepy in the 1980's too.

If you think dudes were creepy back in the day, there’s no reason to think they aren’t creepy now too. Skinny or fat has nothing to do with creepy.
