Tip when removing springs on the front. Tilt the drum toward the spring you want to remove. It Takes some of the tension off making it a lot easier to remove the spring.

I liked the "I don't use any special tools, they're always trying to get you to buy special tools you don't need". True, but and I don't mean to pee in your corn flakes, I HAVE to critique one BIG mistake @30:02 , the bottom seal sanded tub prep. You sanded all the protective porcelain off at least 1" + inches around the sealant area down to bare metal, BUT you did not cover *ALL* of the bare metal with sealant to PROTECT it from rusting out and it will BIGTIME. You left a lot of EXPOSED bare steel. Yup, you fixed it, but it ain't gonna last and it'll building up rust with that constant water/detergent exposure and the detergent will act as an accelerants for the rust... Other than than that, until the base rusts out, it should hold okay.

Are the inner and outer tubs made of stainless steel on Speed Queens? Or is it only the inner tub with the holes in it that is made of stainless steel.

@schuholzjohn36254 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately like PREY stated - this repair wont last long. Another issue us the rubber NUT seal was incorrectly put on. This seal has to be put on snugly by pounding it on tightly all the way down to the bottom of the hub before the agitator hub is attached to the transmission spline. Also no lubricant was used on the agitator hub before assembly. I find it a lot easier to just take off the washer shell - 11 screws. Also - whats wrong with using the red sealant that's included in the seal hub kit (646P3 kit has sealant with it) ? I'm sure you have installed these also as your laundry mat has lots of Speed Queen washers.

Thanks for training how to install bearing and seal kit service technician asking 525 .00 to install Kit . paid 650.00 new in 2013 my rule it was getting to point to replace it After installing the kit think it’s a very poor design for a commercial machine. And now to replace it is 1300.00.

Do you have any videos showing the installation of the other Speed Queen hub and seal kit, 646P3? I believe it was used on the older Speed Queens. It doesn't have the bearing incorporated into the lower part of the seal, and it is a one piece seal. I am confused by the little sleeve that goes over the shaft of the hub. They don't seem to use any sealant on that part, and I cannot see how water would not leak out between the hub and the sleeve. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just did this kit a couple of weeks ago on another one. But I found a link to the manual for the kit that describes it way better than I ever could. www.amresupply.com/file/177468/

@@ThereIfixedityt, I actually have the instruction sheet because I bought the kit in the hopes that I may be able to use the parts for my Amana ALW480DAW. This is a late 90's era machine that was made by Alliance back then, so it shares a lot of the same DNA as the Speed Queens - same motor, pump, transmission, basket, agitator, etc. The big problem is that it uses a plastic tub instead of the metal tub used by the Speed Queens, and the hub & seal kit for these is unobtanium. So I bought the 646P3 because it looks just like the parts in my Amana. My seal did not appear to be leaking, I just needed to replace the bearings, so I was hoping to just use the new hub from the kit (my existing hub virtually crumbled when I pulled. it.) Alas, after putting it all back together, I got a leak. My old hub did not use a stainless sleeve as seen in the kit - it was solid aluminum. I was hoping to make it work anyway, but after looking at things it appears that the new hub has a slightly longer shank that goes into the seal. I thought my leak was coming from between the hub and the sleeve, but now I am not so sure. I hate the idea of ditching a perfectly good machine that has served me well for 23 years just because of a stupid seal. I think I might be able to rescue the situation by getting a metal Speed Queen tub (the tall one, PN 34438P), but now I am throwing more money at it. Maybe I would be better off going with the tub design that uses the 766P3A. For now it looks like I will have to find another cheap machine to keep the wife happy for a while. I was really hoping to keep this Amana going for another 15 years or so. Thanks for the help and the videos.

About to attempt this. Thanks for taking the time on making this. Very curious about what you broke when you were putting that heavy bottom assembly back on so I can keep my eye out. Also, why did you take the pump and belt off, was that just for accessing bolts or I did I miss the reason why ? Thanks again great video.

So what was the clue that the bearing was bad? (Obviously before you took it apart?)
@ThereIfixedityt4 жыл бұрын
The bearing will start to roar or will be roaring. Another sign is water seaping through the bottom and when the washer spins out it will start throwing muddy water on the insides of the front panel.
@dougbrown74134 жыл бұрын
You start by taking the entire washer apart.... I think if I ever own a laundromat, I’ll just start taking apart the biggest pos I have and start figuring it out.
