There's actually a really good story about a guy that used to play Railsport with his father on the original Xbox. After his father passed away and he grew up, he found his old Xbox and decided to play the game again. The game has a ghost racer system and he saw his father's ghost racer on a track he could never beat his dad in. Since he was an adult now, he got a lot better and was actually passing him. But if he beat the record, his dad's ghost would go away, so he purposely slowed down on the final lap to keep his dad's memory alive.

That one tear that tracks down his face right before he lets off the gas is always that REAL kind of last look before you sacrifice yourself's feeling, but in a metaphoric sense since he's sacrificing his own chance at setting a course record legend to let the last living part of his long dead brother remain. Other's like me have a necklace, some people keep a weapon, others carry a picture, but for Speed, what he keeps to keep the last memory of his brother alive? This movie is highly underrated and doesn’t get the credit that it deserves truly. I was 8 yrs old when this movie came out and I feel that every actor played their part well and it was spot on from the classic animated series back in the 60s. I feel the reason it got so overlooked and slept on was because it was too advanced and ahead of it’s time, but I feel this movie is a hidden gem and I’m a big Speed Racer fan thanks to my Dad who also used to watch the cartoon when he was a kid.
@TheExiled1122 жыл бұрын
I do have a gripe about 1 thing in this movie. The mach 6. Its a plot hole and i even noticed it as a child. The mach 6 wasn't canonically built yet. It was made for the final race. Yet its driven in this race and the Fuji race. How is speed even using the car? It was made to be a big deal for the final race but isn't even mentioned beforehand. The mach 6 is way too fast for it to be used in any of the races beforehand. Speed was given the keys for the mach 5 but where does the mach 6 come into all of this? It comes up in the beginning, he loses the Fuji race, he wins the backalley race, and apparently the mach 6 didn't exist beforehand and is being built to be a monster of a car to go on and win the final race effortlessly. The supercharged video from the movie states that mach 6 was built for the final race. Also mach 6 must've never truly existed before the final race since otherwise it wouldn't need to be built from scratch. Multiple side characters in the movie have their cars blow up but are still able to reappear with their car later on. So the mach 6 needing to be built from scratch makes no sense.
@solblackguy Жыл бұрын
@@TheExiled112 they had a Mach 6 prototype that still wasn't stable yet. You see it causing a power outage in a deleted scene. The mach 5 that they used in the grand prix was loaded with gadgets so it probably wasn't racing legal anymore, most likely heavily damaged, or the inspector had to commandeer it to remove all the gadgets. They didn't have a car so they decided to build the Mach 6 at the last minute.
@TheExiled112 Жыл бұрын
@@solblackguy oh i didn't look at the deleted scenes. The mach 6 surprisingly doesn't have any plot importance. Nothing about improving it while hanging with royalton or how a independent racer use's such a car without sponsorships like the other racers. I would at least expect the damaged mach 6 from fuji to at least get repaired instead of building a new one from scratch. Which kinda makes me think that there's a plot hole with mach 6. If its being built from scratch, i would expect it to be done so because it wasn't meant to exist previously in the movie. Otherwise just repair and improve. Yeah the mach 5 definitely ain't race legal but i was kinda thinking that the mach 5 was originally supposed to be racers car for most of the movie since the mach 6 pops in outta nowhere with no context. Especially since at the beginning of the movie, the mach 5 had more relevance than the mach 6. We see rex giving racer the mach 5. So the mach 6 being there out of the gate seems odd.
@solblackguy Жыл бұрын
@@TheExiled112 I agree that the Mach 6 might have had a bigger story significance that they edited out later. The overall story was so good that it'd be unnecessary.

i just realized - in the anime, Racer X always holds himself back so his little brother can win the race. this movie does this backwards during this opening action sequence, when Speed deliberately loses to Rex's racing ghost. I noticed recently that the later scene when Racer X and Speed race in this same track is a parallel to the part where he's racing his brother's ghost. Some parts look really simmilar. For example: Speed slows down at the finish line (just that later he does it to bump into him, not to let him win). What makes this even better is that at the end of that race, Racer X fools Speed by making him think that he died in a crash just like he did when he was still Rex. This is just *chef's kiss*

Holy COW. Seeing this movie bumped up to 60FPS is NUTS. (Also, here’s something I wanted to point out. I think it isn’t highlighted enough just how robust the Mach 4 actually was. Even though speed let up the gas at the last second, the Mach 6 would have only beat the Mach 4 but merely a second or two if speed hadn’t slowed down. The Mach 6, a T-180 super car, would have barley beaten the Mach 4, a much older kind of super car. A truly impressive machine that I wish, alongside the Mach 5, got more screen time.)

If you can get through the cheesiness and the cringy stuff, then this movie is a blast to watch. It has more character than 90% of the stuff that comes out now

It’s the cheesiness and cringe that actually makes it faithful to the original material tho. The Speed Racer anime is hilariously cheesy and cringe itself. So the dialogue in here doesn’t seem too off beat imo

3:01 I’m glad Speed eased off. The record keeps a piece of his brother alive (In the end of the movie he’s not gone, but, still)

They details in the movie we're top notch, the binoculars are with special increased lens to be able to see abnormal distances since the tracks were so big.

This movie was stylized to the point that watching it in any form that wasn't intended, such as this, is not enjoeyable. It changes the pacing completely.

BROOO I NEVER NOTICED, but when Speed look at the timer, for a brief moment you can see a tear!, that just show how much Speed wanted to keep Rex mark lap, this movie was in the wrong time of release

Shit, 60 fps makes everything have less impact, sad.

How?
@LacerdaIsAWeeb3 жыл бұрын
@@vsarachnos5414 things were shot and edited to be viewed in 27~30 fps, doubling that amount through IA doesn't take timing and editing in consideration, thus everything flows more, but with less timing and impact.

Also, it makes motion unnatural and unrealistic, it make it look like the car is slinding on soap lol
