It didn't turn out amazing but it is still really nice to see. This is probably my favourite film of all time and its really exciting seeing it in such a high frame rate

Yeah you really do get a perfect grasp on why he’s so passionate about what he loves. And the moment where he lets Rex keep his record in tact? Really says a lot about the bond they have as brothers if Speed loves him too much to break it.

There's actually a really good story about a guy that used to play Railsport with his father on the original Xbox. After his father passed away and he grew up, he found his old Xbox and decided to play the game again. The game has a ghost racer system and he saw his father's ghost racer on a track he could never beat his dad in. Since he was an adult now, he got a lot better and was actually passing him. But if he beat the record, his dad's ghost would go away, so he purposely slowed down on the final lap to keep his dad's memory alive.

That one tear that tracks down his face right before he lets off the gas is always that REAL kind of last look before you sacrifice yourself's feeling, but in a metaphoric sense since he's sacrificing his own chance at setting a course record legend to let the last living part of his long dead brother remain. Other's like me have a necklace, some people keep a weapon, others carry a picture, but for Speed, what he keeps to keep the last memory of his brother alive? Nothing but that number kept standing by letting off the gas pedal. For Speed Racer, slowing down is like dying to him, but in return, it's keeping a part of him alive he thought he lost long ago.

I was 8 yrs old when this movie came out and I feel that every actor played their part well and it was spot on from the classic animated series back in the 60s. I feel the reason it got so overlooked and slept on was because it was too advanced and ahead of it’s time, but I feel this movie is a hidden gem and I’m a big Speed Racer fan thanks to my Dad who also used to watch the cartoon when he was a kid.

I do have a gripe about 1 thing in this movie. The mach 6. Its a plot hole and i even noticed it as a child. The mach 6 wasn't canonically built yet. It was made for the final race. Yet its driven in this race and the Fuji race. How is speed even using the car? It was made to be a big deal for the final race but isn't even mentioned beforehand. The mach 6 is way too fast for it to be used in any of the races beforehand. Speed was given the keys for the mach 5 but where does the mach 6 come into all of this? It comes up in the beginning, he loses the Fuji race, he wins the backalley race, and apparently the mach 6 didn't exist beforehand and is being built to be a monster of a car to go on and win the final race effortlessly. The supercharged video from the movie states that mach 6 was built for the final race. Also mach 6 must've never truly existed before the final race since otherwise it wouldn't need to be built from scratch. Multiple side characters in the movie have their cars blow up but are still able to reappear with their car later on. So the mach 6 needing to be built from scratch makes no sense.
@solblackguy
@solblackguy Жыл бұрын
@@TheExiled112 they had a Mach 6 prototype that still wasn't stable yet. You see it causing a power outage in a deleted scene. The mach 5 that they used in the grand prix was loaded with gadgets so it probably wasn't racing legal anymore, most likely heavily damaged, or the inspector had to commandeer it to remove all the gadgets. They didn't have a car so they decided to build the Mach 6 at the last minute.
@TheExiled112
@TheExiled112 Жыл бұрын
@@solblackguy oh i didn't look at the deleted scenes. The mach 6 surprisingly doesn't have any plot importance. Nothing about improving it while hanging with royalton or how a independent racer use's such a car without sponsorships like the other racers. I would at least expect the damaged mach 6 from fuji to at least get repaired instead of building a new one from scratch. Which kinda makes me think that there's a plot hole with mach 6. If its being built from scratch, i would expect it to be done so because it wasn't meant to exist previously in the movie. Otherwise just repair and improve. Yeah the mach 5 definitely ain't race legal but i was kinda thinking that the mach 5 was originally supposed to be racers car for most of the movie since the mach 6 pops in outta nowhere with no context. Especially since at the beginning of the movie, the mach 5 had more relevance than the mach 6. We see rex giving racer the mach 5. So the mach 6 being there out of the gate seems odd.

1:30-1:39 that little scene and bit in the theme makes me tear up, it reminds me of the days where I’d race my brother, who’s younger than me and I’m extremely proud of, in Flatout and we’d just see how fast we could go, I think I’m the end we didn’t really want to beat each other and by the end of it our cars were completely wreaked beyond repair and we’d laugh so hard. These were good memories Also Speed keeping his brother’s memory alive by slowing down shows how much he really loved and respected him. He doesn’t listen to what other people say about him and will never let him be forgotten and his family is still proud of them both

@@vsarachnos5414 things were shot and edited to be viewed in 27~30 fps, doubling that amount through IA doesn't take timing and editing in consideration, thus everything flows more, but with less timing and impact.

This frame rate really does the film justice. there are certain things that need a high framerate to really get the most out of it, and I've always felt racing of any kind is one of the prime examples

Holy COW. Seeing this movie bumped up to 60FPS is NUTS. (Also, here’s something I wanted to point out. I think it isn’t highlighted enough just how robust the Mach 4 actually was. Even though speed let up the gas at the last second, the Mach 6 would have only beat the Mach 4 but merely a second or two if speed hadn’t slowed down. The Mach 6, a T-180 super car, would have barley beaten the Mach 4, a much older kind of super car. A truly impressive machine that I wish, alongside the Mach 5, got more screen time.)

Your average normie will think the higher frame rate automatically makes it look better, but tbh a lot of the cuts where cars are using their jump jacks and bouncing on and off the track really lose their touch with 60fps. I wouldn't say it's a disgrace to the original work but it's cool I guess. Good job nonetheless.

I agree, AI currently is more of a well grounded concept with many improvements still needed before we get a high quality product. Getting something to near perfection using AI requires alot of hands on tinkering of the original footage

The higher frame rate does make it look better but admittedly interpolation isn't perfect.

this movie is a legend, the first time i ever seen the speed the mach5 or 6 cutting the colorful lights didn't stop blowing my mind, my eyes and ears desirised even much more of that fascination. after ten years, i'm still fascinated and i know geral disapproval of the movie for the public even though it's the most exciting masterpiece i've ever seen, makes me sad.

if there was ever to be a 2nd speed racer movie i feel an interesting way to start it would be to have a racer beat the Racer X's lap record. Supposedly after speed wins the WRL and Royalton gets exposed there should be much less corruption in races and there should be much better drivers. I feel part of the reason why speed was so much better than everyone was because everybody else is used to winning rigged races so their skills would probably slacken. either that or they just weren't good enough. With him winning the WRL he should have much more competition and a good way to show that is to have a racer beat the Rex's lap record. The only person coming close to that being speed. It immediately shows just how good that racer is. Not only that but the last movie ended a bit bittersweetly with Rex believing he could never return and I dont think it should end like that. Rex should be allowed to return. He shouldn't have to force himself to suffeer and never be with his family because of one mistake. In this supposed movie speed will feel shaken by the fact that his brother will be forgotten since his record was taken by someone else And maybe throughout the movie speed kind of just has a downward spiral after losing the one thing he could remember Rex by. it is said that people only die when they're forgotten. So since Speed has been tricked into thinking Rex really is dead this would be an even heavier blow to him. But Rex isn't dead of course. someway this leads to Rex coming back at the end. Yeah i dont have all the details lol. Like maybe at the end when speed is in the final race against the racer who beat Rex's record Rex come s back in a dramatic way and gives speed the motivation he needs in typical anime fashion😭 I really like this idea but i have no idea how to stretch this out into movie format. all i have is a beginning and an end lol

It’s the cheesiness and cringe that actually makes it faithful to the original material tho. The Speed Racer anime is hilariously cheesy and cringe itself. So the dialogue in here doesn’t seem too off beat imo

I noticed recently that the later scene when Racer X and Speed race in this same track is a parallel to the part where he's racing his brother's ghost. Some parts look really simmilar. For example: Speed slows down at the finish line (just that later he does it to bump into him, not to let him win). What makes this even better is that at the end of that race, Racer X fools Speed by making him think that he died in a crash just like he did when he was still Rex. This is just *chef's kiss*

Think about it, Rex is using a mach 4 which is an older generation of pops's cars, and Speed is using a mach 6 a newer version of it, and Rex's ghost was still ahead of speed on the turns. Proves Rex is a goat.
