As usual, Jana, GREAT tips to improve my knitting. Love the sock tutorials especially. They have helped me take my knitting to the next level. Also, it is refreshing to see your "Farmer's Hands, as you call them!" Hello your vids are great. I went to urth yarns but I wanted to know how to order yarn from them. I couldn’t figure it out.

You order through your local yarn store, rather than from Urth yarns directly.

can you use the yarn in your project after you wash and block it.. what i do often with projects is unravel the swatch and use it between skeins, but i’ve never thought to wash it first lol 😆

I've often reclaimed yarn after it's been washed. You may want to steam it to get the kinks out first. Or wash it.

I wonder if there is any way to avoid the visible difference between knitting Ina row and in the round?

It's all about the knitting tension, so you'd just have to practice knitting back and forth so that your purl stitches have the same tension (gauge) as the knits.

Also...do you always cut the loose strands at the back of the speed swatch when you block?

I did not end up cutting the floats. I've left them long enough that they do not need to be cut. That way, in the unlikely event I need to use this yarn in a "yarn chicken" emergency, I can rip it out.

Jana, I found this video and the flat swatch video helpful. I don’t think you mentioned how the gauge changed/or didn’t once it was blocked. Any note in your journal to address this?

It depends a lot upon the individual knitter. My gauge may or may not change depending upon the yarn / needle combination. And yes I've saved both my swatches and noted my results in my notebook.

You used a lot of yarn in your swatch in order to measure the gauge flat. Then you advised to block it. Most yarn shops sell 50 or 100 gram balls which will make one pair of socks. I find this is not a generous amount and have little or none left over in the large size. After I have paid for the more expensive yarn I don’t want to use it in a gauge swatch and not be able to complete the socks. At $25 for 100 grams I don’t want to buy additional yarn to put into an un-useable gauge swatch. This is a problem for me.

I don't cut the yarn when I swatch as I undo the swatch and use the yarn in my project. Some do swatch and then keep that as a memory of the project if it's a gift or something.
