Hi Lee. I use the clear cashe option on my old Ipad. You can clear cashe by holding power in till you get the slidebar for closing and at that moment you hold the home bottom until you come back to thee main screen. This way you clear the cashe and you device is a bit faster. Alle apps that are open at the time will start over again. It helps from time to time. Try it out, I will not harm your device. Thanx for some great videos, and sorry for my poor English, but I'm Danish ;-)

I have to try this on the slow old iPads my church uses. They just run a few things like light control, thermostat control, and a browser but they are still rather slow. Thank you so much!!!

That's why I like your channel. You like myself are interested in compact, low cost/low energy, yet powerful devices which can works for years and how we get the most out of them.

I can not remember when I bought my iPad2 mini, and also still running. I still use it for (video)chat, podcasts, and an occasional web-search. Also thumbs up for the battery still healthy, but I was always very careful when charging (25-75% rule).

A lot of these tips can help with Android tablets too. Turning off notifications and permissions for a lot of apps will save battery and CPU. Disabling or uninstalling weird apps you don't use or want. It usually takes me an hour to setup any new device because of all the stuff I have to turn off, but it's well worth it, and all of my devices are quite snappy years later.

Turning off background app refresh and spotlight also help quite a ton! Another helpful video LeePSP!

Thanks, found that very helpful. I have 2 iPads (basically just kept my older one when I got an iPad 8Gen one) The older one is mainly in the kitchen & used for basic tasks ie. browsing the BBC News Site, listening to podcasts etc. With just16GBs was almost out of space - so these tips will help keep it 'working & useful' for a few more years :-)

Thought about doing this on my gen 1 iPad w/ 512kb, but it probably won't help. Luckily I can use it as $200 trade-in for a Tab S8.

Useful video as I have recently inherited an iPad mini 2 which I was going to set up for an elderly friend for some basic functions. While I realised it would have an older version of the O/S and wouldn't update any further, I didn't realise it simply wouldn't install certain apps (such as Gmail) because of the version it is running - which I haven't encountered with older Android devices (I assume the Google store just deploys the last compatible version of the app in question). Not having any real expertise in iPad devices is there anything that can be done to install a legacy version of this, or any app, or is this Apple doing what it does best by rendering a device obsolete when they think it's got too old?

I have Gmail on mine. If the latest version of an App isn’t supported you are usually prompted to download an older version. Alternatively login to gmail with the inbuilt mail app, or save the gmail webpage as an app when on the page hit the share icon and save to desktop. www.makeuseof.com/how-to-download-older-versions-of-apps-on-older-iphone/ Open the App Store on your iPhone and search for the app you want to download. Select the app name or icon to open the download page. Start downloading the app by hitting the Get button or tapping on the cloud symbol with the downward arrow. Wait for the App Store to display the message Download an older version of this app? Select the Download button to get the app.

@@leepspvideo Thanks, I appreciate you taking the time to reply. You're right and I could just pin a Web shortcut to the desktop, but expected the app to be the easier option, especially given the target user being quite elderly. The other tip looked like it might be a winner, but looks like Apple may have closed down that option. In the app store I searched for the Gmail app and selected it as instructed. But it now it just displays a banner stating that it "Requires iOS 14.0 or later." and any attempts to "get" the app result in a pop-up message displaying the same along with an extra bit of text stating that "you must update to iOS 14.0 in order to use this application." - which, of course, I can't.

@@leepspvideo In the end I found an app called "Email app for Gmail" which could be installed and looks decent enough. Thanks again.
@leepspvideo2 жыл бұрын
@@philmordecai I think I read that if you download the gmail app on a newer iPhone or iPad using the same account it may show on the older device as available.
@mr.techie85652 жыл бұрын
@@leepspvideo This is correct. It (usually) only works if you've downloaded it before with the same account. You may have to go to the purchased section of the app store.
