It is very hard to find good tutorials about Uv mapping for c4d, I had huge problems when I tried to import whole interior scenes into unreal engine in the past, there was never a need before for me to care about uv edits, but in some programs it is very important, otherwise u will have alot of problems with the materials. Thanks for that high quality tutorial!

Thanks for taking the time to share your UV workflow. Gonna be a huge time saver.

Yes I hope so! It works for most cases and make the UV-mapping a littlebit less irritating :)

Thanks. Very good tutorial. Do you have custom layout?
@jhalanddesign4 жыл бұрын
thanks a lot :) yes usually I move thing around, like move the material penal to the right so it sits left to the object menu and PSR sits below the attributes menu. So I get all those out of the way and can have more of a timeline without cluttering the screen to much. And I have the UV thing ready to use all the time as I do in the video :)
@kraphik3d4 жыл бұрын
@@jhalanddesign Cool. It would be easier for beginners to see default UV layout than customised. Anyway good work ;-)
@jhalanddesign4 жыл бұрын
@@kraphik3d Who says I make tutorials for beginners? I only try to explain concepts I come across in my own way. And using a custom layout speeds up your process and now you know what to look for

Amazing tecknick my friend for uv mapping its to easy not need to switch in enother program. If you make more video like that it will be amazing. And if you want to make video for c4d for painting for example how to paint refrection in a specific part of tthe mess and how to paint dirt and something like that like substance painter. There is no much in youtube to tell how to paint in c4d like substance painter. thanks
@jhalanddesign5 жыл бұрын
Yes. I try to do as much as possible without high effort. But it takes time to find the workflow. I will share more stuff as soon as I have a new home office. Have no idea when it will be done.... I haven’t used substance painter. I mostly do my custom textures in photoshop, even though I know it’s a great program for painting. Hope you find the tut you need out there :)

May be I missed something but what is the point of hitting apply so many times?
@jhalanddesign5 жыл бұрын
For every time you hit apply it tries to adjust it a little bit more. So if it not straighten the first time, try apply again to see if it solves it.

I can't find UVM Tag, and therefor neither set from projection. I can see it adds a chessboard besides the object and my object have that aswell. But when i go into UV Manager i can't select any projections methods as you do 5:49 . Please help, and thanks! :)
@jhalanddesign7 жыл бұрын
do you use r17 or older? The UVW tag in the tags-menu is something that came with r18. But a work around is add a material, set it to something else then UVW, like cubic or sphere projection, and right click on the tag and "Generate UVW Coordinated". For the UV manager projection to work you have to select polygons and also open the UVW tag in the Texture View. Hope this helps! :)

Wow nice! I was struggling with the confusing uv edit mode, and the wizard, your video will save me a lot of time. Also, maybe i missed something but when are you using the uv polygon edit tool with this technique?
@jhalanddesign5 жыл бұрын
you use the polygon edit tool when you want to move something on the uv in the texture window. But I can't remember if I used this in the tutorial. I were suppose to make an update that shows the concepts ever quicker but haven't had time and possibility to setup my audio gear.

I don't have the texture tab at the bottom where you see the ( Attributes and Layers tabs), how do you enable it cant find it?
@jhalanddesign7 жыл бұрын
Hi, if you look through the whole video you should know that, if you skip you miss it. You find the texture tab under window/bodypaint/new texture view. drag the small dots in a square over attributes manager and then it's added

Hi Jørgen, Really helpful tutorial. But i have a small problem - how can i combine all those UV from different parts of model in the only ONE UV, to export it to PS as a one file? Very thanks for the tips!
@jhalanddesign7 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Every part need to be on the same UV island (the UV texture frame). The fastest way is to select everything and go into the UV Manager and hit realign. Then everything is stacked with a spacing of 2 %. If this breaks you parts you have to do some manual work, by switching to UV polygon mode (the button I add to the toolbar) and resize with scale tool , and move around with move tool. UV in C4D is far from perfect. That's why I made this video, to show that it's possible to do it a bit faster
@rooster45977 жыл бұрын
Hi, Great thanks for that tip. Making uv in C4D is like a pain in the a .... For those interested - you need to make sure that the object mash does not overlap before you make them singel object. Waiting for more tuts, maybe something about hard surface modeling?

I think I'm the only one that enjoys UV mapping?
@jhalanddesign6 жыл бұрын
Chosen Idea haha. Probably. I don’t mind it anymore and have some new tricks I want to share on the subject. To get the best results from your materials it’s essential. Makes the results so much better.
@jamieyyoo76086 жыл бұрын
you said you cut here you cut there but you dont tell why doing so. which is sad for me
@jhalanddesign6 жыл бұрын
hehe, ok, yes, I could maybe be a bit clearer. Cuts are used to break the object into different parts in UV-mapping. The algorithm isn't able to understand the shape on it's own, and here is where you come in and help it understand the shape better buy cutting it up. Think of it as a sweater top you need to sow together with it's front, back and arms. You do the same thing with UV-mapping, and but cutting the object and putting the seams were it's most hidden, but still possible to fold in to recognizable flat shapes. The algorithm is not perfect, and that's why I try different cuts to see if it that helps. Yes, this tutorial is not an introduction to UV-mapping, it is building on that you already obtained that knowledge but need tips to speed up your workflow. But as always I can't know how much knowledge the different video viewer got on the subject, so thanks for asking.
