Engine 74-3 responds to reported vehicle fire

Delmar Engine 74-3 responds to a reported vehicle fire. The call was dispatched by Delaware but was found to be on the Maryland side of the road. Engine 74-3 arrived to find a BMW 525 will involved with fire. Gumboro Fire Dept Engine 79-1 also responded to assist.

Station 74 serves the town of Delmar which is in the State of Maryland and Delaware they do an outstanding job and are there when you need them good group of men and women in that Department

Great job knocking that down. I have tremendous respect for what you do and want you to be safe. Please wear your SCBA around vehicle smoke (or any smoke). As a WC nurse, an insurance investigator only has to see you walk out of one cloud of smoke without protection to deny your lung injury claim. It makes for a long uphill battle to get compensated for real injury.

In the 1980's we frequently went inside the vehicle and if it was intact, we'd pull the hood latch to open the hood. Most of the time it worked fine. Seems today in every car fire video they just go at it with the Halligan Bar first? Curious?

Howard C. Still the same today. "Try before you pry". We try to open them manually first, if that fails it's halligan time.

No, he wants them to hurry up and put the fire out, so they can tow the car and scrap it because it's destroyed! There was no saving that car no matter HOW fast they worked!
