1706 , 1702 and 1709 were my favorites. Have a lot of flight time on those three and others. Those three were with me at various times in Clearwater, then Barbers and again in Sacto.

@@BillSilverEagle I have flown on the 1502 in Clearwater. I think all of those were in service when I was, I know for sure the 1502 and the double nuts. I primarily flew on the 17xx's, J's were entering service @7 years before I retired. Some would arrive to a base I was at and I could go for a fun flight with them,.....nah. H model Best model.

I have 25 years flying USCG C-130 B models. Have been all over the world in them. Been to almost every LORAN station in the world. Once we had a LORAN flight to a CIA Base in the Golden Triangle of Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia. The USAF ground support people were certain we had to be CIA because what could a Coast Guard C-130 possibly be doing in the Golden Triangle with all our LORAN monitoring antennas. This acft is from CGAS Sacramento (SACRAMENTO is shown below the number 1702). CGAS Sacramento is located on the former McClellan Air Force Base, which existed as a military base from 1939 to 2000. I was a member of the 12 man crew that established the Coast Guard at McClellan AFB in 1977 when we were forced to move our C-130's and HU16E acft from SFO (SF Intl Airport) to Sacramento. They are departing from LAX. In my days we would use Burbank airport and park on the Lockheed portion of Burbank airport. Retired USCG CWO.

I've seen a C-130 Very similar to the USCG C-130, It's called the LC-130. The differences are: The tail paint is different, It uses Rockets powered takeoff. ONLY in snow covered areas. The tail has an AM🇺🇸RICAN Flag instead of the former Symbol. It has skis on the wheels for snow taxiing,

Just in case anyone is wondering, the CG is a smaller branch that doesn't have the same resources to maintain a lot of their own bases. In this case, LAX works for them as a base of operations.

Fire drops - Search and Rescue and can still fly on one engine - used by NASA for remote sensing - sensing fire activity down in South American for infrared sensing fire activity due to cultivation of fields because they use burning as a way to cultivate their crops which adds to the environmental pollution - C-130 Sophie NASA Remote Sensing Aircraft used for major fires and fire management activity to determine the intensity and direction of wild land fires

@wrightflyer78556 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Each aircraft is optimized for different missions. And there is no other large aircraft in the world like a 130 for unimproved short field operations under adverse conditions. Notice that all C-130 replacements are upgraded 130s. I certainly miss those hours flying around Thailand in them during the Nam war.

OceanBlue USCG doesn't have USAF money and if they did what would they do with them? Drops at 300 knots?
@herc13053 жыл бұрын
For logistics flight, no doubt. We use C130s for logistics, search and rescue, Law enforcement, migrant patrol, air drops of rescue gear/rafts out the ramp & door, humanitarian aide into fields that can't take the weight of a C17 even though it can land there. We fly lots of searches at 2000 and below at a slow speed because we are trying to see things in the water. Not to mention cost per flight hour. I like the C17, but they do not do everything a C130 can do.
