The fact you have less than 100 thousand subs should be a crime. I've been trying to get into blender sculpting for four years now and no tutorials have ever really helped me get as close as you did with this single video. It was the second head ever that i did in blender, and the very first one that actually looked halfly human. You are an absolute beast for making these videos so informative and easy to grasp. Thank you very much, from a begginer.

I have watched almost all the best gurus on blender sculpting tutorials but I have yet to do it myself. Everyone OVERWHELMED me especially on not just learning but most of all , REMEMBERING each tweak with every tool. I am simply amazed at how EASY sculpting on blender had to be ... following your style and techniques ... thanks a load.... after almost 5 years of TRYING ... I have finally learned the right way... the simpliest way.

Pro tip: Go to Edit > Preferences > Keymap and change "Spacebar Action" to "Tools". That way you can use just "Spacebar + " instead of "Shift + Spacebar + " for example "Spacebar + 1" for "Draw Sharp", "Spacebar + 2" for "Clay Strips" etc. The only thing that is going to be affected by this change is that now you will have to use "Shift + Spacebar" for Play/Pause. And if you had your "Spacebar Action" be "Search" for some reason, that is redundant because shortcut for search menu is "F3" anyways regardless of your "Spacebar Action" choice. Another thing, you can check while in "Keymap" preferences is "Tab for Pie Menu" in which case "Tab" would bring up pie menu for changing modes (object mode, edit mode, sculpting mode, etc.) rather tan just toggling between object and edit modes which is default. I hope this is helpful.

You can also assign the lower button of the pen to be middle-click instead of right-click in the pen tablet driver settings. This makes the "Emulate 3-Button Mouse" setting unnecessary and brings the experience a lot closer to how ZBrush works. The Wacom driver (and probably others as well) lets you do this per application, so there is no need to mess up your workflow in ZBrush to improve the workflow in Blender.

Why would you want to constantly hold the pen button in order to pan? Why check off the emulate 3-button when it works?
@ak8093
@ak8093 2 жыл бұрын
@@WieldMyWord At the end of the day it is just personal preference, you use what feels most comfortable for you. If you have used the pen button for navigation in ZBrush for years, being able to use it in a very similar fashion in Blender will certainly make the transition easier (that is what I suggested). If you used pan drag navigation in ZBrush (like Nikolay did I assume), the way he proposes may be more suitable. The Alt key is generally used to snap to fixed angles while rotating (similar to Shift in ZBrush). The 3-button emulation effectively disables this function that I happen to like, so that is one downside to me.

I've been trying to get into 3d sculpting for YEARS, maybe over a decade at this point and THIS is the tutorial that unlocked everything for me. Each beginning tutorial out there for 3d scuplting/blender either says "you can't really sculpt in Blender because Zbrush is so much better", which is so unhelpful, because as you said, they are not really comparable programs. Zbrush is a beast and does have a million other tools for sculpting and I'm sure it's a million times better, but it's not like Blender is without that capacity to start - and all I needed was that: a starting point. Meanwhile, every other Blender program out there starts off with 5 hours of extremely basic 3d modelling and interface familiarity -- which is important sure! But I've been an artist for decades now and I am familiar with creative software and have messed around with Blender enough to understand some of the basic functions. The slog of creating primitive models (often not even sculpts!!) and going through the functions that I don't really care for at the beginning (why introduce me to materials in the first 10 minutes?) when I really just want a digital analog for clay is so defeating. Anyways, this is a very long comment to say: THANK YOU. In the first literal 10 minutes of your video, you have enabled me to do exactly what I have been trying to achieve in 3d modelling in the past decade and have been stopped by inane walls of useless classes and information. I'm excited to continue my first actual functional sculpt with your walkthrough of controls and tools and I'm bookmarking the courses you linked as well!

I'd also recommend ticking the "invert zoom direction" for the mouse so it work the same way it does in zbrush. There is also a setting for disabling auto perspective when rotating in orthographic view, so it doesn't switch to perspective each time you rotate

Great tutorial. Finally someone who takes care of anatomy and name it :). The idea of starting with a (maybe even modeled) base mesh and working with deforming the base and remeshing is very underestimated in most of the videos about sculpting too. Sure we can make a squid by using the snake-hook but modeling it from a sphere and some cylinders and deforming and remeshing it afterwards brings much better organized meshes (which is important for animating them BTW) Maybe it would be a good idea to turn on the wire-frame to make this better topology visible. For hair there are particle systems in Blender - this could be a better choice than a grease pencil ;) if you need something less computing power consuming use hair-cards. Great and thanks again :))
