I avoided Blender for years cause I was scared about all the things to learn. I've tried so many tutorials and none of them could get me into it. Then I've found your video. You are crazy talented with teaching. Everything is clear, pertinent, easy to get and at the end of this evening I sculpted my very first head. I am impressed, really. Definitely subscribed and so grateful that this time KZbin advised me the right video.

I might be late to the party here, but this is probably the best beginner tutorial on sculpting I've seen. The simple fact that this tutorial focuses on the technical side of sculpting and actually shows the tools that are neccessary to get started is incredibly helpful. For some reason, so many tutorials on sculpting only tell us what we're supposed to be doing, without actually telling us how to do it (the old "draw the rest of the owl" problem). Now that you've shown the tools to get started, I can finally follow the tutorials that focus on the artistic process behind sculpting and learn that. Great tutorial to get started!

As someone on the verge of throwing the computer out of the window by being unable to figure out Blender sculpting properly, thank you so much!! Specially as I tend to go "ugh" with 30+ minute videos and skip a lot, since many people aren't able to find a good pace for their tutorials, not repeating themselves a lot, but giving information at an understandable speed. I didn't really feel the need to move forward on the explanations, so that's a great sign!

Notes to future self: - Shift+C puts cursor back to center (3:27) - Shift+A brings up the add mesh menu (3:31) - Radius changes brush size, Strength changes brush intensity. - Brush settings by default appear both above the viewport and on the right-side menu, and allow you to change the brush's various values. - Can drag out the left-side brush toolbar to expand it, allows for seeing the brush name. - M1 to add, CTRL+M1 to subtract - Draw brush & clay strip (+autosmooth 0.1 or softness) brush seem to both be useful standard brushes. - Inflate Brush seems fairly similar to Blob, maybe might be more subtle? - Blob Brush is fairly self-explanatory, adds/subtracts blobs of volume. Seems like it could be good for defining rounder shapes. Not entirely sure what the difference is between this and Inflate. - Crease Brush seems to be good for creases (obviously) as well as sharper additions/subtractions than the draw brush - Scrape Brush can be used for defining planes of the face or other distinct planes - Grab Brush seems to be super versatile, literally just 3d liquefy. - Snake Hook pulls out thin strands, seems super useful in specific scenarios. - Pose Brush is used to adjust parts of a sculpt, seems useful for character sculpting. Jank if used in places it shouldn't be used in. - Smooth Brush is self-explanatory. - Top-right dropdown can be used to change "MatCaps", affecting how an object is rendered. Ryan recommends searching out additional tutorials on importing/creating new MatCaps. - Mask Brush can stop other brushes from affecting a defined area. Can be inverted by using CTRL+i/I, allowing extrusion. ALT+M removes the mask. - Dyntopo & Remesh are both used as ways to provide more mesh to edit when you're running out. Remesh is manual while Dyntopo is automatic, but both have their own benefits. - Destruction modifier can be used to downscale the size of models while conserving visual detail. - Scaling a shape will lead to the sculpting being scaled as well. This can be fixed by applying the scaling via CTRL+A -> Apply -> Scale. Overall, fairly useful tutorial.

This video was so helpful! It cleared up a lot of things that weren't really addressed in any of the other sculpting tutorials I watched. Thank you for explaining everything so patiently! The way you took your time, showed your setup and gave a bunch of extra tips at the end made it feel like one of my friends was explaining it to me :))

This is an awesome tutorial, very well paced, easy to follow directions, very detailed but not overwhelming. He showed so much info butte it was not tiring at all. I liked how he showed the key points, the most important things to remember, without worrying about all the non-essential things which one can discover on their own once they get the ball rolling. nd this is just exactly what this tutorial does.. get rid of the fat and gets right to the meat! Great tutorial.. therefore I subscribed! :))

This tutorial was exactlyyyy what I needed for the project I'm working on so thank you for this amazing and absolutely helpful tutorial! Just a question though, if I were to model a full character body, would I be able to decimate, rig, and then use the character for animation?
@RyanKingArt
@RyanKingArt 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes, you could do that, although I would recommend retopologizing the object after you sculpt it. Then you can do the texturing, rigging and then animate it. proper retopology will make the object move and rotate better when its being rigged and animated.

0:50 Anyone reading this - Don't let this dissuade you from sculpting! I've never used a pen or wacom tablet, but it just takes a little time to use the mouse. It's similar to asking someone what kind of pen or paintbrush they use. Its all about making the right strokes and less about what utensil makes those strokes. You can also use the stabilize stroke option to make the stroke lag behind a little to give you more even, flowing forms.

when Im done with my model, is there a way to (select) outline the eyes on my model so I can add emission later on them only and not the whole mesh, like to only manually select the area and disassociate it from the rest of the model so I could apply texture on it only
@RyanKingArt
@RyanKingArt 4 жыл бұрын
Yes you can do that. First add a basic material to the model. Then, Tab into edit mode and select the area that you want to add the new material to. Then add a new material in the material slot, and press New, to add a new material. Then press the assign button in edit mode. The selected area will then have the material that was selected. Hope this helps.
