Hell yes! Good run! Reminded me of discovering a few years ago that my brother had this game and I played it every night for like a week or two until I could beat in about 14-15 like you. Same trouble with the bubbles as you had too, and I never switched away from flame except in level two. Contra 3 alien wars though....... Shit that was my jam

Snes can have more sprites at once then nes its more powerful hardware but if the sprites are using 16 bit color thats a lot more demanding then 8 bit nes.

No. No Super Contra is not a "very different game". The stages are laid out almost exactly the same. If you're good at one you'll be good at the other. The arcade handles slightly differently.. more bullet angles, but other than that it is the same game. You could run the games side by side just fine.
