Thanks for the review. Bought my 4’s off the back of it. Here’s my input, for what it’s worth: Size up, forget about the new width settings, I’m a U.K. 10 and definitely needed an 11 Watch the tongue. Especially if you wear tiny ‘trainer socks’ you might be uncomfortable with the end of the tongue digging into your ankle crease. Just make sure they are laying right when you lace the up Despite being very comfortable, they are a little hard under the balls of your feet, especially on road sections,so you might want to consider inner soles. The vibram soles make a lot of road noise, sounds like you slapping the ground. People will hear you coming! But don’t let these observations put you off. Having once suffered months of problems caused by Achilles’ tendon problems due to stiffer shoes and drops (mudclaws), these shoes are bloody fantastic. You perhaps wouldn’t want to run a road marathon in them, unless you wanted to think the crowds were clapping every step. But I live in the Dales and it’s perfect for this terrain. Mud, grass, farm tracks, stones etc. Recommended

Thanks for the feedback Richard it's really appreciated 👍 I did mention they size up small in the review so it's good to go up in size 😊 I never heard anyone say that a Speedgoat is a bit hard underfoot but running shoes are personal and we all feel them differently 😳 When it comes to the Vibram outsole you're right it does make a bit of noise on the road but to be fair it is a trail running shoe and the rubber is designed to be super grippy on the trails which it definitely is! 👍 I'm glad you're getting on with the shoe though, its a pretty good allrounder that's for sure. Thanks for watching the channel and happy, injury free running 🏃😊

No worries Richard 👍 I did say to size up in the review! The Speedgoat has always sized up small 👍 You're right about the Vibram mega grip, it can be a bit noisy on some surfaces! To be fair It is a trail shoe with a super grippy outsole and that's why it makes a bit of noise 😊 A part from the little issues I'm glad you're enjoying the shoe and it's helped with a few niggles 👍 Thanks for watching the channel 🙏

I have the Speedgoat 3 despite problems with the Speedgoat 2, back in November I bought a new pair of Speedgoat 3 because I was so impressed with them and judging by the 2s thought I didn’t have long until I killed them but bloody hell 6 months later they are only now showing signs of deterioration after 1000miles they split on the instep so I gorilla glued them and they are still going and the New Speedgoat 3s I bought are still in the box 😲 maybe I should think about breaking them in - don’t want the 4 now, but can’t get anymore 3s to stock up on 😩 great review man

Thank you for the detailed review, Loyd! The concept of running for adventure fits pretty much to my own concept of running, thanks for the content! I have a narrow foot as well and I found your comment about Speedgoat 3 being slightly narrower quite useful for me. I'm a fan of Hoka (and well-cushioned shoes in general), but it is not really easy to find a Speadgoat 3 at the end of 2020 here in Russia. Can you advise any other models fitting good a narrow foot? Thanks in advance
@Run4Adventure4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Renat 👍 Really glad you enjoyed the review and found it helpful! 😊 Yeap I'm sure it's pretty hard to find any Speedgoat 3's now the 4's have been out for a while. The Speedgoat 4 still isn't a wide shoe so it would be worth trying on if you can. As would the Torrent 2 and the Challenger ATR, neither are wide it just depends how narrow your foot is? Salomon tend to work well with a narrower foot shape obviously their shoes won't be as soft as a Hoka! Maybe take a look at the Sense Ride 3 or the Wildcross if you want more depth of grip on the outsole. I'd also check out the Saucony Peregrine 10, I'm a big fan of this shoe, it's very different from a Hoka but it's a great trail shoe. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏

Great review! I just bought the Speedgoat 4 about a week ago. Until now i wasn't able to really test them yet, as i don't have many trails here (i bought them for a vacation to Madeira in a few weeks, but i will of course run them in first). When fitting them in the store, i also needed to get them one size bigger than for instance the Hoka Rincons that i use (and love) for road running. I love the orange color model, however eventually went for the grey model..

Hi Caroline Thanks for watching the channel 👍🏻 The Speedgoat 3 is quite narrow on fit. If the shoe feels good on then I’m sure you’re ok with the fit. Would you say you’ve got a wide foot? Damn, I'm kinda scared that I will not like it because of lower collar. I had problems with shoes that have lower heel collars. I was happy to hear they made shoe tiny bit wider than SG3 but still. I think I will wait for Salomon Sense ride 3 cause they apparently buffed it up so it might be more towards the shoe I want. Till then SG3 will do but I was so hyped up for 4. BTW widnes of midfoot apparently comes from thinner tounge.
@Run4Adventure4 жыл бұрын
I personally felt the SG4 didn’t hold me in the heel as well as the SG3 😀 It’s feeling a bit better now because I’m a bit more use to the fit 😀 I’ve tried the new Sense Ride 3 on and they have beefed it up a bit but I’d say its still quite a bit firmer than the Speedgoat 😀 Thanks for watching the channel and don’t forget to subscribe 👍🏻😉

Hello, great review again. I've been eyeing up the Speedgoat for a while wondering whether to go for it or not, as I'm not sure i'd like the massive caushioning or not... but then if my age and legs allow me to follow my plan to do longer trail events perhaps i'd start to like a bit of caushioning.. that said.. what do you feel about the difference between the normal shoe and the gortex version, is the attempt of "waterproofing" worth the extra £10 or so.. I've always normally just allowed my feet to get wet, and they usually dry out quite quickly.. but does the gortex version really stop your feet from getting wet? and when they; im sure ineevitbly do get wet, does it stop them drying out? Cheers.
@Run4Adventure4 жыл бұрын
When it comes to cushioning it's so personal! I've run 1000's of miles in the Speedgoats and for long stuff, 50 miles or above I find it a very comfortable shoe 😊 It definitely takes some time to get use to them and all the cushioning and I'd recommend starting on flat trail before you run any technical trails just incase 👍 As far as Gortex trail shoes, I personally wouldn't bother. A shoe can't be waterproof because it's got a big hole in the top where your foot goes in! 😂 Like you said once water is in the shoe it can't get out so I'd go for the none Gortex version. Hope this helps and thanks for the comment 🙏

Loved my Speedgoat 2s, so I bought a pair of Speedgoat 4s... and they were terrible. Painfully uncomfortable. I had to check to make sure my feet weren't sunburnt or something, because the tops of my feet became uncomfortable, and I didn't want to believe it was the Speedgoats. Went online, and checked to see what had changed, and of course found out that a lot of the top comfort was replaced... so I sent them back the same day. Found a pair of Speedgoat 3s. Most people had the same issues with the comfort of the 4s, and recommended I find a 3, which is what they stuck with. Hopefully they'll learn from the mistake of the 4 and go back to the comfort of the 2 and 3. Love the company, just didn't like the changes that came with the 4.

Hi Grant I've just filmed the review for the new Torrent 2's and it's a really good shoe, definitely worth a look👌 Also I'd take a look at the Peregrine 10 from Saucony. It's a great allrounder and it would run really well on Dartmoor. Further question. With the SG4, you did not feel the pebbles/unevenness of the trail on your feet? I had the Peregrine 8 previously and my feet felt pain/sore as a result of not having the rock plate.
@Run4Adventure4 жыл бұрын
You really don’t feel any rocks through the midsole of the Speedgoat 4! Obviously you do loose a bit of ground feel. Just to let you know the new Peregrine 10 has a rock plate now and we’ll be reviewing the shoe in a few days 😀

Darn! I think I may bought the wrong size if they run short 😫

I would normally run in a uk9.5 and I’ve always been a uk10 in a Speedgoat but see how you get on 😀 Thanks for watching the channel 👍🏻

How did the fit end up for you? I'm normally a 12 but fit 11.5 in Clifton 6/7. I just ordered the SG4 at 11.5 because I found a great deal. Hopefully not going with a 12 won't be disastrous.

@@cazman41 how was it?
@cazman413 жыл бұрын
@@Fozzee.1970 It's good. 11.5 had enough length for me. To be honest the fit feels very much same as my SG3 in a 12. The 4 just feels better and the little extra width makes a difference in overall comfort.

I can buy the speedgoat 3 on sale now for $100, anyone that would recommend it?

If you can get the 3's for $100 go for it! It's a great shoe 👍 Thanks for watching 🙏

Great video. Love these shoes. This is my first pair of Hokas and they’ve allowed me to run further and a bit fast with the extra cushion and traction. I never tried the 3s but I have a medium wide forefoot so these are perfect. I use them for dirt roads and narrow granite trails in the nearby mountains. I tried on a few other pairs of Hokas. Some were too narrow and I wanted something durable for the rough rocks out here. Also am a huge fan of vibram soles on boots so thought this would be good and it is.

Awesome Joel! 👍 The SG's are great shoes that's for sure. I'm glad you've found a pair of trail shoes that work for you 😊 Yep the Vibram out sole is brilliant I'm a big fan 👍 Thanks for watching the channel and thanks for the sub 🙏

Weird that you notice the difference in the width but Ginger Runner didn’t. Maybe he has a wider foot than you? However, you both seem to prefer the 3. Top review, thanks.

Glad you enjoyed it Ian and thanks for watching 👍🏻 I definitely don’t have a wide foot, especially at the mid foot. I haven’t seen Ginger Runners feet but he does always go on about having wide feet! 😂

Sorry , dude. I like Ginger Runner too and watch his videos, but I have to mention that his reviews are not accurate at all. I bought some shoes because I was based on his description and ...dude... I am already convinced that Ginger’s reviews, even though they are funny, they are far away from the reality. But when Run4Adventure speaks , I know that this is a real reviewer and obviously a great runner.

@@ErnieOne I agree. On Tuesday I brought some La Sportiva Lycans based on Ginger runner saying they fit true to size. I am a UK 9 and and I would say my feet are not really wide. The Lycans came yesterday and once I had shoe horned my foot into them I discovered if I tried to go anywhere in them it would cripple me. Needless to say they went back today and I have ordered the SG4, will arrive tomorrow. I hope I have sized them right. My Clifton 6 road shoes are a 9, so based on this review I have gone for a 9.5 in the SG4

@@Run4Adventure Hi, just a query, I am a size 9 UK, my clifton 6 road shoes are a 9 and feel excellent but I have just ordered the SG4 in a 9.5, in your opinion have I ordered the size correctly? Great review by the way.
@Run4Adventure4 жыл бұрын
@@My20vt That should be fine Scott I find the Speedgoats size up a little smaller. I'm normally a uk9.5 in most shoes but I've always run the Speedgoats in a 10uk 👍 Really glad you enjoyed the review and thanks for watching 🙏

Why are you pronouncing it "Hocker"??? It's Ho-ka, you know, exactly like it's spelt. It's so annoying.
