Every video I have witnessed with your dissection blows me away. All the machine work on only one part per say (transmission) and this is but a grain of sand on the beach of millions of vehicles. No mincing words on function. Maybe when your youtube rich you can snag another mattress. 🤭 As others have stated, great job! I like..."always a good day when speedkar uploads". So true.

As an engineer I am also mesmerized by the manufacturing that goes into making these, and to only think on the large scale as to how many of these are out there!

That "straight cut gear" is actually a sprocket. Chain + sprocket makes a bit less noise then a pair of straight cut gears. Thanks for your content. I learn a lot.
@speedkar99Күн бұрын
Yeah but most transmissions use helical cut gears which are quieter than straight
@kestlovs3 сағат бұрын
@@speedkar99 yes, helical are are quieter then straight. My point was that part with straight teeth is not a gear, it will work in pair with chain and it will not generate the same amount of noise as a pair of straight cut gearwheels. Chains are fairly noisy, though, especially in higher revs. I guess helical gears are quieter then chain.

Interesting how small lower cost components (such as plastic seals or plastic chain guides/tensioners) frequently cause large assemblies (engines/transmissions) to fail. If a vehicle is too reliable it will screw up planned obsolescence and ruin the economy. Always a joy to watch!

Thanks, and yes I agree, it's the small things that can condemn a vehicle

Perfect upload! Got one of these suckers in my 2011 fusion.. 160k miles on that sucker so far and possibly factory fluids.. 1 to second gear is lazy and is noticeably worse in cold weather. 2nd to third is also lazy but not as bad.
When I had a 2013 Focus (only car I've ever hated due to the DCT 'box), I always wondered how hard it would be to swap in an automatic from an Escape. Or maybe I just wanted to escape. Anyway, I hope that car has been turned into paperclips and soda cans by now.

I'm always curious where you get all of these transmissions and engines from. Do you just buy them at junk yards to tear them down for the channel or do you buy whole cars for parts?

Both the Ford and the GM versions have high failure rates. The Chevrolet Cruze for example had a high failure rate for transmission failures and the engines failing as well. On the Ford side, the Ford Escapes were the highest failure rate for that transmission. The Ford Fusion also have that problem as well. The AWD ones have higher failure rate than the FWD because the PTU failed more often and can cause destruction to the entire transmission like cracked transmission cases. If a transmission is cracked, it’s not rebuildable. It can be used as a core to rebuild another transmission but chances are that there are very little good parts in the transmission.

I've heard the escapes are the worse (probably because it's heavier) and the newer 6F55's in the explorers were bad too

@@toby2581 I did two drain and fills and a half bottle of Lucas stop slip as it would lightly flare on 2-3-4, and it would also feel insane shifting when pressing the gas very lightly going on the 1-2 shift, I also recommend resting the shifting tables using forscan when performing the drain and fill too.
@speedkar999 күн бұрын
Did it help? I think once it's slipping there's not much you can do to return it
@giovanni2339 күн бұрын
@ it’s not like actual burnt band/clutch slipping slipping, it’s a very very light and subtle flare between gears like imperceptible unless you were watching the tach as it shifted, it’s fords first 6 speed auto and it was also the first to use Mercon LV instead of V too so that also adds to the harshness, it’s really just a meh 6 speed and feels pretty similar to early 62TE’s, I just added the Lucas because this is like the 9th ford (by choice shockingly!) I’ve had and I’m too familiar with how they operate already, but I scheduled a TCM update with the local ford dealership and I will report back if you or anyone cares, but by the first drain and fill and a TCM reset no Lucas the stumbling between 1-2 under light throttle instantly disappeared and the light flaring got better (but would still do it after heavy WOT pulls or sitting in bumper to bumper traffic), then about a week later I did another drain and full and a half bottle of stop slip and another no TCM reset and after about 200~ miles the flare slowly worked its way out and it shifts totally normally, now it just feels like a mushy 6 speed :( hopefully the TCM update will correct that, fingers crossed.
