Really cool video, man. However, I'd personally just replace the radio instead of replacing the LEDs on the factory unit. My 2005 civic had a crappy radio and has crappy lights for the dash, HVAC and gear selector, so I'm replacing them with LEDs (currently waiting for them to arrive). For the radio, I got the Sony MEX5100N BT (or something like that), which has RGB Lighting. not only does it look good, but you get extra features. Still, I guess if you're satisfied with the factory radio, this is a totally legitimate solution (and cheaper, too). Good job.

Danté Smith I was doing this blindly too, didn't really have any DIY guides out there. Hardest thing was finding out what LED replacement to use. Which one did you use?
@wilescoful

I used 3528 LED strip lighting for everything. The radio was't that bad because each light does its own job. For for my air control I had to make walls so that the red didn't mix with the blue. Same for the dashboard, I want the numbers and arrows different collars. Cause a all red dash board looks lame.
@speedkar99
@speedkar99 9 жыл бұрын
So you put in strip lighting behind the face of the buttons? Does it light up evenly? How did it clear the buttons? As you saw in my video, I simply replaced all the LEDs so the light is distributed properly and I didn't have to deal with wiring.
@wilescoful
@wilescoful 9 жыл бұрын
The radio was simple, I just replaced the LED's the console was a little hared. Trying to keep the light even, and keep it from mixing. the dashboard was the worst, I wanted the arrows red with a blue background then reversed for the small gauges. so that was hard. but i got it and it looks great. when i finish my car i'll upload a video and share it with you. I'd love to get your feedback
@speedkar99

Sounds interesting, I'd like to see how it turned out. As for the gauges you'd better be off with an ES300 cluster swap: kzbin.info/www/bejne/onyQfmycq7h6mJI

I've just been trying to do an old 80`s Alpine radio cassette with a failed (3x4mm peanut incandescent) LCD display bulb, I used a T5 B8.5D with 5050 LED & removed it from the holder, but its not working. I did reverse it, it's not polarity, I'm wondering if the circuit board is less than 12v (I kept the resistor on). You cant remove the front panel as its soldered very tightly to the main board (I don't want to be unsoldering 40+ small wires with my huge soldering iron! *** Edit: changed the LED, now its working!

Hopefully I’m in the right place to ask this Q - The LED backlight in many radios (like the walkie-talkie FRS types) have an automatic shut-off after a few seconds to save battery. Is there a simple fix to defeat the timer so the backlight stays on? I’m guessing the timer is written into the device software and can not be DIY. - Thanks!

I have a 2000 Toyota Camry LE. I'm the 4th owner of the Camry. The original radio was removed from the in the Camry in 2002. It bit the dust. I got a new stereo receiver for my Camry. It has leds built into it. I can change the color of the leds. But due to city or state law you can't have blue or red leds shining in the cabin of the car. So I just keep the leds in the stereo receiver cool white. I want to change the a/c and heater lights to led. One the lights is burned out. I want to change all of the lights in the dashboard to led. Plus the cigarette lighter light, console shifter light, glove box light all to cool white leds lights. The ignition ring, dome light, trunk lid light has already been changed to led. The headlights have been changed to Oracle lighting V Series led headlight bulbs. They have no fan for which I like. The rest of the lights on the Camry have been changed to Sylvania Zevo Super bright leds. The only thing I don't know how to change is the lights that are in the clock of that year. I changed the Flasher to the turn signals. It works with led as well as regular bulbs. Since Camry is a silver like color I choice the cool white led bulbs. I think It'll set the Camry off. I watch your videos when they come on. Thanks for this one.

Is it a fuse that lights this board, cause I can’t get power to my license plate lights either
@devinmahon
@devinmahon 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. There are generally two fuse boxes for these Toyotas - one in the cab and one in the engine compartment. The actual fuses controlling the dash lights can be found in the cab fuse box. One will be marked “instrument cluster”, one will be marked “Dome”. There is actually another “Radio”/“Stereo” fuse but that generally powers the radio and radio lights only. Here’s the clincher: the Tail light relay (marked “TAIL”) in the engine compartment interplays with some of the cab components (turn signal system, dash light system, running lights). I had this issue. Check your fuses by replacing them with the micro fuses of appropriate voltage THAT LIGHT UP ONCE BROKEN. If the problem persists, you could check your tail light relay by replacing it ($10-$15). But most, most, most of the issues with dash lights come from the tail light system shorting (again, because the instrument cluster lights inc climate control, turn signals, tail lights all interplay). The #1 cause of dash light failure in these Toyotas is actually faulty aftermarket tow hitch hookup. Check for a loose ground if you have one. It’s because the tail light relay in the EC boosts current fed to the rear lights through a pigtail of green/white,

Do you by chance have a business? Would pay to have you change my stock radio to blue. I’d be glad to send you the face plate. Yes, I’m serious. I don’t have the equipment or the hands to do that detailed work (severe arthritis). Also, do you recommend a certain type of LEDs for the HVAC controls? Used an incandescent blue bulb and they are too dim and don’t throw light far enough. There are patches of white at the far edges on my 1999 Camry. Thanks in advance for any help.

speedkar99 hi speedkar99! Got everything done with the switch - almost. My 3 LEDs on my radio for the on/off switch are very dim. Have checked connections and even switched LEDs. Don’t know what problem is. Can you please help? For the treble/bass/fader/balance in lower right, I have no light at all. Noticed one neg/pos pole in one of the LEDs is screwed up from when I removed the original. One of the solder points is smoked. Is there a way to fix? Can I graft a new lead in there for the damaged part? I don’t want to give up. I enjoy a challenge and your videos are great. Wish I had half your skill. Have done my whole dash in blue and changed gauge needles to red with special paint. Looks awesome! Just need to get these issues taken care of in the radio and I’m all set! The cigarette lighter light was a PITA but I did it thanks to you. And if I have to change out whole board, tell me! I don’t want to do it, would rather fix it if I can. Thanks very much for your help!
