I haul every day soooooo yeah. I change the filter every 3k-5k using the bypass. After this video now I am thinking twice about no bypass. Thanks for this info. Nowadays trucks are not cheap.

I've been a chrysler Dodge Mechanic for a bit now, and this video is so good. I learned way more about an oil filter watching this than I would have ever known. Good shit. I'm not sure why this video doesn't have more views than it has, but it should.

My Pontiac has the bypass built into the oil filter adapter housing. I took it out, tapped and plugged it. Full filtration.

Since Mobil one is made by Champion Labs and the bypass is sat at 5-10 PSI Some engines are going to be running the whole time in bypass not good. That is why I use WiX oil filters their BPV are set to the Manufacture specs and you won't have that issue.

When you take your oil filter apart and find "glitter", that is not normal. Bearings do not break in, the crank should never touch the bearings if you have the proper bearing clearances and a constant supply of oil. You need to take a look at your lubrication system because it sounds like you are losing a constant flow of oil to your bearings. RPM shouldn't matter, race engines turn 6500-10K rpm during hours long races and very ,very few suffer bearing failures with a proper lubricating system. I don't know what kind of system you're running but that where I would be looking, not at your filter.

I have a dual canister AMSOIL solution a BMK28 on my 6.7L power stroke F-250. One is a 20 micron filter with a bypass valve the other 2 micron with no bypass. Since the system has the filters in parallel you will have oil flow. The 2 micro filter over time will catch all of the greater than 2 micron depress.

It's not nearly as much about getting to dirty as the oil being to cold. Up here in MN & the whole northern US Every day we start our cars & trucks it's about cold oil that will not go through the filter media for quite some time. Maybe a half hour on 20 below zero mornings, before the oil temp gets to just 175F. It starts to go through but not like it should if you're on the throttle at all. Every day for months the filter does this. Even full syn 5w20 oil. Which measures of the charts when -20, -15, even 0. The viscosity is like a heavy gear oil at normal temp, Not @ 104 F.

pressure gauge before and after the no-bypass filter ! you'll be getting decent flow only after the oil is fully up to operating temp. hope you're running 0w

It's a race car. Gets warmed up before driven. Plus I have two filters with max rated flow of 70 gpm. Oil Pressure gauge is after the filters. No issues with flow or oil pressure.

All my diesel oil filters on my Cummins 6.7 do not have a by pass valve, you might want to try a Wix XP they have high flow rate. Good luck.

i guess no bypass valve is best, do you replace your filter after every event? cause i guess i would if i use the non valve version :)
@spikedrift4 жыл бұрын
well... not really. if you run a non-bypass filter the flow is restricted on the top end. Also, the car needs to be fully warm before driven hard. I am running 2 non by pass to keep the flow on the top end higher to prevent oiling issues.

i have broken oil Filter Bypass Valve on jeep how dose that effect engine changed oil 3 times with no valve
@spikedrift2 жыл бұрын
If your bypass valve in the oil filter is broken.... then effectively you have no oil filtration since the oil is working past the filter media and going straight back into the engine. By design the by pass is just a valve with a spring and isn't easily broken. If you mean after that valve broke and you changed your oil 3 times and engine is running well I wouldn't worry about it. Might have accelerated wear on the bearings from that one time the oil by pass valve broke.
@jdenton537226 күн бұрын
Too much pressure across the filter media and it can be damaged, as in being holed and/or having particles forced through the media. One of the reasons the bypass is there to protect the media.

Did you delete the factory bypass in the oil pan where the filter mounts as well?.... I just put a delete plug in my build and am thinking of taking your advice on a bypass-less filter during initial breakin, but after breakin might go back to a bypass filter

@@spikedrift I'm referring the bypass valve under the filter, 1/2" from the oil filter threads, not the oil cooler attachment face (I'm assuming thats what you are referring)

The oil filter manufacturer can tell you the pressure at which the valve opens, watch you oil pressure gauge.

Bypass valve is really nothing more than a Pressure Regulator. Can't have 40 PSI going in. And only 20 coming out.

totally agree. only opens in extreme situations or higher oil pressures. changing the oil filter or driving like my grandmother will prevent unfiltered oil from going into the engine :P
