Getting some for my Birthday and I have some Kantor Blue so I’m definitely going to paint them like this 👍

Excellent! Swap it out for Naggaroth Night for the 187th, or Tau Ochre or Trollslayer Orange for 212th.

oh that looks soo awesome and you make it look so easy. How long do you give it to dry between each of the paint colours?

Awesome tutorial! If I might make a couple suggestions, using army painter white is significantly better than white scar, it’s smoother and has better pigment I do recommend black templar instead of a abaddon black, using that in conjunction with nuln oil washes just speeds up the process I also love using a makeup brush after the apothecary white for a white overbrush. Brings the white back and gets rid of the chalkiness while leaving some gradiation, and it’s quicker 😂

For all my Phase I Clones I used Black Templar on the weapons, it works nicely. Over white that bright it can come out a bit... grey, hence suggesting using a straight black for this tutorial. Make up brushes are indeed awesome for drybrushing!
@craiglawrence5978
@craiglawrence5978 2 жыл бұрын
@@criticalhitwargaming5290 Absolutely! If you use over nuln oil before, then a second time to help the templar with capillary action it comes out OK, granted I do black oil washes afterwards as easy weathering so that probably doesn’t hurt 😂

Your dry brushing seems like it leaves such a smooth finish. Mine always is streaky with lines from the brush. How do you get it so smooth?

Having less on your brush is one of the ways forward. Alternatively, try and source yourself some make up brushes or some of the decent drybrushes from Army Painter etc.

White Undercoat (White Scar from your nearby Games Workshop will do) Apothecary White (Contrast) Contrast Medium OR Soulblight Grey (Shade) Black Legion (Contrast) Corax White White Scar Kantor Blue (for 501st like the video) Stirland Mud (texture paint) Baneblade Brown That'll get you started!

I’m curious why do you paint the figure while it’s assembled wouldn’t it be easier to paint it then assemble it?
@criticalhitwargaming5290
@criticalhitwargaming5290 Жыл бұрын
No, basically. It takes infinitely longer, and is very very fiddly. Some of the models for newer kits come in very small pieces attached to the sprue they come on, and painting all of the tiny pieces and then ruining your paint trying to glue it all together just takes far too much time. Larger models are often painted in sub-assemblies. This is particularly true if different parts of a bigger model are totally different colours, then you can spray them the appropriate colour and make painting a lot easier. Otherwise, putting the whole model together and painting it is 10-15 times quicker.

i try to paint things as assembled as possible, that really helps you get the overall shading correct and saves time and is more fun tbh

Wouldn't white scar by citadel be a better paint to use to touch up than corax? I use Matt white by colour forge and white scar is a near match where as corax is much more grey, it's a big difference.

@@criticalhitwargaming5290 Even the normal paint? I know the spray was recent but I thought the layer white scar was older than that 😅 I can't remember when I got mine though

@@ric1194 Sorry mate completely misread your original comment! Yeah the reason you use Corax White as a touch-up is because once you've put Apothecary White over the bright white undercoat, you've actually dulled the white almost to the same level as Corax White. If you use White Scar, or pure white, it is really obvious against the slightly more greyed white all around it. I discovered this by trying to cover up a mistake with White Scar and it looked far too bright.
@ric1194
@ric1194 Жыл бұрын
@@criticalhitwargaming5290 ahhh thankyou for clearing that up. I've primed my clones in matt white but I've never been able to cover everything so neatly like you do it the video, little bits of the grey plastic show through, would you say white scar is a good paint to use to cover these up? Or would something like matt white by army painter be better? I don't want mixed whites on my clones 😅
@criticalhitwargaming5290
@criticalhitwargaming5290 Жыл бұрын
@@ric1194 Definitely focusing on covering the model at the spraying phase. I bluetac them all to a strip of strong cardboard and give them an all round blast of Matt White, and then once I've taken them off I have a look from the bottom up and give the a squirt from that direction too. Sometimes underneath arms and weapons can be missed. If you *have* to touch them up, then use White Scar. Just might need a couple of layers.

can nuln oil be a subsitute for the contrast
@criticalhitwargaming5290
@criticalhitwargaming5290 2 жыл бұрын
It can if you mix it 2:1 Lahmian Medium/Nuln Oil. Your model will go an awkward patchy stained black if you use it straight out the pot. I'd highly recommend grabbing some Apothecary White and Contrast Medium though, it's much easier.
