Amateur miniature painting. Speedpaints or contrast paints are for Amateurs. Not! 😅 I respectfully disagree. I love speedpaints! So innovative and makes painting so easy and so fun. This video shows a super quick speed painting of this ‪@CreatureCaster‬ resin casted miniature. It took me just an afternoon in painting this mini, including the highlighting with Warpaints Fanatic.

I don't understand how anyone could claim someone else is a amateur for using a specific type of paint.. and then bash your achievements for your preferred style of painting. People like this are jealous, and probably untalented with the delusional belief they are better than anyone else. I have been painting miniatures with a style similar to contrast/speed paints before they were even a thing. I would love to hear what comments they come up with knowing that and seeing my achievements. 😅

It was thanks to AP Speed Paint that I became so invested in improving as a painter. Now, I'm to a point where returning to speed paints is intimidating, since they are less forgiving of mistakes.

Oh do not worry on making early mistakes. Simply correct them via layering with standard acrylics, like Warpaints Fanatic. 😊

love your stuff, Don. I really hate the look of most "pro" miniature painting. The perfectly smooth blending, NMM, and edge highlights make it all look super cartoony. It looks silly. Everything you are doing looks really great. Don't listen to garbage comments. I look forward to all of your vids. Keep it up!

The only thing I don't really like about super professional jobs is that they try claim realism all the time... You have to really understand light to make nmm look good guys... Proceeds to paint highlights in areas it's not possible. Reflections in areas that don't really work etc... It's as far from realism as possible as they over highligh things to show off the model. Nothing wrong with it, but it's funny seeing them claim realism and an understanding of light. The rest is fine

Just a great video! I really like how you show the strength of using speedpaints to base the miniature before finishing with opaque acrylics. You probably could not do the reverse and get these results, so the system is great. I also think it is so interesting, and probably the reason for enthusiasts of the each system having a difference of opinion, how the methods for getting results is opposite for each: speedpaints start with a light base and gradually apply deeper color, classic opaque painting starts with a darker base of color and gradually applies light in the form of lighter colors. This videos shows a great use of both to achieve a beautiful result.

I wish I had the talent and skill that Don, the 'amateur hack' has. The point to painting for this hobby is to do what you enjoy, how you enjoy it. Furthermore, use whatever tools make it easier or more fun for you. Personally, I like the speed paint as a base and layer up from there approach and applaud your use of that technique. Now if only I could use it as well as you Don.... back to the latest project. Cool video.

At around 9:20 when you start highlighting, I noticed you already applied some pink glow to the jewels and leg of the character, reflecting off the magic skulls. How did you apply that? Was this through some fat glazes and build up layers? Air brush?

I love speed paints as well. You are doing a great job, keep it up! As a request, would you demonstrate how you would paint a large miniature (like a behir) using speed paints if you aren't proficient with an airbrush?

How do you apply Speedpaint 2.0 to get a nice looking skin on a mini without the coffee staining? Do you put the paint on heavily and mop it up?

The skeleton details are easy to do with the speedpaints and a bit of layering. I find it easy to use the basecoat and layering for some of them to spped up painting.

probably hard for anyone to lay claim to contrast-type paint plus normal "layer" highlights, it's an obvious step. But Juan Hidalgo would probably have the most claim (and evidence) to it with his 'eavy contrast video series

Hello Don, I've been using speed paints a lot lately (quite new to miniature painting) and my biggest problem is usually that when I paint a color (for example blue) slightly outside of the correct area, the color of that area (for example brown) often doesnt really cover the mistake fully. Could you tell me the best way to handle this? Much love 🙌
