My money is on a awd hybrid . That would make it different from the GTD and be a evolution from the GT500 . The green cover makes me think eco

I get the feeling the yellow draped car is a Boss 302 or a GT350 or maybe a "Cobra". I doubt they'll do another brand new name again after they did the Katy Perry variant.

instead of doing gt500, why not doing a gt350 2024, with the most powerfull flat plan crank N/A v8 ford has ever produced, with manual only, just like the gt350 we got, this would get a lot of attention

I completely agree. The product positioning would allow Ford to go head to head against Chevrolet! In that sense, a high horsepower N/A FPC V8 would be an awesome choice.

Mustang GTD is not attainable. Even if you have the money only around 1,000 will be made.

Actually you've got an interesting point! Since the car will be so limitedly produced, then a GT500 could fit the mold of an 800 horsepower high production volume Mustang.

The last 350 was way too slow. Fine for track but way underpowered for the street. GTs and SSs were faster.

And before you answer I had a 2020 GT with intake and exhaust with e85 tune and I’m going to tell you that the GT was not faster with the tune yes but if I do the same thing to the 350 it will eat the GT and a ss 🤣🤣 you a little silly for that as ss don’t even try me my bro.

A new GT500 (or whatever it's named) would likely have: No trans axle, NO carbon fiber body, NO active aero, NO horizontal rear suspension, NOT nearly as exclusive. Just an incremental improvement on the current car with some trickle down from the GTD perhaps would be enough to justify it's existence IMO.

Your making assumptions. The GT3 Mustang which is basically the chassis being used for the GTD is not the same as an assembly line Dark Horse. Like the upcoming S650 GT500. There will no longer be a Shelby Mustang built by Ford. It will either be a GT500 or a name from the past like the Dark Horse Cobra. Don't be surprised per a recent Jim Farley statement regard reducing the S650 weight and producing a hybrid performance Mustang which could possibly be a new GT500 being that performance Hybrid Mustang especially since Ford will be building hybrid engines for the Red Bull Formula One race team. You mentioned the Chevy C8 offers versions separated yet the performance numbers for the the Z06 and the limited usage Hybrid battery on the E-Ray have similar performance numbers. You also mentioned Dodge models. They have been discontinued with the Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis unexpectedly taking an early retirement. This leaves the Dark Horse lineup to compete against the C8 with the Camaro being discontinued. The GTD and a new GT500 will be separated more than enough to have both available.. With the new upcoming fleet mpg numbers. We know the GTD is a limited production Supercar and I'm guessing the S650 GT500 could also be a limited edition performance Mustang. That also leaves Ford with the less expensive Mustang GT and EcoBoost. I think Ford has a strong lineups of Mustang sports cars with even more to come. Don't be surprised seeing a Mustang sedan to fill the void Ford has after dropping their Fusion and Taurus especially now that Dodge has dropped their Charger

You are making no sense when saying there is no room between a GTD at $300+K and a Dark Horse at $60K ???

GTD definitely is not getting 800 hp. A 105 lb ft increase and a higher redline means it’ll probably be closer to 900 than 800.

Usually when Ford talks about numbers, it turns out to be around 50 hp more. So 855 hp seems plausible. Maybe 870-880 hp

Dark Horse or GT with Whipple Supercharger is a factory option. You get 810hp on the DH and 800hp on the GT. How much different is the DH with the whipple, than the GT 500? Performance and quality wise I would think would be close. You order the handling pack, whipple and carbon wheels and you are 80K to 90K on the DH. Is the GT500 CFTP still a much better car at a similar price point?

I think you're forgetting that you're talking about the mustang gt500. Like, there will always be both a demand and market for that car. You don't necessarily need a true market for a car that will always be desired

I think they should keep the 760 hp predator engine and DCT but concentrate on making it as light as possible and some how even out the weight distribution but not with the transaxle to differentiate it from the GTD. I'm no engineer but could they put radiators, battery, AC compressor somehow in the back? Replace chassis and body parts with light weight materials to bring the total weight of the car down to 3400-3500 pounds max. Call it the GT500R !

I think ford is going to leave the GT350’s and GT500 to Shelby Automobile from now on. I believe they are going to take base or track focused and put their own spin on them.

They haven’t revisited the 428 SCJ mantle yet and a 7.3 Godzilla could easily be de-stroked to 7 liters and twin turbo for a drag strip car?🧐

If you notice the cover on the vehicle is green that tells me it'll have that motor but it's going to have some kind of electric motor on it

I’m convinced the new GT500 will be a stripped down GTD. Take away the active arrow, take away the wide-body put all the creature comforts back in, and there’s your GT500 oh, and I bet it cost $150,000.

Ford GT engine with electric assist. Didn't Ford have the Cobra Jet for drag racing? I still think it may have a whole new name like the Darkhorse. Of course a N/A Boss 9 with Godzilla motor would be cool.

I would LOVE to see the Boss return! That would be amazing! Yes, cobra jet is for drag racing but it has not been found on a street legal vehicle before. So, there could be a prime opportunity to use it!

Ford knows it needs to get those tires sticking off the line, so look for a hybrid like the E-Ray. I dnk when, but it has to happen.

The Mustang GTD does not share almost anything with a mustang that exists today. I mean we’re talking about the horsepower but that has nothing to do with why the car is no comparison to a normal mustang. It has a completely different frame that’s a race car frame in order to create perfect balance even though it has a front engine the transmission itself sits on the rear axle area, that means the heavy transmission and the heavy engine kind of balanced them out 50-50. It also has a very advanced linkage rear suspension in the front and the rear. I think the horsepower again is for quarter milers. A GT3 RS is not the fastest quarter-mile Porsche. And the new electric turbo GTS would destroy a GT3 RS and a heads up drag race. But I’m telling you right now that mustang is going to start breaking records around tracks in its class. I was pretty shaken about how advanced it is it reminds me of when the GT Ford came out, looking like a Ferrari but I love this channel and I so enjoy watching Austin driving talk about cars. He brings that little kid out inside of all of us when we see amazing cars or do something that’s amazing in a car.

Since Ford is wanting to go forward with the technology out there, I think they should do something like what the new Corvette is doing with introducing EV technology in the Mustang. And I don't mean the Mach-E. Slowly introduce some EV technology in the new GT500 and maybe call it a Shelby GT800. Something brand new like they did with the Darkhorse name. Keep pushing forward or Ford will be left in the dust from the competition. I currently own a 2022 Mach 1 and I use it for my daily. I love the Mach 1 and the name that just holds something special from the past. Darkhorse was a big chance to take, but I think it went well. As far as the Shelby Super Snake is concerned, I think they have a great new model with the Shelby Super Snake. Great to hear everyone's thoughts about the future for the Ford Mustang.

The Dark Horse is not competitive with a Z06. They are missing a GT350 and a GT500 at those price points. Or they need to upgrade the Dark Horse as I don't see passion around those cars like the GT350. Great car, but not in league of the previous generation.

In terms of Ford's strategy for the S650, Jim Farley has been talking a lot about Porsche and the 911 in particular. He is benchmarking them in terms of motorsports and road cars for the Mustang. Porsche will have a 992 GT2RS and still be producing the 992 Turbo S. Just look at how many 992 variants there are to get some idea of what Farley is thinking. Also look at the profit that Porsche earns from this strategy to see why Farley likes it. There is clearly plenty of demand for an S650 GT500 that will not be remotely the same as the GTD. I hope that they put the rear transaxle in the GT500 and make it truly better than the S550 GT500, just like how the 992 Turbo is truly better than a 991 Turbo. The GTD will still be much higher performance though. Again, just look at the very limited run 911s. They theoretically could overlap each other, but instead build more demand for the whole model line, not less and more profit for the company overall.

There is no cross shopping between gtd and gt500 simply due to the fact of the extremely limited gtd production numbers and the insanely stupid allotment procedure. I guarantee you will not be mixing it up on track next to a gtd at your local hpd event

Ford should start a new car called GTC or GT Cobra. It should be a 2 door sports car to compete against the vette. It would be nice to have rear wheel and AWD options.

I just came in from taking my 20 500 out for some spirited driving. The car is a blast to drive. This being said I am interested in what is next. I'd love to see Ford resurrect the Cobra and get away from the Shelby nameplate.

I don't think the car that splits the DH and the GTD would wear the GT500 namesake. GT500 has traditionally been the "top dog" Mustang and that crown is definitely the GTD. I forsee a resurrection of a previous model (potentially the SVT Cobra namesake?) and along the lines of a crazy grand touring car. The 13-14 GT500 was the drag racer, the 20-22 GT500 was the track car, and I feel the next will be a crazy multitool grand tourer.

@@TXBlackKnight88 oh yeah, maybe you’re right. I just remember wanting one. I guess my point is the GTD isn’t really a regular mustang, more of a race car which most of us can’t get. There’s still room for a gt500 which will be expensive but still attainable. I’d still consider a gt500 the top dog even though the GTD existed.

@@teamcaveman I mean, I want to see a car between the DH and the GTD...but an $80K+ DH doesn't leave a lot of room for the GT500 equivalent car to sit. By that...I mean I don't know if there is enough margin to make money off a Mustang that is six figures.

@@TXBlackKnight88 I guess they shot themselves in the foot with that one. My first Cobra in 1993 wasn’t that much more than a GT and offered a few choice upgrades that made it better all around. With the last GT500, we expect so much more than just a few tweeks here and there. My last GT500 sold for so much more just based on the name because all body panels were the same other than a few pieces; 2008 the hood, wing front and rear bumper. You’re right in that it will be expected to be drastically different and it’ll cost way more

Ford definitely need to come out with high horsepower gt500 that doesn’t cost $325k. Something like what American Shelby did with new s650 super snake.

I think you are right, the new Mustang is likely to be a AWD Hyrbid to test the waters. This is why I think Shelby American already came out with their version of the Shelby S650, they know Ford isn't going to do a GT500 anytime soon. I think what Chevy did with the E-Ray was a magnificent blending of mid-engine and electric hybrid packaging. Us Ford guys need to catch up!
