Just used your video to find out that I didn't need to use the C press to remove ball joints. Saved me a lot of time. Install went awesome 1:30 per side both ball joints. Only difference is I took the rotors off to make them lighter. Thanks very much!!!!!

I was as fast when I worked on mine except I spent 1 hr hammering the lower balljoint and another hr installing the new ones. Amazing you can just tap them out using a small hammer and chisel, on a rotating rotor.

Man, your video is fukin awesome. I'm a shade-tree mechanic and haven't done ball joints in years. After watching your tricks of the trade I have no worries about accomplishing this mission. Absolutely appreciate you taking the time to make and post this video. My vehicle is near verbatim 2003 E-350, XLT is only difference. Been 18 years since I had to do a ball joint, and it was a bitch with stone knives and bearskins, or so it seemed. Thanks Again, now to place an order with Rock Auto.

Just curious how much time in "real-time" this took. My mechanic is quoting me 6 hours labor for both upper and lower ball joints on both wheels. Does that seem reasonable?
@NorthernKitty3 жыл бұрын
@TJ Morrow Thanks for the advice. But he ended up only needing 4, which included other work on the suspension, and he actually did some other minor work for free, so I'm happy. His 6 hour quote appeared to be hedging for a "worst-case scenario", as it's a beast of a job.

YESS!! Initially I saw the short run time, and the still shot of the part already off, and thought the video would be lacking. NOT lacking. So much info in a small amount of time, that adds a layer of quality. Out of curiosity, what are the yellow marks for?

This was an AWESOME video, thanks for making it! I'm having a shop replace my front joints because I just don't have the time to do this kind of repair myself anymore. Replaced many of the joints on my vehicles when i was younger. One thing I don't know, is why the yellow paint on the joints? Is that in case they loosen somehow, and you can see that at a glance?

I thought the same. Sure likes that marker. I also don't recommend beating the brake rotor into the concrete trying to get the ball joint out. Otherwise, good install.

What are the yellow markings for?
@collectionofatoms18766 жыл бұрын
I think that they are so that you can see if any of the painted parts have rotated since they were installed (indicating that you should inspect it further and see if it's a loose or improper fit or if a nut worked itself loose and so on.
