The information below was taken directly from my 2009 F150 FFV 5.4 Maintenance guide. --- It clearly recommends a different maintenance schedule for FFVs. Special Operating Conditions However, if one or more of the Special Operating Conditions outlined below better describes how you typically operate your vehicle, you will need to perform some maintenance services more often than the Normal Schedule recommends. • Towing a trailer or carrying heavy loads • Extensive idling and/or driving at low-speeds for long distances • Driving in dusty conditions • Off-road operation • Use of E85 fuel 50% of the time or greater (flex fuel vehicles only) Important: See also below -- This is from the owners' manual, It is referring to the above maintenance guide with a word on alternating between fuels Flex fuel vehicles have a yellow bezel around the fuel fill inlet. It is best not to alternate repeatedly between gasoline and E85. If you do switch fuels, it is recommended that you add as much fuel as possible-at least half a tank. Do not add less than five gallons (18.9L) when refueling. You should drive the vehicle immediately after refueling for at least 5 miles (8 km) to allow the vehicle to adapt to the change in ethanol concentration. If you operate your vehicle 50% or more of the time on ethanol, you should follow a different maintenance schedule. In addition to this, it is also recommended to fill the fuel tank with regular unleaded gasoline once every 3,000 miles (4,800 km). See scheduled maintenance information for more information In short, the oil change interval is reduced from 7500 to 5000 miles - Or by a third -- Which makes sense as 30% more fuel is consumed with E85. I have used this example for all of my customers choosing to run E-85 or FFV combinations when I worked at Peitz. If Ford felt strong enough to put it in the maintenance schedule and mention it in the Owners' Manual then I feel it is sound advice.

That's good info B. I was looking for SOME kind of guideline. Interestingly a 2016 Dodge Caravan, 2019 F150, and 2018 Silverado didn't mention anything, unless I missed it. I searched "E85" in the manuals and "oil change" as well. Ford did say to run a tank of gas through once every oil change. I'm not sure what that would help though since it's so far apart. I'll personally run 1/2 tank of gas through mine every month just because. I've gone to once a year oil changes on all my vehicles, so my Blackstone analysis tells me what I need to know.

@@SpeedysGarage from my research on this subject from quite a few years ago, all flex-fuel manufacturers owner's manuals and scheduled maintenance guides would list flex fuel vehicle, E85 usage, as severe-duty. One thing that I did notice that was consistent was that if the oil change interval for normal usage was roughly 5,000 miles, the flex fuel stipulation for maintenance was to run one tank of gasoline at every oil change, but no change in oil change interval. It was only when the oil change interval went over 5,000 miles that there was a change in mileage and oil change intervals, much like how my F-150 was. One interesting example is the Durango from about the same time period. It will pick up on E85 usage and the change oil light can come on in as little as 3500 miles. With its owner's manual actually reading something to the effect of "change the oil within 500 Mi of the indicator illumination." Another proper maintenance tip for running E85 consistently is to make sure that the vehicle is taken on steady-state drives at low load for at least 15 to 20 minutes. With the oil temperature at least 180 degrees. This helps to distill any alcohol out of the oil thus reducing fuel dilution.

Have you considered running a diffuser? the one I have from Zl1 keeps the air out of the back bumper (creating a parachute). I dont know how much of difference it would make but it defiinitely doesnt hurt it. Great Video and I will start using them for oil analysis, Thanks for the info.

Manual for our 14 ram absolutely says if you run e85 to change oil more often. More often than the engine tracker says. Similar to towing.

That's what I expected to find on my searching but looking at a 2016 Dodge Caravan, 2019 F150, and 2018 Chevy Silverado very little mention of anything really. Ford did have a blurb about running one tank of regular gasoline every oil change, but I chose to do 1/2 a tank once a month personally.

I stick to pennzoil since I like to follow the Manual but I also noticed it’s hard to find in stores so I just order it thought Amazon in bulk every 3 months highly recommended

Fun fact: Amazon sells Quaker state for like $14 for 5qts whenever they get a new shipment in. Don't buy it when it's $20, the stock truck is coming. And QS is owned by Shell which owns Pennzoil. All 3 are the same thing.

Do you worry about Low Speed Pre-Ignition with the high calcium count in Mobil 1, especially in the supercharged 6.2? That’s why I’ve always used Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. It has a lot less calcium and uses a large amount of magnesium as a detergent, instead.

Never even heard of that. Been running Mobil 1 in supercharged engines for about 15 years.

Great info...Does Blackstone Lab give any specs on what values are acceptable? I use J Deere and my copper at 68 and 75 PPM are showing out of spec. Only have 6K miles so may be concerned about nothing. They state it might be passivation of the oil cooler???? I have been thinking copper is a bearing issue but never had a MOPAR engine apart and have no idea what bearing they use.

No, I'm not in to boutique oil. The standard stuff I can easily get locally has worked no problemo with oil analysis to back it up. Amsoil is good stuff for sure, just overkill for what I do.

As far as I know the diffs are the same dimensions, just different gears in them, so yep.

Could be. E85 is a great fuel and I've been able to get more from it vs the standard race gas I had been using.

I know tons of people that do. One's a shop with a test Hellcat. They wanted to see what would happen and have run it exclusively on leaded race gas for years with cats and O2s. However, my car didn't like it for some reason for sure.
