6:25 drinking a cola flavoured sugar syrup to "keep fluid levels up" is a uniquely American tragedy with or without the rest of the story. Worthy of its own video.
@Visiopod3 ай бұрын
Adding context to anyone unaware: Cola and other sodas are an incredibly bad idea to drink on hot days, as they don't actually keep your vitals up, since the body spends more energy on processing the drink than it gets out of it, so if you're already dehydrated you'll only feel temporarily better, before getting worse. Alcohol does the same thing. If you must drink something with flavor, try ice tea with no other ingredients than water, sugar and a tiny bit of artificial flavor and eat some chips on the side. But preferably drink water and eat something with real sugar and salt. No artificial stuff as the body uses more energy on processing it than it gains. Anyone in healthcare or working as first responders should be able to cooperate this info as I only know this because those people told me that and I believe trusting the professionals is always a great idea
@beetle1493 ай бұрын
What's worthy of their own video, the fact that people drink Coke? Or the fact that she unknowingly made her dyhydration worse with soda? A lot of people wouldn't know that, and not all of them are American. "Coke is fluid, fluid good" is not that stupid IF you never read about it before.

As was said in the video they all assumed that someone else had bought the soda, which is a lot easier of an assumption to make than "someone snuck into our house at night with a poisoned pack of soda and planted it" Especially in a household that big. The only one who maybe should have been suspicious is the husband who read the death threat.

Something that doesn't get mentioned enough in the case of poisoning is just how cruel a method of murder it is. I couldn't count the number of times I've seen cases of women poisoning their husbands where it was treated as black comedy. Most of these poisoning deaths involve extended periods of pure suffering for the victims. We are often talking weeks or even months of the absolute worst kind of gut wrenching agony. This is internal pain of the worst kind. One cannot even properly imagine the sort of cold-sweat inducing torture these people go through. The worst drunken dry-heaving in between trickles of black bile with ones whole face in the toilet bowl while phlegm pours from the nose and tears stream from the eyes - those are moments of heavenly bliss in comparison. This is suffering so extreme it's common to disassociate from one's own moaning.

I live in the next county over to the West of Polk county. I had never heard this story. I've heard other ones about a family member using antifreeze on another family member. Even taking a small amount themselves to try and look innocent. That wife knew damn well what her husband did. Her low key threat the week before the first poisoning to Peggy shows the intent. Just no proof. As someone who has never dabbled in drugs (other than weed) in my 54 years, I learned something from this story. It may sound really dumb but I didn't realize that meth has been around so long. I honestly thought it was a new man made drug from maybe 20 years ago. About 10-15 years ago I went to buy Sudafed because my daughter's and I would get sinus infections and it helped our sinuses from getting clogged. Anyway, I had several boxes because there were 4 of us taking it. I was told there was a monthly limit and I had to show my license. I had to have that explained to me. Now it's kept behind the pharmacy. The other one that's on the shelves doesn't work as good for me.

fwiw thallium poisoning is one of those things that most doctors will probably never -or at most a few times- see in their career. If I'm not mistaken, it's really rare as far as [unidentified] poisons go. Usually people know when they accidentally ingested rat poison or weedkiller or whatever, so it's not a mystery then. Still, it is somewhat embarrassing, rarity isn't really a good reason not to at least test for it. Better than saying "Idk man just go home"
