Spektrum Quick Hit Tech Tips - DX3 Smart AUX Setup for Dig, Winches and more

In this video Tom walks our fellow RC enthusiasts thru the different Auxiliary Channel modes on the Spektrum DX3 Smart and how to use them. This is a great video for those with crawlers that include the DX3, like the Axial SCX10 iii, Or those looking for a extremely capable, yet affordable, 3 Channel transmitter for there crawlers, scalers and bashers.
In this video we cover how to setup a 2 position momentary switch which is great for setting up the Dig servo in your crawlers and scalers. Here is a shortcut to that section - 1:40
Then we cover setting up a 3 position momentary switch, which is great for winches. Here is a shortcut to that section - 5:48
And Finally we go over setup of the 5 Position Latching mode. This mode is likely the most versatile because it can be used for a 2-5 locking positions, 2 being perfect for ON/OFF functions like lights with controllers and locking functions like 2 speed transmissions. Here is a shortcut to that segment - 8:00
One thing we want to stress is that you make sure to rebind your receiver after doing this type of programming. This is so that if the rx goes into failsafe, that it does not force the servo into a position where it is binding up and damaging the servo. Also note that failsafe positions are the position that the receiver will go to when you power on the receiver without the transmitter being on first :)

So I set the DIG servo endpoints. Then I re-bind the radio and receiver. But then doesn't that reset everything? When binding I then reset throttle and steering limits too, or just bind then turn off? Thanks for this video and all your help.

You failed to explain how to use it for lights and winches. The only thing you explained was how to set servo positions over and over again. I've got a warn winch, how can I plug it in and get it to work? I've tried but no luck

I purchased a complete electronic system/package which i paired with a spektrum sr515 5 channel and the 4ws settings on the dx5r is wack 😑 😒 😤 i hate having to use different remotes for my rigs but i wouldn't have been able to setup my endpoint adjustments without this very informative video thanks! -capra 4ws with vanquish f9 portal axles f/r and vanquish transmission with 2 reefs 900smarts 🤘

Just finishing up a Ryft kit build and I couldn't figure out why my 2soeed didn't work. I'm guessing it's cuz I was in 2 position momentary. Hitting the bench this afternoon to get it worked out. Thanks for the help.

Please, please add this info to the instructions in the SCX10 III RTRs. I burned out two dig servos not knowing this. Also, please post the DX3 / SPM2340 Manual on the Spektrum site. It is not there in the Support menu!

Hello friend, I have a radio dx3 and in my arrma infraction 6s I will have moved some settings with the bluethoot module in the app, the problem is that when I detach the avc does not turn off and the wheels no longer turn, instead when I reactivate the avc is always active and the wheels instead turn, I can not detach the avc yes and mixed with the servo, Please help me.

How can you setup this receiver for 4 wheel steering? I would like to be able to turn it on and off and have the steering knob control both servos.

Not possible with the DX3, you need a programmable transmitter for that, such as the DX5C

I got this DX3 transmitter and one day when I turn it on and then turn on my truggy. Suddenly the transmitter is having one light turning red/green blinking a lot and with this very annoying chirping music tone sound coming from it. Afterward, my truggy being to reverse and lost control. What is happening? During that time, there are other people running their RC cars already, and I'm around a huge rail-road train track as my environment. Just laying out the setting of the situation. If anybody can chime in on what's going on, that will be much appreciated.

Do u have to do it with out esc connected and do it with just a battery connected cause mine does not do anything when I turn on the esc for power cause I'm trying to program with using a 2speed trans I'm really confused try to program this any help would be appreciated

Not sure if I follow? First thing that comes to mind is that you should make sure the polarity from the esc to the receiver is correct

Just so people know you can use 3 pos for rear wheel steering. Just set 1 to middle 2 for left and 3 for right.

Thank you for the video, very helpful. Why, why, why isn't this done at factory instead of frying servo after servo before figuring out what's going on? Axial gladiator rtr I purchased was not setup that way out of the box, and nowhere did it mention to do so. Disappointing spektrum, Axial, Horizon . Luckily Horizon backs its products ...but easily avoidable altogether 😤

From our understanding it is supposed to be done out of the box BUT it is possible it has been overlooked at the vendor. Glad we were able to take care of and that you found this info helpful!

I had the exact same problem, purchased my gladiator a week ago and two minutes out of the box and running the dig servo quits and starts making a horrendous noise. Called up the shop and they said bring it in and we’ll swap it out but they have yet to receive any servos to replace it with. I feel like this is a known issue with that specific servo as there are forums dedicated to how bad that servo is. I have no issues with the rig other than that. Hopefully I can get it replaced and the end points set correctly

Hello, You did not show how lights that have an interpreter works with the A & B switch for this particular remote and receiver. Would you kindly show how it is properly done please. I have tried and to no avail the A & B switch does NOT WORK. The light is plugged into channel 3 and lights only toggle when I turn the wheel on the remote with the st rate at full right. Again, I see it can work but how do I designate the lights to the A & B switch instead of the steering wheel?

before i started anything the servo was responding but returning back to neutral. after i tried messing with the dx3 setup the servo doesnt even respond?? it is plugged into AUX1 on the Rx. this is the most frustrating crap ive ever seen. how do i get my servo to see aux1? using a micro servo for 2spd on a Ryft*

Sounds like you started the process and did not assign a value for any positions. Try going thru the 2 position latching procedure once again.

Im having issues with my radio... Trying to run a winch.. brand new out of the box it was working fine like i wanted 3 pos mono.. then it started acting up where id go to winch out and the winch would just take off... And id have to hit the button a few times to get it to stop... So i tried to go in and reprogram. And now when i plug up, the winch just takes off and gets no communication from the radio

Sounds like you might have the points mixed up, try a factory reset and reprogram the AUX channel. Hope that helps!

@@jessiechapman2345 Factory Reset Mode Resetting the transmitter to factory settings resets the AUX channel mode, the AUX channel point positions and the endpoints of the steering wheel and trigger. To reset the transmitter to the factory settings, power on the transmitter while holding the steering wheel to full left and the trigger to full brake.

Why does this have the 5 position but it couldn’t be put in the dx5 rugged. I bought one to replace the dx3 and it will be going back due to the poor options for rear steer without a pot knob or 5 pos switch setup like this

The number of available positions can depend on the function. For instance, on the DX5 Rugged, if you using the 4WS mixing you are able to assign up to 4 positions.

@@miketube6662 Do your lights have a control box of some sort? If you are just plugging in leds into a rx port that is only providing power, you need something in between to interpret the signal and turn off and on the leds.
