This is an excellent video series but for us folks that have not been using flight modes it is very confusing. At 1:42 minutes of the video it says something about the flight modes that we had setup earlier, however, I go through Series 1-4 and there is nothing about setting these up so how was I supposed know to do this before? I really like the concept of the forward programming with these new smart RX but for those of us have not been using flight modes it is very confusing. Also, from what I understand there are RX flight modes and TX flight modes which even makes if further confusing. Guys - keep up these videos but just please remember that you do this every day and have been doing it for years. Think of your audience here. When I was working and had a complex set of instructions to get out to our fleet guys I would have some of the administrative folks in the office do the process. The had only limited knowledge of the process so it was a great way to check if it was a good process to send out to the fleet.

The flight mode must be configured in the flight mode settings. There are 5 flight modes overall. The 100% = fm mode 1, 50% = fm mode 2, 0% = fm mode 3, -50% = fm mode 4 and -100% = fm mode 5. Now check what gain your switch cause.

My setup are as followed: Flight mode 1 is AS3X setup using the Gain nob to adjust the roll and pitch, also to rotate counter clockwise to turn off the AS3X if desired. Flight mode 2 for safe select self leveling and Flight mode 3 for Envelope.

After a lot of fiddling around I figured out how to get this setup to this point with my older DX6. The key was to first update the radio software, then before getting into the Forward Programming I went into System Setup and set the channels such that the Gear Channel was set to Switch D and Channel 5 and the Aux1 Channel was set to Channel 6 and Switch B. For some reason the updated software for the radio shows a Channel 7 which of course does not exist on a 6 channel radio, so this Channel 7 needs to be set to inhibit, otherwise strange things happen. After this I started over with video 1 (for about the tenth time) and was able to progress to this video.

I have watched this entire series over and over again and I think I finally have it right EXCEPT for this one issue. It looks like SAFE has to be associated with a flight mode. What I really want is to flip switch A to turn on SAFE only when I get in trouble (switch B is for flight modes) and turn it off again once things stabilize, regardless of the flight mode. What am I missing here?
@SpektrumRCvideos2 жыл бұрын
The best way to do this would be to use the Flight mode menu to setup 2 switches for flight modes. Then you will be able to use A and B for up to 5 different flight modes. Also make sure that the channel you are using to control flight modes on your AS3X is assigned to the FMODE (flight mode) switch (not B or A specifically). Hope that helps!

Curious. How does he have AUX 4 on a 6 channel receiver? Also, hasn't he used up all the channels on that aircraft? Throttle, Ailleron, Elevator, Rudder, Gear, Aux 1(Flaps)?

I've read every comment and have watched each video over and over. I've also watched others. GAIN. What precisely is gain in this context. In Radio, "gain" refers to the recievers ability to pick up a transmitters signal. So, instead of increasing the range of the transmitter we make it easier for the reciever to pick up the signal by increasing the reciever's "gain". Is this what we're talking about? If not, please tell me what "gain" is referring to specifically. Also, why do I want to keep messing with gain once no oscillation is achieved? Why would a change the gain in different flight modes?
@joe922 жыл бұрын
Gain in this sense refers to the ratio of change in the input to the change in the output. As an example, an increase in roll channel gain will result in a more aggressive response to un-commanded roll. Gains are discussed extensively in feedback control system theory. Changing gains for different flight conditions is useful because gains for one condition might not be appropriate for another. An example would be different gains for cruise or landing configuration because you might need larger gains at lower speeds to get the same response you might have at cruise speeds.

HELP. I'm on a DX8 and I'm struggling with the gain channel select and the Flight mode channel select. Upon set up, for Gain channel select, I can only see AUX 3 Rknob in my available channels, even though AUX 2 is completely free and assigned to use switch D. So when I then go to Flight Mode channel select, I can't choose AUX2 on switch D, which is all assigned. I've checked everything all my channels are free, they are assigned perfectly and no flaps, mixes, throttle cut, or anything else uses those channels. Can someone help me with this?

I've tried so many things so many times. Am I missing something? I can't get it to use Aux2 for Flight modes, and Aux3 for gains. Tried and tried and tried. Please do help me!!!!
@janrc4 жыл бұрын
You have to assigne the FMode to the channel AUX2. Take care you have configured the Flight mode in your model in the radio first. Do not assign the flight mode switch directly to a channel! If you do not have done this I suggest you reset the receiver, configure the flight mode and after that start again with the forward programming.

Can the potentiometer be used to adjust the gain on only one surface at a time? And, can that one surface gain be captured without effecting preciously captured gains for the other channels?
@SpektrumRCvideos3 жыл бұрын
Sure can. There is a menu that you can use that allows you to make 1 axis(surface) adjustable and the others not. Hope that helps!

Did you manage to sort this out?? This receiver is pointless if I can’t get as3x and safe programmed.
@LivinTheDream-LV4 жыл бұрын
@@putzytart , yes, I did. Try this. Delete the model you are trying to get working and start with a new model. Set up the plane as the manual instructs you to do (wing type, flaps, etc.) and BEFORE you go into Forward Programming go into Channel Assign, then go into the 2nd screen under that. Here you want to scroll down to the Aux channels and assign the switches you plan to use in Forward Programming. I assigned Switch G to Aux 2 and R Knob to Aux 3. My plan was Switch G would be for Flight Modes and R Knob would be to adjust the AS3X gains in flight. After the plane was completely set up and flyable I went into the Forward Programming and then I could see all my Aux channels when I was trying to assign the switches to the AS3X gains and Flight Modes. After talking with Horizon the following day they confirmed that you have to assign those switches BEFORE you start Forward Programming. The videos don't say anything about that so its easy to skip over it. Hope that solves your problem - good luck! If not, call HH tech support. I think I spoke with Shawn and he new exactly what I did wrong.

@@LivinTheDream-LV HA! I hadn't read your reply and I managed to just get this sorted and came here to let you know. I had a number of people at Horizon working on this and no one could sort it out! Just tried a last ditch attempt of building a new model from scratch and it works!!! Yes like you said I assigned my channels first. I guess I must have set up forward programming last time before I set up my proper channel sign and from there like you say it doesn't matter what you do it's too late. Will have to go back and copy all my settings over (I already had this plane flying perfectly with dual rates and expo etc), but that's easy enough. Can't wait to fly now!!!!!
