Going on this, i wonder how many Duelspirits where actually channeled through Moment. I doubt that every little Kid, or any given Worker who grabs their Deck to blow off some Steam during a Break would have a deep enough Connection to their Cards to attract Duel Spirits. Because if they did, Zero Reverse would have happened in Minutes to Hours, not Centuries

Counter argument. The duel monsters spirits from ancient Egypt were literally monsters that were the manifestation of the evil parts of human souls sealed in a stone tablet. It could be that shoving that many evil spirits into a sentient AI just drove it insane.

I assume that's irrelevant and all modern duel spirits and their worlds are both created with new cards or are made to have always existed like the four dimensions in Arc V.

Considering that populations have always been increasing it stands to reason that the newer spirits we see are simply the duel monsters born from people in the present hence why they take forms like that. I know Zexal is an AU timeline but if we think about what Yusei's goal was to prevent another Zero Reverse no less for the Momentum to one day gain sentience and view humanity as a threat; does that mean- Coming from a guy who knows little of science and all that, would the solution of "overlapping" or better term "Overlay" gears or a structure to both slow down but also fuel energy is what Yusei came up with? It would be interesting since Synchro and Xyz are similar to each other. They are the evolution of monsters but different. While Synchros need Tuners (Light Gears) to produce energy, then Xyz needing 2 monsters of the same Level would balance out the energy input and output. ... Would make so much more sense if Zexal was canon. Heck, it's possible this brings more problems like Chaos, unknown energy from the "Overlaying" so another method would be creating two balancing gears that "swing" the energy back and forth between each other. A "Pendulum" as you can call it... or the alternative could be "Linking" the energy of the Gears in a way to expel energy in a safe manner but providing the energy to help humanity aka "Co-Linking". SIGH... What could have been.

Kaiba probably DID realize that using living souls trapped in trading cards as batteries was worth the risk if it meant he would be able to make his card games look more epic. And since Kaiba Corp was behind Moment, it's possible that Kaiba just made sure Moment wouldn't do anything to work against that goal.

The sudden shift has always gotten me. The first two series up until 5ds had a heavy focus on magic, eldritch beings, spirits, God's and forces beyond human understanding and reach. Then the later half of 5ds and the series going forward ditched the magic in favour of aliens, dimension hopping and ai. Like it's not a bad thing per se. It's just baffling how it leapt from one extreme to the other. But that's not to say it was ever impossible. The duel monsters anime even if you call it filler had the virtual world arc which was all about a cyber world and dueling against uploaded consciousnesses and such. So it seems it's more like flipped from heavy magic with a dash of sci fi to heav sci fi with a dash of magic.

Hold up, when did you become a theoretical physicist? Genuinely cool science in this video, and it's so cool how intertwined 5Ds is with real science. I didn't even know scientists had actually succeeded in binding light particles together. That's especially cool. This is a great video, but man, the Kaiba slander is egregious. Kaiba likely didn't know that Synchro Summoning would have corrupted humanity to a point that they'd have just kept pushing Moment. Using monsters as batteries is definitely immoral, but the monsters never appeared to have a negative reaction to it at the time, nor ever until the creation of the Meklords. If anything, the introduction of Synchro monsters and their spirits seemed to be a net positive for the rest of the monster spirits thanks to cards like Ancient Fairy Dragon. Overall, the original form of Synchro Summoning from 5Ds only ever seemed to have a negative affect on people, and even then, only a small one that built up over time in a way that I definitely don't blame the guy for not considering, or possibly even noticing.

Just noticed this, but according to Yugipedia, the terms "Moment" and "Momentum" both mean the same thing in the Japanese dub, with the former sometimes being romanized as the latter.

It certainly could be that Moment wanted to preserve it's own existence by stopping Zero Reverse, but I think it's also equally possible that it wanted to end it's own existence. Think about it, it was made by forcing monster spirits to evolve over and over again. It's possible that Momentum was suffering. Possible that it wanted to end it's suffering by whatever means necessary.

they used the crimson dragon as a source ??? also bruno was told to stop synchro summoning in the og timeline Because it could cause something bad but it was already too late. last thing, there is a running theme in yugioh about the evil in human hearts, it's why the Meklords did not attack when fake Yusei had shooting star dragon as with clear mind you no longer have evil in your heart (best way i can explain) it's also why z-one wanted yusei to lean a new way to synchro and go above his limits also before i forget lol, no one knew about Duel spirits except for Ruka, since in the og timeline of arc-v they also did not know

With the Ash vs Yugi Death Battle possibly happening next year, I'd really like to get your take on how Yugi and other duelists battle outside of duels. When facing off against the Leviathan, it seemed they could summon whatever they want without any cost but trap cards and most spell cards seemed off-limits. Same when Kaiba threw down against Zorc. Do the Duel Disks basically make them summoning mages who don't have to worry about mana?
