I have seen some weird house rules, and formats, like 1) This was before the "Exiled" mechanic , any time a card was removed from the game you ripped up the card. 2) A twist on drafts was every one bought 1 pack and that was your deck, I don't remember haw land worked, It was single elimination and the winner of each match absorbed the losers deck in to there own.

Tactical creativity . . . very nice. I like the idea of using the cards as storytelling prompts, because not enough standard games involve goblins rummaging for bus fare to help out a soggy French ornithopter trying to get home. I do think they missed an opportunity for Francophile humor with that whole Turn To Frog card though. :}

There's a term for this that was coined by Yu-gi-oh. Silly Magic is playing with "Season 1 rules". Do you have a tall stone soldier? Great! He can reach up and smash the moon, destroying all fish on the field. It's right there in the manual.

For those who are unfamiliar with what Sean does besides hosting Spellslingers, He does a show called the "Day[9] Daily" where he analyses starcraft 2 Pro Matches. He does a hearthstone play, and a Lets Play on fridays. He is also working at Artillery Games on a Browser based RTS as a Designer. And he also does a bunch of events where he hosts and cast Starcraft 2. So please bear in mind all that when yelling for more videos of Spellslingers.

I've played a way that was more like Courtroom Magic. Similar to what they do with their explanation of "the frog can't overcome a mountain" or another one would be "a fireball going through the forest would burn all the forest." There would be a "judge" and each player would have their own time to explain their side. The judge would then rule and the game goes on. It's pretty fun :)

This reminded me a lot of the days when my friends and I would play a variant referred to as Chaos, where you could bring a deck of Magic Cards, and throw in cards from any other CCG as you pleased and just sort of wing it with the rules and make up hilarious stories as to why something was in the deck. So we'd have like battlemechs or pokemon alongside our Planeswalkers. It was pretty hilarious at times.

Any chance of seeing any special or casual game formats next season? Personally, I'd really like to see a rainbow game (I think it's officially called Star, Pentagram or Five-Point), where there are five players, each with a different mono-color deck, seated in a circle like on the back of the cards. Each player has two allies, who are beside them (so White would be allied with Blue and Green, for example), and a player wins once both of their opponents (so for White, it'd be Black and Red) are eliminated. I know that it would make for a much longer episode and would take much more time to produce, but I think having different types of matches in addition to the traditional 1v1s would be great for the show. Even doing a Two-headed Giant game (effectively a 2v2) would be good.

That's a really interesting idea. Because then each ally is also allied to your enemy. How the game plays out is very interesting.

Riley B I was thinking the same thing, having allies aligned with your enemy could make for some great backstabbing potential. I have a group of friends who I play with a couple times a week and I think I'm going to pitch this idea to them. I've only been playing for a couple weeks but I've found that one of the coolest things about Magic are all the variant game types people have come up with.

I too have a noob question. In official games are you only allowed to use cards from the a certain set number. For example, if i were to make a deck now for official games would I only be allowed to use cards from the M15 set? Or am I allowed to throw any cards from older sets, say an M13 card?

Also me and a friend used to play commander MTG, i don't know if anyone else even knows what it is but it was a 100 card deck, and you had one master creature you could play at any time if you had the mana, down side was if it died you lost.

I'm new to MTG so excuse this noob question, but I have noticed that each episode they spin to see what deck they use. When the arrow lands they seem to name each deck like this was the French deck for the colors. My question is: Do all deck types have specific names to them?

Allie says her frog is a 7/7 because that's how big Sean said a frog would be, but if you want to get technicaly, Sean just said it would be "about 7". So her frog should technically be a 7. Not 7 power, or 7 toughness. It's just 7. You know...just 7. Trust me, I'm the Silly Magic Rules Manager.
