Spencer repeaters are one of the most widely used and popular Civil War firearms, and can come in a range of conditions. Many will see a Spencer in good condition, but few will see one in the best condition or even elite condition.
Let’s take a look at some of these classic rifles as we continue our series on gun conditions with Spencer repeating rifles.

I may sound strange saying this. I prefer my guns to be a little beat up. About mid-grade-ish. I like this because the firearm has lived a life and has history. Not just sat in a case or safe its whole life... But thats just me

In aesthetics, Spencer rifle is my pick. Carbine is good for convenience, handiness, good cavalry weapon, but rifle has better accuracy and range, and looks.

Great topic! Well done - especially selecting multiple examples if the same (nearly) firearm for comparison. Here Is a question though. In talking about fit and whether the wood or metal is proud, I have been taught when evaluating firearms to be on the lookout for metal that is proud of the wood as an indication that the furniture might have been sanded and refinished. Following that thinking, I was taught that a premium example condition wise will often have the wood slightly proud to the metal because that is the way it was issued when new. If a mint condition firearm is highly valued because the wood to metal fit is flush or nearly so, how would a firearm in use over time end up with the wood proud to the metal? Please set me straight.

Great vid , and very informative! Joel, I appreciate how you always wear gloves and show these great and historic firearms the respect that they deserve. Do you ever get any of the Blakeslee cartridge boxes? For the sake of readers who may not know what they were, the Blakeslee held loaded tubes for the Spencer carbines and rifles, which really improved sustained fire. (I know that you know what they are).
