It will disable my defibrillator. so I wonder how that would go for me. I once landed without my seatbelt on - not sure how, I'm usually really good about keeping it on in my seat, but I fell asleep without it on and the flight attendants didn't notice and I woke up from the pain in my ankle as we landed! I've never had a problem with getting help with bags - often they'll put my small bag in the overhead lockers even on a flight where they say you can't, this really helps my comfort seen as I do have legs! My main issue with travelling as a disabled person is having assistance I don't need forced upon me. I once arrived in Miami and there was no one in immigration as they had been so slow getting me off the plane and I declined the help offered and the immigration guy said "I didn't know you were allowed to be here by yourself"! The issue is some airports you really can't get through the regular way so you do have to accept the help and if I don't speak the language this can get tricky. Schipol (Amsterdam) they really really don't want you do go alone, but it's completely possible, but I'm getting really fed up of having that argument. The worst is when they fail to return the wheelchair at gate, despite the labels, fortunately that's only happened twice, but most helpers don't seem to get that people can't always sit easily or pain free on a random seat whether it be on a buggy or wheelchair. The one time it happened at Gatwick they were very apologetic, it was an accident etc. but Abu Dhabi said it was policy - I won't be going there again.

My daughter doesn't want to fly. She is a wheelchair user and doesnt like when people stare at her- which they do all the time- and doesn't want to have people pushing her in the " aisle chair". Oh, and she can't use the bathroom- no way to get in to it. Then there is the pat down- she has medical devices... any suggestions for her? She is 21.

Honestly, I agree that she probably shouldn't unless she absolutely has to for some reason. It's just too much to deal with. Nobody wants to have to.wear a diaper on a plane or try to explain medical devises to TSA during a pat down with them being suspicious of you just for having something on your person that they don't understand or having to go in an aisle chair where everyone can see you or whatever else she deals with when flying so if she doesn't want to fly don't make her

Not having to worry about the crappy legroom in coach is a huge pro. Also, not having to get out of your aisle seat to let the person in the middle or the window seat get out is also a pro. Tip. For instance, you once elevated up the side of Mount Kilimanjaro - with no real technology involved! I’m surprised that they don’t have some loop that goes over the chair back and has a under the pits chest strap with a front seatbelt release as I asume that would be a lot more effective then a lap belt on a lapless person. Is it wrong that I’m just imagining everyone is just queuing to get off the plane then you put one each side and using the open overhead compartments make your way over the top of everyone. I know health and safety would say no but still.

Hi Spencer! How do you navigate the disgusting, pitifully small outhouses on planes? I once went into a plane bathroom completely fresh and clean, only to exit realizing that I had stepped in some hidden fecal matter which had been camouflaged on the dark grey floor. Wiped off as much as I could, but spent the rest of the flight smelling like someone else’s shit and fighting off an anxiety attack related to the contaminated shoe at the end of my leg. I can’t imagine having that contamination on my body or hands. How do you get in and out without having to touch the floor?
