SPEND THE DAY WOTH ME, CAR VLOG, TESCO SHOP, MAKING SODA BREAD, Recipe in description below. 🍁

Hi Everyone, it’s been a bits and bobs kinda day, so I thought I’d share it with you. I hope you enjoy, and if you would like to make the Irish soda bread, the recipe is below.
400 grams of flour of choice.
Pinch of salt.
1 x teaspoon of Bicarbonate of soda.
Approx 250 ml of buttermilk.
Preheat oven to 200 degrees centigrade or 180 if fan assisted.
Sift flour, salt and soda into a large bowl.
Add most of the buttermilk and mix till the ingredients form a soft ball. Add more buttermilk if needed. If it’s too sticky, add a little more flour.
Form the bread into a round on a lined baking tray. Cut a cross with a knife all the way through.
Place in the centre of the oven and bake for between 35-40 mins. Keep watching towards the end, if it looks risen and browned, take it out, turn it upside down, and tap the bottom, if it sounds hollow it’s baked all the way through.
Allow to cool and enjoy.

Great seeing you making and enjoying the bread. In Northern Ireland we call that Wheaten Bread. Traditional Soda bread is just made with white flour (plain flour is fine) baking soda and a little salt. My late mum made soda and wheaten bread every week, usually she used a cake tin and sometimes rolled the mixture out to a round and cut it in 4 to make farls and cooked them on a griddle. Soda is such a quick and easy bread to make and you can vary it by adding grated cheese and some dried herbs- lovely with soup or instead add a couple of ounces of sugar and a handful of sultanas.

I grew up on this bread. Mum used to make it all the time. We never had shop bread! She used to put a clean tea towel over it as soon as it came out of the oven to keep the crust a bit softer.

Lovely vlog Lynn. I don't understand why people couldn't hear you in the car. I never had a problem, perhaps just had to turn my volume up a bit. I have problems with bread as well. I heard Sourdough bread can help because it doesn't contain commercial grade yeast. I tried it and it did help but personally I found it fine toasted but it wasn't great as a sandwich. I think I will try soda bread because in the winter we nearly always have home made soup for lunch. Love it.Thank you for showing us.❤

Hi beautiful friend, How did your hearing test go? I hope it all checked out OK. I've never made soda bread. I had no idea it would be so easy to make. So, how did your tummy do? I know I can't eat regular bread because it doesn't agree with my tummy at all. I'm not allergic to gluten, but my stomach is sensitive to it, and it doesn't like it. So I stay away from it, unless I want a lot of pain, which I don't. LOL, I have no problem with coconut flour or almond flour, just regular flour. Boy, Ida is sure going to have a feast this weekend. Haha. She's just the cutest. I need to do a few errands tomorrow, so I hope the weather holds up. I am going to get it done early to avoid all the crowds. If I don't go tomorrow, I'll have to wait till Monday, because I just won't go out on the weekend. Too many crowds. What did you end up making for supper with the soda bread? Tell Joann hi for me. That had to be so scary for you and the kids with that strong wind. One of the hurricanes we were in, when I was around 8, we were staying in what was supposed to be a very secure building. Ended up, the whole roof blew completely off, and there was nothing we could do about it. I remember crying my eyes out, thinking we were all going to die. I told Donald, I would love to move away from here to somewhere that doesn't have hurricanes or tornadoes. So tired of going through this every year. I sure wish it would start cooling-off down here. I am so ready for cooler weather. Can't wait to see what you got at Temu. I had a 50 dollar credit with them, so I just made an order the other day. One thing I ordered was some really cute pajamas for when the cooler weather gets here. They were only around 6 dollars. I hope they are nice. If they are, I will probably order a couple more pairs in different colors. This will be the first year we have central heat. We haven't had it for about 7 or 8 years now. All we used were space heaters in every room. So it will be nice not to have to use them this year, except in the bathroom. I've got to have the bathroom nice and warm when I take a shower. Hello beautiful. The hearing test was fine, no problems at all. Oh try the soda bread Donna, it’s so easy and so tasty. I’ve eaten it on 3 separate days, and no tummy upset, and Jo had some, and her tummy was fine as well. I think I may be sensitive gluten, and to the yeast as well, so if I can tolerate this bread, maybe you might be able to. Worth a try I think. A lady said that if you want to add sugar and fruit, you can have it like a fruit loaf, that’s not my thing, but I may add some seeds next time. I’m so looking forward to having her for the sleepover, and usually it will be all the day after, her parents will have hangovers hahaha. The weather here is sunny today, but apparently we’re getting rain next week, so I knew it wouldn’t last, but I’m not complaining, have you seen the poor people abroad, what they’ve had to deal with in different parts of this strange world, it’s heartbreaking to say the least. I just ate the bread with butter that day, but the day after I had it toasted with boiled eggs for brunch, and then I just keep cutting a slice and putting butter on, it’s delish. I honestly don’t know how you cope with it, I definitely wouldn’t be able to live with that kind of weather, year after year, nooooooo. Well the 1st Temu order was autumn themed, and the 2nd Christmas, so they will be coming up soon. You can’t beat a nice pair of pjs can you, you’ll have to let me know if you like them, I may order some slippers, I love Temu slippers. I may think about a towel warmer when we redo our bathroom, it gets freezing here in winter, we have underfloor heating downstairs, but radiators upstairs, and it can get so cold up there sometimes, we have to be so careful with the prices of the gas and electric here in the UK, it’s going up again in October, and the government have taken the winter fuel allowance away from pensioners, so some people will freeze to death, it’s disgusting. Hi Lynn, I used to make soda bread ocassionalu for my husband, he loved it and so easy. Got myself a new phone last week, and had to buy a new lead. Apparently they are different fittings now. I love brown soda bread,but I think your whole wheat flour is a bit different than ours,it’s darker in color,and I have never been able to get my loaves as crunchy as yours.Raisins are common in soda bread here,and it’s very popular,as you know a lot of American/Irish in New York,I worked with a 4th generation American Irishman,and a more Irish person you couldn’t find,he has all the stereotypical traits of an Irishman,the sad songs,poetry,loves wet,cold,windy weather,a good night in a bar,you get the idea.I wonder how long it takes for those traits to leave your DNA,because I believe it’s in there.❤😊❤

Stop it Janet, you’re a professional lol. I’m thinking I might add some seeds and grains to make it more healthy, but so far it hasn’t upset my tummy, so I’m reluctant to mess around with it. I had it toasted yesterday with a couple of boiled eggs for brunch, so nice. Well my grandma on my dad’s side was Irish, so I have Irish blood in me, and I have the traits, except for the wet and windy weather lol. My grandad on my mums side was Welsh, so I’m a mixture lol. ❤️❤️❤️

Yes it’s lovely Sandra, and you can make your own buttermilk by adding either a tbsp of vinegar or lemon juice to ordinary milk, and leave it to stand for about half hour, same thing. I’m a bit nervous about it but intrigued how it will be received by everyone. Aw we will have fun for sure ❤️❤️❤️

Lovely vlog especially the easy soda bread! Isn’t it annoying when you have to buy new leads etc for iPhones! Why did they change it!!! Marketing ploy… I had to buy 2 one for car & one for home, now they’re asking if I want to go on waiting list for iPhone 16, no chance, oh keep buying the wrong chocolate rice cakes, tasted like cardboard but only 35 calories 😂😂xx

If you add seeds or whatever that’ll be fine. Just whatever you fancy. I made a soda bread a while back with some sugar added along with chopped dried apricots and chopped walnuts. It was lovely and delicious toasted.
