In the US I have never had beans ON toast for breakast or anythime, really. Definintely a British thing. I read in a historical novel that it was what the common people ate in Britain, The Nobility ate the traditional breakfast prepared by the Cook and laid out by the servants in the dinng room and kept warm, for the family to dish up thier own plates when they chose to come to breakfast. In the US, canned “Pork and beans was a staple for picnics and and camping trips. We would open a can of beans, set it near the campfire to heat, or eat cold. with potato salad..yes, yummy with potato salad or BBQ ribs.

My Sympathy was with Kirsten through out the whole experiment! i can’t begin to imagine that anything called “Marmite”, paste made with yeast could be edible. The seaweed spread,, if it was similar in taste to dried seaweed (Nori) might be OK. However it was educational. I learned that the food item called a “Butty” was a Bun, like a dinner roll, large and soft. I hope i got that right The Tv coverage of the Royal Wedding mentioned that . Prince William ordered a large quantity of “Bacon Butty’s” for his Bachelor party. Those must have been wonderful.. i bet Jorge would enjoy a bacon butty. the whole episode was so much fun to watch. Thank you both for being such good sports. from 🇺🇸.💕

This was hilarious ! You were really taking one for the team !!!! As a born & bred Brit I totally agree with your opinion on pickled eggs & onions & marmite. Beans on toast is definitely comfort food. Btw, you can't really make a decent chip butty with oven chips(too dry) as they need to be good & greasy ; ) & branston pickle shouldn't be heated. It's a cold condiment that you can add to a welsh rarebit after it's grilled or to put in a ham or cheese sandwich . Well done anywayfor trying this all out. I'm looking forward to you making steak & kidney pudding with treacle pudding & custard for dessert for a real carbfest although I too prefer strawberry tarte 😂😂😂

@lafranglaise3399
@lafranglaise3399 5 сағат бұрын
@@robynemme2458 In fact it's called jam roly-poly & is suet pudding, a pastry made with flour, water & suet, (the fat found around kidneys). The suet pastry is flattened jam is spread in the middle & the pastry is rolled. The pudding is then steamed. It sounds pretty disgusting but homemade suet puddings are light & fluffy & with a tangy not to sweet jam this dessert is delish. However, you can't buy this in bakers as it doesn't keep well. ; )

We're impressed that you did this! Your reactions were the best to watch. And at times we were cringing over the sounds of the food or the sight of so much butter! Thankfully you ending with your delicious looking homemade strawberry cake and great attitudes was wonderful! Thanks again for another enjoyable time. Keep trying more British foods!❤

Hilarious! Beans on toast is a light lunch or quick tea, cheese and branston pickle on a sandwich for lunch is good. A chip butty is home made chips or chip shop chips not oven chips on sliced bread and less butter. I’m not a fan of pickled eggs or marmite, but a sliced pickled onion on a grated cheddar cheese sandwich is lovely 😂👍🏻

Yeah, most of the stuff would have been ok in a context or eaten as the natives do. I've never understood why beans on toast should be considered intrinsically unappealing to all but the initiated Brits--beans on some form of bread are classic and universal around the world and usually accompanied by onions or some form of pickle (Indian and Mexcian food are famous for this) and classic baked beans are flavored with mustard, ketchup, molasses.

That was hilarious! The rolypoly pudding definitely needs custard (not had it in years but my mother’s was delicious), and chip butties need sliced white bread and fish shop chips…..and probably a beer induced hunger😅. I’m with you all the way with the pickled eggs……and I’m amazed you had never done beans on toast as a quick and filling meal, a standby for the occasions when you’ve been caught in traffic, got soaked on the way home and all other similar disasters!

Marmite needs to be very thinly applied, nice on toast with beans or melted cheese. Branston pickle nice in a cheese sandwich, or with a ploughman's lunch.

Fun video! I like to try British foods that I see on British TV shows, like jelly babies from Dr. Who, and cheese and pickle sandwiches from As Time Goes By. I put a smear of marmite on buttered toast and add a fried egg on top and sometimes a slice of cheese and avocado. I make a mild pickled egg by adding boiled eggs to leftover German pickle juice. Over here we get Hengstenberg or Gundelsheim. Love from Florida!💖

I have always been a pickley and briney/salty kinda gal myself. It can make someone’s eyes water just watching them eat that kind of stuff. On the other hand…. My late mom LOVED all things sweet. I think I love it all… MOST of the time. Joerg had a Ham and mustard sandwich some time back… and I LOVE that instead of Mayo. Anyhooo, All in good food fun and THX for your videos , as always. ☮️☮️☮️☮️❤️❤️❤️

The Roly Poly looks like what we Americans call a cinnamon roll. One difference is we don't cook it with jam in the pan. Maybe spread with jam before it is rolled and cut.
