Josie I am T1D so wear a cgm and a insulin delivery device all the time, anything that you eat that has a high fat content good or bad fats..Will slow down the sugar absorption as your body will break down the fat first.. so the sugar spike can happen 2-4 hours later. Also remember your smoothies etc will spike you but doesn't mean its bad for you, you have a fully functioning pancreas so it knows what to do with the sugars in your system and will release the correct insulin for you.

I heard you say about the glucose meter and comment about not taking it away from people who need it to control their diabetes , but this latest fad is taking it away from them as the sellers will realise they can get more money and put the prices up thus taking it away from the NHS price scoping

Completely agree. People will think that this fad should be done. Influencers should not be promoting fads about medical devices when they don’t have the medical condition for which the device is needed. It was also obvious at the end of the video Josie doesn’t have the knowledge about how and when blood sugar normally spikes after food and different food glucose levels.

Plus not everyone who is entitled to one on the NHS can get one in all areas of the country due to funding yet the same company abbot are selling them to influencers and into Zoe kits
@susanmullen945 ай бұрын
I would really think about listening exclusively to the glucose goddess, she cherry picks a lot of science in her book. If you want to, Abbey Sharpe (a Registered Dietitian) gives a good review as to why a lot of her advice is not accurate on her youtube channel. Remember she is a bio chemist not a dietitian. It's completely unnecessary for a young, fit and healthy person such as yourself to wear a CGM. Even someone who hasn't had an eating order can become obsessed with it. You must know it's perfectly natural for your blood sugar to rise a fall throughout the day. Normally I wouldn't say anything, but this is something I feel strongly about, there is also currently very little evidence to suggest that using a CGM is helpful for an already healthy person. Just because we can measure something doesn't mean we need to or even should. Still love your vlogs Josie, but I would just think more cautiously about this. 💛

Fantastic advice, unfortunately it seems to be an influencer trend to jump on the nonsense “wellness” bandwagon. Peddling expensive supplements, diets etc to the middle class worried well.
@chereeriggs76715 ай бұрын
I 100% agree with u. If one is interested in nutrition, then take a few nutrition courses. Reading a trendy book or clickbait posts just capitalizes on their shocking claims. Most people don’t know much about nutritional science or how their bodies function so it’s easy to take advantage of them. The “health & wellness” industry is out of control
@waterRuby75 ай бұрын
Abbey Sharpe is the worst “dietitian” click bait driven influencer on the internet. Blood sugar fluctuating slightly is fine. Big spikes and drops are not. You’ve been conditioned to believe the standard western diet is healthy. It’s not. I know it feels more acceptable to encourage it- but there are countless pieces of science literature I can suggest, that aren’t paid for by drug and food corporations. It’s a journey.
@LouiseNicholls-er5hy5 ай бұрын
Extremely well put. As a type 1 diabetic myself who relies on this technology to survive, normal healthy people are completely misunderstanding their blood sugars and that if they come down after a spike that shows their body is working well - it’s not meant to be a flat line! Also why does no one see that all these pharmaceuticals are laughing all the way to the bank. People who don’t need this technology are paying over the odds for it
@susanmullen945 ай бұрын
@@LouiseNicholls-er5hy Completely agree, it's nothing more than a marketing ploy in my opinion designed to get people to spend money on something they don't need, the same as a lot of these 'wellness' brands.
@anitaanderson23265 ай бұрын
There is no need for non diabetics to wear a continuous glucose monitor. They last only two weeks, cost more money than most ordinary people can afford, most insurance companies don’t even cover the cost of them for diabetics and they are not as accurate as finger blood pricks. I am a diabetic and have worn them since the beginning of January and know that finger blood pricks are more accurate. I still do comparison of my glucose levels with the continuous glucose monitor and my finger prick.If you really want to know your accurate blood glucose levels do a finger prick before you eat a meal and two hours afterwards. Continuous glucose monitors measure glucose in the interstitial fluid not the blood so they are playing catch up with your blood. Another issue with the continuous glucose monitors is they often fall off when you swim and then your money is wasted. I’m swimming regularly and know the monitor isn’t suppose to go below 3 feet of water which is pretty hard to do. Bottom line, it’s a waste of money for ordinary people and not affordable for many diabetics.
@sue4885 ай бұрын
I couldn't agree more - nothing more accurate than the finger blood prick before meals as you say. This kind of thing can actually cause more harm than good if people start taking too much notice of it and eating accordingly.
@simonjones635 ай бұрын
Completely agree. Creating a population with catastrophising thoughts....What amazes me is the spin that Tim Specter has placed on this. Selling CGM's and endorsing them is farcical. Once a highly respected scientist whose research I actually used for my Masters.. Now completely sold out to the masses selling this stuff.

I was in the Zoe FB group and people were obsessed with their readings..and tweaking what they ate…but in a healthy body raises glucose after a meal is normal. So take care this doesn’t take over your life.

This is my experience as a women's nutrition and fertility coach. I prefer to do the HBA1C blood test for an accurate reflection of blood glucose levels over a 3 month period, rather than monitor minute by minute, hour by hour. Still, it's useful to see the way food affects us, but it's definitely not necessary for long term monitoring as it can get quite obsessive/perfectionistic. which is actually quite stressful.

A true diabetic needs to use this everyday in order to monitor their glucose levers. Someone who is not diabetic and is not working with an Endocrinologist does not understand the science and should not be using it. There are more countries in the world other than UK. If people that don't have diabetes are willing to pay a lot of money for this kind of products, it means that the companies would rather sell the products to those who are willing to pay more. The people living in poverty are the ones who suffer the most since they can't afford medication. If you fall asleep on the train, then you are probably just tired.

Unfortunately there are an awful lot of people who are pre-diabetic and don’t know it. Why wait until you are diagnosed as being diabetic to use a CGM. A CGM can help prevent the disease by showing one where making certain lifestyle and dietary changes could turn their life around. This could possibly help lower diabetes rates all over the world if people are to prevent it in the first place. We need to think prevention rather than reaction to disease.

We used to use copper and a couple gallons of bleach once a week in our swimming pool and it was crystal clear and the ph was always perfect. Farmers here drag copper around in their ponds. I used to purchase from a farmer’s supply. I realize now that you can purchase from Amazon. I'm so excited to follow your journey with the glucose monitor and see what you discover. As a health coach and nutritionist, I really love testing as a way to monitor general health and make improvements. I've recently done a blood test of 51 health bio markers that I feel every woman should have annually and had full abdominal CT scan (not recommended as standard due to radiation, I'm monitoring a health issue, that I've put into remission) and also had thermography, a safer alternative to mammography for early detection of breast tissue abnormalities. I'm in two minds about glucose monitors, because as you so rightly point out, it can create a bit of an obsession and trying to be 'perfect' when actually blood sugars do normally rise and fall. Also, the HBA1C blood glucose test reflects average glucose levels over a 3 month period to give you an accurate reading which is excellent alone. Also, I notice so much in my work that it's mostly processed foods and refined carbs that are the biggest culprits of blood sugar issues, so when you eat close to nature, you rarely go wrong! Excited to hear more, thanks for sharing!
