Hannah, stack your wood away from the side of the garage. Ours rotted at the bottom due to moisture and not drying out. Maybe get some pallets and make a wood rack then you can put sides and back on it and tarp it.

Hi Hannah, love your videos! I just wanted to pop in here and let you know that the woody debris in the creek provides shade and cover to the fish in the creek. Overtime it creates more habitat as the water finds ways around it. It can scour nice pools downstream of the jam which are great for feeding and overwintering fish! In this case, the messier the better. :) The vegetation growing along the banks also act as a buffer, preventing erosion and runoff. I hope that you put up a silt screen (temporarily) and plant native plants where the soil is bare to avoid erosion and sedimentation, maintaining water quality. You have a beautiful property and I hope that this comment helps you continue to be a good steward of the land, taking care of the critters that share it with you :)

Oh no, Hannah! Did you know that you have Japanese knotweed on your property? It is unmistakable to me at this point, I spotted it at 22:20. It's the tall stuff with the little white flowers that kind of looks like bamboo with big leaves. I don't want to alarm you, but you should take every measure you can to make it go dormant or it will literally take over your entire yard in a few short years. The best way without using harsh chemicals is to cut it at ground level every couple weeks for a year or two until it goes dormant. Burn the offcuts once they dry out, but step on them first to crush the air pockets open otherwise they'll sound like gunfire when they pop over the fire xD. Your town might have recommendations and even programs to help remove it. It is HIGHLY invasive and any cut knotweed needs to be handled like biohazardous waste. The good news is that the big juicy stems are edible and even really good for you. They're best when they're young and tender (the older ones need to be peeled) and they make great pickles. Good luck and I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news! Great video as always

As always, so inspiring to watch hannah! Tip from a farmer: not tilling the soil will help keep your soil healthy and full of organic material and microbes/insects/fungi that are great for your plants! A great no-till hand tool that you could get, and easily use in your garden, would be a broadfork. It loosens the soil so its easier to plant in, but doesn't kill the soil microbiome or destroy soil structure. Otherwise that hand-tiller you got works great and looks fun!

Aww, I just love how it’s been about making your house your home and now the fire pit alongside hearing that babbling brook pond will be your new piece of heaven. And just a suggestion, I’d line the bottom of your fire pit with brick or rocks too if you can because lots of times, fire can catch and travel through the ground via roots during extreme droughts. So glad you finally have it, yayyy, it’s the cherry on top! Thanks for sharing your journeys with us, you’re always such an inspiration. 🙏❤️👋🇨🇦

You are such a hard worker! I honestly don't know anyone with so much drive and motivation to get things done. The wide range of skills you've mostly taught yourself is truly amazing! Your projects are getting more and more complex it seems. Do you think you'll ever just build yourself a new house? (With help of course.) Your homes are beautiful but imagine having a brand new house with no plumbing or roof issues, etc. So your efforts can be entirely spent on making it beautiful, cozy, and fun. You can help design it yourself so the layout is exactly how you want it. How about a game room with life-size Chess/Checkers pieces you have to move around, Connect 4, Corn Hole, etc. Like an indoor backyard for the lingering winter months. Have you ever been in a house with an outdoor atrium inside the house? I have and it was really cool! Okay, I'm rambling, Bye! 😊

If you keep your wood piled against the shed wall, you're inviting critters into a place where they can burrow and potentially dig into or under your shed. Best thing is to single wall stack your wood between two trees. Your wood will still season.

Vol 2 is beautifully designed. Best wishes for your future creative ideas. Just something to think about...turning the soil in the fall exposes microorganisms to the harsh winter conditions where they have lower survival rates. There are studies that show that tilling in the spring will make veggies more nutrient dense. Compliments to your yard and garden designs.

Love the thumbnail picture, it reminded me of some of the photos I helped Richard Avedon shoot as he was re-exploring old ideas. He was my first photography mentor, and I assisted with some of his photo shoots in the late 1970s and early 1980s. I was never one of his official assistants. By the time I was legal to hire, I was already well off on my own surrealist direction. Koi are fun, and will get huge if they have the food and space. I had fish tanks for many years. In a 200 gallon one, I had 12" to 16" koi. When I bought them they were only 3" to 4" long. Too keep a healthy tank, I seeded my under gravel bio filters with local river gravel. I only washed the river gravel in tap water to get rid of the silt. That left whatever bacteria that was normal in the area alive and clinging to the gravel. It then seeded the under gravel filter.

But I was lucky enough to be able to climb my way out before losing consciousness. Ihope your koi don’t eat your goldfish when they get big!

Fallen trees help to dam the river a little and that slows the water and creates moisture in the surrounding landscape. This is more important in places with less rainfall. The "blockages" force the water out into the soil nearby and you have a more lush environment. The also filter the water.
