As a fellow Southerner I am laughing so much over Nate saying "Necked" instead of naked. As my generation has always said "necked" means you have no clothes on and are up to something. Naked is simply being without clothes. It's not what Nate means here, but I keep laughing. Nate has traveled all over the world and, yet, has maintained his Tennessee way of speaking. Adorable. - Thank you for your Vlog!!

Friendly advice from someone who has been fortunate enough to travel a lot (21 countries): Do it as soon as you can with time off from work (after all this coronavirus nonsense ends). Many people save it all for retirement, but you never know what the future holds, and sometimes people aren't healthy enough by that time to travel. Carpe diem! As Kara and Nate show, you don't have to be rich either, just make it a priority.

I loved the jjimjilbangs when I lived in Seoul! I remember my friend and I would sit in the hot tub and "stare" at the women showering for and hour and wondering what they were doing that they would be sitting there washing for so long. You have to get scrubbed by the ajumas/agashis! It's the best! You come out so smooth it is absolutely amazeballs Each spa is different but Dragon hill (where they went) actually has a dedicated sleep room with like bunkbeds. Whole families go together and just spend the whole day there. There's also a couple of actual little restaurants at dragonhill that very tasty.

I love jjimjilbangs my wife and I lived in korea last year and I would go all of the time. Most families will go several times a week and help each other scrub off the dead skin layer. My favorite part was the saunas but I never really found them too be that hot or that cold maybe I have a higher tolerance then you np though. My wife and I tried to film in one in the communal areas for our vlog but for the most part everyone is quiet and we felt we were being to loud so we stopped. On the weekends I would try to spend about 8 hours there as they totally reset my body I really miss not living in korea. Traveling the world will have to do though. Go to jeju island if you can you have not experienced korea till you go to jeju

@CableFlame4 жыл бұрын
@@sgcl10658 So I used to frequent a Korean spa in the US. They did have clocks to tell time, but I found that without my glasses (in the bade pool area), they were a bit too small to read the time unless I was close to it. From across the room, it was a lot of squinting & guessing. (Of course, that's probably just the spa I went to.)

I was born in Seoul Korea and came to the U.S when I was 8 in 1976. We didn't have plumbing in our home so I remember going to the public spas few times a week to "wash" up, which meant vigorous scrubbing all the dry skin off. I remember my mom used to scrub me so hard my skin would be red but I felt so clean and fresh after. I would love to go back and visit the new modern spas. Thanks for sharing.

before Korean spas became a modern more touristy spa there were public community spas or "baths" that people would clean themselves in. Being naked is not weird or unusual for Koreans and everyone goes just to clean themselves with their family and we are all a community so no awkwardness. I know it seems unusual but that is the culture there, both my parents were born in Korea and went to those as kids, I was born in America though so I am not used to that and also find it a bit odd but only because being naked is quite taboo in America and that is what I was born around. I even do the traditional like full body dead skin scrubbing thing and it is quite satisfying to strip all the dead skin off.

I too visited a Korean bath house in 2012 after a pilgrimage to Cheong pyeong Heaven and Earth training Center - met up with our Rev. Kim from Boston and after eating Korean food went to this Jimilbang first showered then in the sauna - could have sworn the hairs on my arm were about to ignite ha ha! So I went to a pull chain shower and saw steam coming off my body! I saw one guy getting exfoliated but not for me. We slept on wooden bunk type beds - this old Korean man laid in the bunk next to me and was staring at me - I then thought it best to move ha ha! In comparison wasn't as fancy as ya'lls but a good experience just the same.

Here in LA, we call it "The Naked Lady Spa"! Seriously my FAVORITE way to spend a Saturday. I would show up when they opened at 10 am and stay there ALL day long. It's $25 for the 'general grotto' area (it's extra $ for the extra services like the massages and scrub-downs...but those are SUPER spendy, so I don't schedule them) and I just bounce from room to room with the cold dip in between for hours on end, with little naps on the far-infrared floors (usually marble or jade floors with far-infrared heat, which induces health, detox and REALLY makes you tired enough for this 'non-day-napper' to take a few winks). Then, when you are hungry, the Korean cafe has DELISH food! But here in LA, that's a pretty penny, but totally worth it. It's fun to be able to eat at a restaurant, but with a towel on your head, all relaxed, half-naked in your robe :-)
@hannahbouman57962 жыл бұрын
In Asian culture it's really normal to sleep on the tile. Most of the local houses don't have beds and they sleep on the floor. That's why everybody is sleeping on the tile in the spa

It's interesting hearing about the comfort level of all the "nekkid" (Nate 😄) folks in some of these spas. As a 60-year-old, I remember all of the wide-open showers and locker rooms of my youth. We didn't really think twice about it. Now, a few decades later, everything is very private and subdivided. I understand concerns about predators, etc., but I can't help feeling that in the U.S. we've become much more anxious and self-conscious over the last few decades.

It’s really cheap, the one we go to, and we spend the day so we get our money’s worth. The one I go to is a tad less traditional. Everything is the same except the pools. The one I go to has massaging jets of different intensities scattered around the pool with seats and loungers built into the pool. They do have hot pools and cold ones but the main pool is different.
