Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married 2013 and were super “normal.” I was a teacher and Nate started a small printing business from the spare bedroom of our apartment.
We discovered the world of “travel hacking” while planning our honeymoon & became addicted ;)
So after 2 years of obsessively saving $35k and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016 for a “one year” trip around the world.
Our goal was to see as many places as possible before we ran out of money and went back home to “normal life.” We started this travel vlog to share our experiences with friends and family, but quickly fell in love with living on the road and found a new passion for capturing our travels through video. So we did everything we could to keep going.
4 years later, we achieved our new goal of visiting 100 countries and all 7 continents. We had no plans to slow down, until 2020 forced us to ;) Which is when we bought a converted van to start exploring our own country for the first time.
After ~2 years of van life, we are back to full time international traveling! And now we are finding the best adventures the world has to offer :)
We are incredibly grateful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. 😊🎥🌎 Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our journey!

Mama’s laugh is so comforting and just seeing how happy kara was with her is so heart warming because they “barely” know each other and they just connected instantly it’s awesome and amazing too see💓💓

Appreciate this quality about them as well. After all, it’s ALL on offer in Life on this planet - to experience various types of abundance - that of first class seats on an airplane to that of a private, curated space in this families home in the jungle of Indonesia. That they do it so well and take us along is fantastic. 💕🙏🏼

Living out here in the Mentawai Islands, we know the struggles indigenous Mentawai people go through to keep their traditional way of living. Many young people here have forgotten why their ancestral knowledge is important and worth preserving. But your video perfectly showed the value of traditional life and hopefully it helps the locals (and especially the younger generation) to see that too! What a beautiful and inspiring video you guys made!

I love to see your perspective! I live so far from this life that I worry that tourists could ruin things. I trust Kara and Nate more than anyone else to be grateful and respectful but you just never know… until someone close to the community comments. I’m glad! Thanks for sharing.

One of the things that I always see in the videos is that Nate ALWAYS, it doesn't matter where they are, always tries to make coffee for Kara, I think during their stay in an island surviving in the middle of the ocean he still tried to make coffee. I aspire to be as Nate one day.

This is why Kara and Nate make such amazing videos, one week they can be eating caviar on a plane and the next eating live grubs in the jungle. The best part is they are up for any and all challenges and are so happy and interested in learning and teaching us about other cultures. Thank you!🙏❤️

It’s awesome watching Kara continue to grow as a person as she tackles these new challenges and experiences head on confidently. From the night scuba diving in Thailand, to the Alcatraz swim in SF, to the Monkey Run in Peru, and now living with a remote tribe. Absolutely adore and proud of this girl! ❤️

The way Kara and Nate were able to almost step back into time and give an insight into how tribes lived 2,000 years ago and still today is amazing! They're a couple who live in the 21st century who are extremely tech-savvy, yet they were able to create a refreshing, eye-opening yet educational vlog! I'm always excited when Kara and Nate post a video as I have been watching since 2018 and their videos are so different from any other travel youtubers I watch. Well done and keep up the good work! Can't wait to see where you guys go next!

Nate and Kara, thank you for coming to my country Indonesia and my hometown Sumatera. I was wondering when you will come back and have an adventure in one of our hundred thousand tribes here in Indonesia. So glad you visited Mentawai, beautiful tribe with beautiful people and off course the green wilds and delicious Sumateran coffee, you have my respect for making this video nice, informative yet entertaining. I watch your videos as my dream to visit the places have been fulfilled by you guys. Your journeys accompanied me through out the pandemic era and I'm so glad I bumped into your content and never stop ever since. By the way, Nate looked handsome in that Mentawai traditional costume, and Kara with her smile always makes my day. Can't wait for the next trip, 😊

Love it, I'm from Aotearoa (New Zealand) and our Tupuna (Ancestors) lived like this but we live our lives as a western society generation but the hard labour and living off the land makes me appreciate what they did for us to live a easy life. We still instill our traditional lifestyle but as a western society. This is amazing. We call them huhu grubs in Aotearoa and they taste like peanut butter

When I first opened this video, I was doubtful that the tribe can speak Indonesian, let alone English, but in fact, they are fluent in both! You have opened me to a part of my country that I have never thought about and they seem incredibly friendly!

When you were explaining at the start what this journey was about, I honestly thought you might have gone a little too far in search of adventure. Both of you seemed to enjoy your trip as it must have been quite enduring to travel to this remote village, sleep on the floor, bare amenities, eating bugs, and especially for me, no AC, no way! Kara and Nate, I found you during COVID, when I was panicked that I would never see the world outside of my home in California, and your adventures literally got me through and helped me to not give up on my travel dreams. This video really touched me and reminded me how little we really need to be happy. What a beautiful experience you’ve had and I feel so lucky that you’ve shared it with us. And, by the way, we begin our travels in August to the UK and Spain!

OMG I just watch this and shock as an Indonesian living in New York. And embracing the fact a place like this is one bit of Sumatra. Where my old great great great parents originally from ( north Sumatera in Lake Toba) when I see this there is a tears in my eyes, oh wow Nate and Kara I never been to this place and never thinking this place is even exist. Wow!!! I can only imagine how you felt… because I didn’t want you to leave. I felt so bonded to them. I now care about them. I care about protecting them and learning from them m. What beautiful beautiful beautiful wonderful people! ❤ There is one thing besides silence that is universal… love actually takes action to show. Love in action is the gift that we give each other. When love is the root of all you do joy is the product of what you make. I am pretty new to Kara and Nate’s channel, but honestly I am hooked. What really draws me in is the authentic content that bring’s us all along for the adventures that you guys have. I have travelled extensively and still I learn and am excited for each new post. This weeks clip really reminds me how easy my life is ( even the days that are hard are still easy ) and that simple acts and interactions are powerful. What an amazing chapter to your life. At the end when Kara was narrating i was filled with emotion. Even without the material things a family can survive and be happy. They were happy to share what little they have. Kara and Nate you did amazing in being appreciative and being respectful. You both are amazing people. Nate you rocked in the tribe apparel! Just wow guys!!! This video was amazing. It was awesome to see the daily life of this tribe. Loved the interactions with the people. The mum was so sweet and cute - the bond you had with her was so special. This was a great mix of beautiful visuals and the reality of living in such a remote location.

That was really something! How you guys just fit in no matter where you go...eating worms, wearing tree bark for pants, etc...and sweating constantly in that environment...something not everyone would be willing to do. Very special indeed! Thank you for sharing it with us!
