Yes the splinted spica bandage can be used to help stabilize a fractured elbow. If the fracture is truly articular then surgical repair is often the best option but the spica can be considered as an alternate way to manage a fracture. How good the outcome will be depends on the specifics of the fracture.

Just found this Channel, great Info ! I got the wrong Bandage (elbow instead of shoulder) so now i must do this while i wait for a Balto. IS this OK for a Dog with suspected Törn Rotator cuff? A great dane too ! . Scapula Is more visible die to atrophy, limp, No pain to Touch outer limb, pain in inside with Solid pressing, pain when Push Joint Upward. Does Not feel dislocated. No Break as No swelling, moves freely enough . 😢😢

Hi, I'm sorry that Balto has a shoulder issue. The atrophy comes from not properly using the limb, dogs with soft tissue shoulder issues often don't display a lot of pain on palpation. I too would complain if you put solidly pressed upward in my axilla (armpit) ;). Soft tissue shoulder issues in dogs are usually found in the larger dogs but a bandage, sling or splint is not usually indicated. Mostly rest (Often starting with 4-6 weeks) and anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed. Other modalities such as physiotherapy can be helpful. It can be very difficult to diagnose the problem as an MRI is often needed. We (the veterinary profession) are getting better with ultra sound of the shoulder; I've read a few interesting papers on it, but that is not my area. A radiologist would need to comment on that.

Does this help for broken elbows on dogs?

How Long can i leave a Bandage Like this ? I think only a couple of days, Maximum . Thanks in advance , If anyone answers😂

I apologize as I see that your question was posed 10 days ago. Please see my answer in your previous question. But as a general answer, the length of duration of the bandage is dependent on the condition; for instance with a fracture it could be 6-8 weeks but the bandage would need to be changed on a regular basis.

how to do this if the dog is in enormous pain and can't let you even touch the leg is my question
@focusandflourish51687 ай бұрын
Ooooh, it breaks my heart to read that your dog is in such pain. Pain medications are helpful in these cases; I wouldn't apply the bandage without if there is that much discomfort. Perhaps your vet can help with that? I hope your dog feels better soon.

@focusandflourish5168 Thank you so much for your kind words!! It's been a tough time seeing him in pain ughh. Despite his discomfort, I decided to gently bandage his arm. Next day the vet said to me, that the unexpected happened- when I encouraged him to get up and bandaged his knee, I inadvertently adjusted his leg, and his knee went back into place- as the injury was a dislocation of the knee from its joint. It was such a relief to see him feeling better. I'm grateful for your support and advice!
