Seems like your middle finger is the most consistently firm and wrapped around the bow?

Many thanks for the wonder tutorial tips! Just wonder when you play fast spiccato and crossing strings, do you stiffen up your forearm? I can play spiccato when they are mostly on one string but not on pieces where there are so many string crossings. Every time it bounces fine at the beginning and when I change to a different string, the bow starts to lose control and slide onto the second string. Any suggestions?😊

What kind of violin do you play? It almost seems like bass was added to the video because the low tones were so booming. Very nice

Guarneris tend to be very deep and have a lot of overtones on g strings so that will prob be why

Hi! I have a question: In Khachaturian's violin concerto, 1rst movement, in the main theme (two semiquavers), does this rule of spicatto apply? I know is very specific, but I recently find it very difficult to play the theme (also when it reapears later) because I don't know if the bow is supposed to be jumping or is more detaché... Thank you!
@KersonLeong
@KersonLeong 4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't actually call that spiccato like in this context, but these exercises (along with those of the previous episode) could be useful all the same to help achieve good initial energy in any short stroke.

I can't figure out the difference of sautille and spiccato, could you tell me the difference?
@KersonLeong
@KersonLeong 4 жыл бұрын
The main difference with sautille is that the bow never actually leaves the string like in spiccato and is generally a faster, less controlled stroke.
@twosetviola8037
@twosetviola8037 4 жыл бұрын
@@KersonLeong Do we use sautille a lot in the piece? For example, mozart violin concerto 3/4/5, Tchaikovsky violin concerto 3rd movement, kreisler preludium and allegro > Do performers use spiccato, or sautille?? Furthermore, could you tell me the piece that requires sautille?? Thanks a lot!
@KersonLeong
@KersonLeong 4 жыл бұрын
@@twosetviola8037 Speed is what mainly blurs the line between the two - Tchaikovsky 3rd mvmt at a fast tempo could be considered more sautille-like for example. I would say the mechanics as covered in this video are the same for both strokes, regardless of speed and how much the bow actually bounces.
@twosetviola8037
@twosetviola8037 4 жыл бұрын
@@KersonLeong Thanks a lot! I want to ask you one more question, please. Do you have some methods to change the bow angle easily while doing spiccato? I always have trouble bouncing the bow when I play the piece "Preludium and allegro" - the (GBEB ACEC GBEB) part at the beginning of allegro.
@KersonLeong
@KersonLeong 4 жыл бұрын
@@twosetviola8037 Anticipation of the string crossing in the elbow and upper arm, as covered in episodes 17, 18, and 21, can really free up responsibility in the forearm/wrist/fingers for executing spiccato.
