Nice restoration and it was ready for it, I used to be in Antique trade and a nice giveaway for its age showed itself whilst i was looking at the small drawers and any old antique dealers will have spotted what i am saying but not giving anything away and if you dont know you dont, but a very nice early piece.

As an ex restorer- conservator of antique furniture for over 35 years this piece is exactly the type of job I would have relished . Not necessarily for the work involved but rather its provenance and its place in British society at that time.

When something is that old, it has been reworked on in every inch. Yet it has essentially survived all the warping and wearing being used day after day for 5 centuries . I am so happy to see your painstaking attention to detail and patience in fixing previous mistakes. Wonderful job!

@thecottackworkshop I will tell you why that is - the camera work is very uncomfortable. I don’t want to be critical, but hopefully it will be taken as constructive because I do think the work is good. Like many people, I watch the woodworking videos to relax, and this made my head hurt. Sorry.

I think part of the reason is people want to see a big change... but when the channel actually properly restores old pieces, there isn't a huge change... so people are more likely to watch channels that don't restore the pieces properly but instead go for the big visual change.

Beautifully restored! The best part was you didn’t strip it down n sanded each piece. You left so much of the patina. You fixed areas that could be fixed n done correctly. I love the new little knobs you put on it. I agree they look more original too. I’ve never seen that style so small. Katy must be very proud of this piece. I hope it continues to be passed down in each generation n taken care of with much love. ♥️♥️♥️♥️😊👍👍👍👍🌟

Its really neat knowing people over the few hundred years its existed have decided to repair it instead of getting a new one. Its easier to make or buy a new one but repairing the old one just adds to its story and adds character. Excellent job keeping this piece of history around and usable. Who knows maybe it will last another 400 years.

Hello from Texas, USA. Wonderful job. Such care taken on preserving the history of the piece. I'm watching you on T.V. while creating future heirloom quilts on my 1910 Singer Lotus treadle machine. It sews beautifully but the cabinet needs help. The top looks terrible but I can live with that for now. It was manufactured in Scotland, so it's been on quite a journey.

That was great, nice job. I collect seventeenth century furniture. It's usually in a bad state here in Ireland. Restorers usually know nothing about it. One thing though, that nail you thought was a carpet tack, I think was a seventeenth or eighteenth century rose head nail. You have given me some good ideas. Keep up the good work.
