I haven't been to a cookie exchange in at least 50 years. Very popular up in the north where I used to live. I think I'll plan one here in Texas this year. Thank you the motivation ❤

I had to pause this and say what a smart idea you have to spray your measuring cup for the molasses! So glad this came up on my suggested videos on KZbin. I need a good ginger spice cookie recipe and I am sure yours will be delicious ❤

I remember helping my mom make cookies for exchanges back in the 1970s. It was so much fun. I now work in a bakery that makes cookies from scratch.

Some cookie exchanges got pretty elaborate back in the 70's. Everyone made piped sugar cookies that were just spectacular. Thanks for watching!

Oh Colleen…..you make me feel better about myself. I have forgotten ingredients a time or two! I neglected to put sugar in my pumpkin pie one Thanksgiving a few years ago! The facial expressions as the first bite was taken was priceless!! I still chuckle about it! The cookies look delicious. Bet they’re good with tea!

I have a book just like that and I am sure I will not be making any changes to it because I love the character of it. The granddaughters and I enjoy flipping through the pages picking what we are having a hankering for. Spiced ginger cookies are my favorite.

I had to chuckle! You and I are sisters by another mother. I have forgotten ingredients when following recipes that not BEFORE I put the mix into a pan on on a sheet, I review the recipe over the bowl. It is kind of a prayer!

I have folders like that too! Recipes handwritten by my sister and recipes from Mom (no longer with us) It is a treasure! When I go looking for a recipe I remember 'the one written non the green sheet of paper, or the one jotted down on the back of something'.......Just makes them even more special. :) Thanks for sharing this recipe! God Bless!

Thsnks Colleen, Ginger cookies are my favorite of all cookies ! I hope you and your family have a blessed holiday season !! Oh I wanted to tell you something I’ve seen done for sugar coated cookies for the holidays , they take colored sugars and mix red, green and yellow together in a separate small bowl and after rolling the cookie in the white sugar they dip the top of the dough in the colored sugar snd it looks festive and pretty colors on top ! God bless ❤️🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈

We're having our family cookie exchange this weekend. This will be our 32nd year! We've done many variations of the exchange. Our first year everyone brought ingredients and baked that day. It took us about 8 hours! Now most bake at home and bring them. Some might bring candy rather than cookies. Now we limit ourselves to just one batch of cookies, however many that may be.We usually have 10-12 people, so if everyone brought 1 dz. that gives people more cookies than they can use. This is the one time in the year that the women in our family gets together, no men allowed!

The cookies look beautiful..I have an old Snidkerdoodle cookie recipe which is the best I've found and it calls for Crisco...this is the only time of year I buy Crisco..replacing it with another fat just doesn't work the same. I love ginger snaps, these would probably a cookie I'd like.

We certainly love the.. when you start baking them the house fills with the smell of the holidays. Honestly we usually make two batches. One in November, which we devour and then another one early in December so we have some for over the holidays. Best wishes, Colleen

Unless your recipe specifically calls for tub margarine you should use stick. Tub margarine has water in it, which will make it be too soft. That may be why you might be having trouble when you leave it out too long.
@oursilvermoments6028 Жыл бұрын
That is exactly why. All I could get at the store was spreadable margarine instead of regular stick.

Are these chewy ginger cookies or crispy ginger cookies? Love your channel Colleen!

I think crispy. I make something very similar, and they are wonderful to dip. Best wishes 💐

Can you please tell me if the ginger cookies are crispy rather than soft and chewy?

My ginger cookies call for shortening. They are very popular but when people ask for the recipe they often change the shortening for butter. The two different fats make a different cookie. I love butter in my other cookies but not my ginger cookies!
@oursilvermoments6028 Жыл бұрын
And margarine is different than it was when this recipe was first made. Today they are soft and spreadable when they used to be much more firm. I love bitter in my cookies usually but not this one. Cheers, Colleen

We call them Molasses cookies. A friend said the recipe they used for generations, no longer works for their Molasses cookies. HAS THIS HAPPENED TO YOU?
@oursilvermoments602811 ай бұрын
No, it works just like it always has. My grandma also called them molasses cookies but on the recipe the title said Spiced Ginger Cookies.
