Would have loved to hear quantities of the spices to get the benefits. How much black pepper is needed to activate turmeric? What amount of turmeric, ginger, cinnamon are added to coffee?

I believe it’s Ceylon Cinnamon we need to use not the Saigon cinnamon is that correct ?
@RK-tf8pqАй бұрын
Yes. The Chinese cinnamon contains coumarin which can be toxic to liver in higher doses (should consume less than a teaspoon for an adult). Sri Lankan cinnamon does not contain coumarin. Both are anti inflammatory.Coumarin can lower blood sugar, but must be careful with doses.

I wonder how beneficial other mints are besides peppermint? I grow my own mints for tea, chocolate mint, spearmint, etc.
@madamehogan8553Ай бұрын
Other mints are beneficial as well! Spearmint is a bit gentler in its effect, some people prefer that. Catnip and all varieties of basils are also mints, all beneficial for sure.

I put a full teaspoon of cinnamon in my oatmeal every morning.....quit putting it in my coffee because it doesn't dissolve, have to keep stirring to disperse it

I take a presciption drug that causes intense gut cramping, occasional vomiting, occasional diarrhea. I can attest that peppermint tea or sucking on peppermint candy is extremely helpful. My Doc prescribed additional drugs for the gut problems (isn't that the way our medical system does it? - take another drug so that you can take the first drug? Jeesh!!) which I rejected since the peppermint works just fine. I'm a big fan of peppermint - very helpful.

I’m in the same boat and find peppermint really helps. I’ve been sucking on peppermint candy. Need to get the sugar out. How do you prepare your tea?
@madamehogan8553Ай бұрын
All of the mints, including basil, catnip along with the obvious ones are good for digestion. Cinnamon, ginger, fennel, fenugreek, the warming spices, all lovely in tea, or in your cooking!

I wish there was a way to set up a consultation with Dr. Bulsiewicz. I have had gut issues for a few years now, and it seems to be getting worse. Even though I have adapted a vegan diet, and consume plenty of fiber, I am still examining symptoms, and not getting any better. I am at my wit's end.

Speaking about the pain lotion. There are some in states where cannabis is legal that are marvelous at stopping joint pain. Way better than anything on the open market and totally given to us by nature. Highly recommended.
@angelahill3556Ай бұрын
Cannabis was a medicine until big farmer came along and stopped it. Cannabis is a medicine given by God to heal people. Just like all the other herbs and spices that the Lord has given us to heal our bodies.

I argued with my Dr for a year over me wanting to come off Prilosec. I never had heart burn in my life until I tried to go cold turkey off it. I was given it for sharp pains in my left in side. It did not help but my Dr told me it wouldn't hurt just keep taking it. 😤 When I stopped taking it i went to the ER certain I was having a heart attack. I convinced my PCP to prescribe a lower dose of Prilosec then very slowly weened off it over a few months with the help of gavascon. It's been a few years now and I feel so much better.
@g.e.boroush5176Ай бұрын
You had proton pump rebound which makes it difficult to get off proton pump inhibitors. Google the term and you will learn how to get off of Prilosec and other PPI's. Then, when you get a little indigestion, just take a Tums and don't get addicted to a PPI again.

Indian and Pakistani food although has beneficial spices but they also have lot of oil or butter. So unless someone makes an effort to super minimize the oils in the curries, biryani etc. I think we loose the benefit and at that point it become as bad as a cheese burger

I used black pepper years ago to the point there my guts can’t handle it anymore, so using turmeric without pepper would be pointless, unless white pepper would work. I was told black pepper was the hardest thing to use on one’s stomach, would love to know if that’s true.
@aureliaglenn2220Ай бұрын
Maybe use turmeric with ginger, as ginger also increases the bioavailability of ingredients.
@chiyeranoАй бұрын
I read somewhere that fat can also increase the absorption of turmeric compounds in food.

Coumarin in cassia cinnamon is too high and not good for your liver. Take ceylon cinnamon which has a small amount of Coumarin which is not harmful to your liver. Please also inform the precaution of the spices. It's important for them to know.

I worked with a man from India that chewed on fennel seeds after eating. He said it was for his breath. I couldn't stand it, I could smell it from across the room. 😮

If you chew it, I think you would like it. (It does smell strong to those not used it, but it tastes refreshing and a little sweet).

The only problem with Indian food is the coconut oil, coconut cream, and coconut far they add to curry. What does Dr B say?
@chiyeranoАй бұрын
Nothing wrong with coconuts. I would be more concerned about the dairy and ghee that are often used in curry and other dishes.
@RK-tf8pqАй бұрын
@@Arugula100 Coconut oil is mainly used in the state of Kerala (which is in south India). . In most of India, various other oils are used. Most of the Indian restaurants abroad are Punjabi style (Punjab is in the North). So I would not worry too much about the use of coconut oil. If you are unsure, ask the server. Coconut cream and coconut fat are also mainly used in South Indian dishes.

Oregano: Similar to thyme, all tested products had concerning levels of heavy metals. Turmeric: Some products were found to have heavy metal contamination. Basil: Certain products showed heavy metal contamination. Paprika: Some products had heavy metal contamination.
