I'm pretty much doing this exact project on my 1977 Thunderbird. She originally had a 351w, and that engine was replaced at some point with a (period correct) engine built in 1979 according to cast numbers. Currently has already been bored .040 over at some point amd has newer mahle pistons in it, so I'm going to just use a ball hone to refresh the cross hatching and put new rings in. For heads, I'm going to use a set of Twisted Wedge aluminum heads, a Weiand dual plane intake, 650 brawler carb and a Howard's cam with .519 lift and 112 separation. I HAD to pull mine because the rear main was shot and I was losing a quart of oil every time I filled up from a pretty significant leak. Nice winter project

Took notes on the engine part. Got a recently acquired 1977 Thunderbird with the 351W in her and while she runs good, I know I can wake her up by removing the 70s vintage ford carb, egr restricted 2 barrel manifold and weak ignition and distributor.

yep, but they used to love boring engines without a torque plate either. in a pinch, one could fill the holes you want to keep clear with shaving cream to catch debris and if its metal shavings put a rare earth magnet in their path. but yeah its funny to talk about making sure you shave the deck perfect and overlook the debris in the shortblock. but hey if no prep stretch says who cares, that tells you what his engines look like.

Not a "oh I added up what the manufacturers of the parts said dyno" I want to say 420ish hp and 435 lb ft tq. The stock heads limit flow which is why tq was higher than hp
