When it comes to airlines you get the best eating experience from that airline's home/main hub airport. This is because they use their own exclusive catering/main caterer that delivers their signature meals from their home airports. When you fly from an airport that is not their home/hub airport, they will use a contracted catering company stationed somewhere in that country, and usually (basically all the time), it's sub-par from their home airport catering.

Where Asiana and Korean air shine is in coach. If you are taking a 12+ hour flight and in coach, you will be doing good. On Delta, AA, or even United; not so much. And Mike is right. The Korean food is good, but not great. Again in coach, for any coach, you are doing well. In business or 1st you should go with beef.

There's a few of those guys who go around reviewing airline food and the general consensus among all of them is pick Asian dishes. Western dishes which are meat heavy like the dreaded airline meatloaf just never translate well because of the changes they have to make for it to be served in the air. Veggies and noodles fair far better.

Mikey, the dessert you liked so much is a traditional Korean dessert called yoo-gwa/han-gwa. It's usually available during the New Year holidays, but not so ubiquitous in the U.S. otherwise. L.A. probably has it all year, or try Korean dduk-jib( rice-cake shops) in any K-town. Also, you can always ask for the spicy go-chu-Jang when you need some extra flavor with any Korean airlines. That should make the flavorless dishes a bit more bearable. Better luck next time!

At 10:05, You raise an interesting point: both Asiana and Korean Air serve Bi bim bop in all three classes of service cuz it's low cost (mostly vegetables) and highly popular with passengers. What's not to like ? They prob plate it better in business class, but basically same dish. Compared to their Asian competitors, Asiana and Korean Air business class meals have not scored high marks with passengers, smallish portions being the common complaints. P.S. --- that pumpkin soup looks like Gerber baby food.
