Yes, I did read about the cell-grown meat. And, even though we, as vegans, won't be eating it, it does give us hope for the mistreatment and exploitation of animals. More to come on this, I'm sure.

I really appreciate your view on the lab grown meat. That’s a perspective I didn’t have. My thing was, meat is bad regardless.. BUT like you said, if it’s doing LESS HARM all around, let’s go that route. People who are gonna eat it are gonna eat it. So, less harm and damage is better than the way it is now for sure. I’ll never go back.. so, do you, as long as it’s not destroying our home

Completely agre with you on lab grown meat! I know there are some people out there who think it's gross because its "not real" (although I'd beg to differ on that because it's literally real animal cells and probably won't need antibiotics/growth hormones because they can grow it however large they want and it will be grown in a sterile/clean laboratory environment...but I digress). With that being said, this isn't for those people then! This is for people who refuse to give up meat, but who are open to the lab grown version because maybe they know the environmental impact it has and the animal welfare issues, but don't care quite enough to actually make a change. This gives them a way of doing that. I think this is huge, and a really good thing.

FYI While Chinese consumption of meat is on the rise, It's also the only country I know of that's actually mentioned meat reductions in their political agenda. China has declared plans to reduce meat consumption by 50% by 2030 (which is part of their aims to reach peak carbon emissions by the same year and neutrality by 2060). While we can debate whether that's enough or if the plan will work, that's another thing, but it's better than a lot of other countries are doing.

I am all for cultivated meat. The cell harvesting doesnt really hurt the animal and you only need one maybe 2 critters as opposed to millions. And the benefits for animal welfare, the environment and eventually the economy are massive. Cultivated meat will eventually be cheaper than corpse derived meat as the technology progresses. I'm thrilled this has been approved by the FDA. Anyone who has questions should take the time to look into this.

A bit of a disappointing read on my end- I can’t find the post my friend shared on this, but I guess according to their post, cell grown meat needs a certain serum in it which requires the host to be alive…… because once extracted fr the body the cells don’t live long. So yeah means lab grown meat isn’t as humane and as big of a breakthrough in the treating animals right as we once thought. Just passing on this info for others to do their own further research, as I will also. By the sounds of it, instead of killing animals for meat, they will be ‘lab rats’ instead which imo could potentially be worse in the sense that they might be kept alive for a long period, caged up just for their cells/serum to be extracted over and over. I’m hoping they’re wrong and that we really have found a way to just make all of it synthetically now though…..
@VeganLiving247 Жыл бұрын
But on the other side I can HOPE that even if they need to keep the animals alive, that it would be far less than how many are suffering now. That’s the hope. But I’m not sure yet as I do need to read up more on it over time. I just wonder if it’s one of those green washing things, (maybe for this could be called humane washing lol?) where it sounded better in theory than it really is in practice.

I don't really get tho that most vegans say they don't want to try the lab meat. If the stuff is as good as it sounds (efficiant production and little to no harm to animals), and you're a vegan or vegetarian that misses the taste of meat, why not? Although I wouldnt eat it myself haha, I have always hated the taste of meat. Lucky me :) But I do think it is kind of a taboo to say you miss the taste of meat as a vegan or vegetarian. That kind of 'all or nothing' thinking is discouraging for non vegans to eat less meat.

I don't understand why they would be against sell grown meat, From my understanding they don't even need to kill the animal to get the stem cells. This is great! I went vegan after many years of my husband and I being together he is NOT vegan, It's not that he doesn't care he has tried to go vegan many many times and it just doesn't make him feel great but is supports me being vegan and actually found out before me about sell grown meat and he was very excited about it. I think it will take people sometime to be okay with this but lets face it big corps run everything once they realize all they have to do is keep a few animals and not millions on acres of land and animals and workers to care for everything but a lab and a few other things sell grow meat will be all there is and I'm fine with that. I think it is unrealistic to expect the whole world to go vegan its just not gonna happen in our life time and this is the next best thing.

I don't think I would eat lab grown meat, because animal products are still bad for your health (see dr. 25:13 It's fine if not every meat eater will try at first, but some at least will. The curious ones, the ones who do feel bad for animals but just don't care enough to give up meat for, and don't forget the "ex" vegans who don't know how to feed themselves on a plant based diet. Cultivated meat will be used by plenty people and then the at first discouraged ones will follow suit anyway.

Milk SHOULD be easier than meat. We've replaced rennet in cheese for the most part by tweaking the DNA in e-coli to have them produce that instead of toxins. Shouldn't be too difficult to tweak it again to make it able to produce milk instead. It might be an issue that it can't be made sterile after, or that it wouldn't produce in large enough quantities to make it economically viable, though. Which is a shame, since any of our agricultural products could be made way better, but are not because "uh, that'd cost a lot, so why should we?" I've ran into that issue trying to make a better greenhouse plan that'd grow everything indoors so we could start using less farmland/clearcutting less. It has apparently been done similarly since I came up with "my" idea, but oh wow, we have to pay for it? No thanks! That said, I'm a vegetarian (sorry. Some weird enzyme deficiency that I can't fill up without a bit of some sort of animal protein.) and am 100% for lab-grown meat.

I get your point, but it's seriously open to manipulation. One day it'll be put forward that vaccinations can be administered through our food. I know not just meat, plants are genetically modified too. I'm bothered by the transhumanist's seeing this as an easier way to manipulate the human genome. I truelly hope you're right and I'm insane and wrong.
@lamiagumbo Жыл бұрын
If youve ever eaten a banana of any kind youve eaten a GMO. Or a tomato. Or a strawberry or almost any plant that humans grow. I assume since youre here you are vegan and I assume you havent grown a second head from eating GMOs. As for vaccinations you misunderstand how vaccine work, they are injected for a reason.
@sea4705 Жыл бұрын
You are lol 😅 At first, oral vaccinations have been around since 1960 and were a popular way to vaccinate against polio back then. In terms of lab grown meat, it’s not about genetic manipulation. It’s just that we can grow meat outside of animals in cells. Practically every active ingredient pharmaceutical drugs that is not a super simple molecule is produced this way these days. So don’t worry 😉
