I love your reviews! Please keep it up! Can I make a recommendation? Some (many?) of us growers have moved away from using a tent to let the plants grow to their full potential. My plants tend to outgrow the tent. I know it's more work for you, but could you also provide a par/spectral map of the lights in open air. IE without any walls? I realize the par numbers will be lower. But it would be nice to know how the light performs in open-air conditions too. Thanks again 🙂.
@MIGROLIGHT2 жыл бұрын
You will lose about 25% of the PAR output without reflective walls of some kind. I am not sure why giving plants room to spread but receive less PAR is a better solution? Would it not be better to use a larger grow tent if you think your plants are restricted?
@toddmoore3818 Жыл бұрын
@MIGRO I like to let my plants grow naturally, like they would outdoors. U don't spend much time training the plants. So the plants tend to outgrow the tents. I have white walls that reflects the light.

Seems pretty cool for people who use added co2. Might also be ok at 70% / 45cm for people who don't.
@Freedom_Born2 жыл бұрын
Indeed, even 80% at 50cm would be okay, but even that would be pushing it. Def wouldn't want 100% without co2. Whether 4x4 or 5x5

Just be conscious of the connector between the driver & the lights. Had one melt on me. Luckily I was present when it went pare shaped. I had to buy a replacement locally to continue the grow, the girls are in flower. Spider Farmer Au is in the eastern states & I am in W.A. I am waiting for a replacement connector. This is for the SE7000 that is less than a year old. As far as I am aware they all have the same connector. No idea if the LEDs have been damaged.

I thought of a situation where growers might want infrared light despite not really doing anything for plantgrowth: growers who are living in colder regions like new zeeland and struggling to keep temps at the desired level during winter (in new zeeland homes are getting quite cold during winter time). Instead of using ventilation to get warm air (of the lamp and driver) down to the plants or relocating exhaust to the buttom to suck the warm air down; infrared would at least make the plants feel warm and cosy despite being just 16°C preventing the effects of cold on the plants.
@Freedom_Born2 жыл бұрын
Handy tip: Use CFL bulbs. 23W is the highest wattage available in NZ/Aus for E27 fixtures (common size - higher watts for bigger sizes, lower watts for smaller). Cool white for veg cos it has extra blue in it. Warm white for flower cos it has more (far) red... both have IR (& UV in minimal amounts), but Warm white has more red overall. Good for flower.

@gedeuchnixan38302 жыл бұрын
@@ShaunTsInsanity I´m not struggleing with low temps, I was just thinking of others and kind you wanna help, but diesel heater inside a home? No freaking way, there´s a god existing before I would concider that. If temps would go too low for me I would simply put a smal air spaceheater running on lowest infront of the intake and it should be just fine. I´m not in the US but Europe so burning diesel for whatever never is an option to concider, rather saving up for some modern and mobile solar panels. And if the property wasn´t located so low compared to the suroundings a modern windturbine in addition would be appriciated as well.
@ShaunTsInsanity2 жыл бұрын
@@gedeuchnixan3830 Thought you're having issues with high electricity bill, so suggested that option. They're pretty safe, people using them in garages all over the world. Of course it's way more easier to use space heater, just watch out for fire.

@chilbertuk19602 жыл бұрын
great review as always thanks shane.. if i recall correctly, plants dont necesserily need 1000umols plus to benefit from higher levels of co2 according to your recent revision of leds and plant growth with dr bruce... a dialed environment could allow co2 to be pushed higher and in turn plants will then upcycle more nutrition etc as they achieve a higher/ faster metabolism. Time to reconsider some aspects of grow advice perhaps regarding co2 ? keep up the great work #love my migros

@@flatearthgenius5732 In a recent interview with Dr Bruce Bugbee, the Dr noted that CO2 was inexpensive and desirable at almost any light level. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKelhaailMyGmdk 😀 Bugbee said, "No, CO2 is a low-cost input and the leaves saturate at about 1200 parts per million. So before you start paying a big electric bill you should always get your CO2 to 1200 parts per million and even if you have lower light intensity it’s still proportionately increases photosynthesis."
@MIGROLIGHT2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are correct. I was amazed to hear CO2 supplementation at lower PAR intensity can result in 20 -30 % increases in yield. It is something I will be exploring. I need to partner with some of these CO2 controller companies to test their products and work out theoretical ROI on using CO2 systems in a closed environment.

@bozbozman15752 жыл бұрын
Shane it is my belief that anything over 500W is too much light for 5x5 space. I can see many YT channel experience "foxtailing" from too much light. I believe that even with the light turned down, they are too close to the plants. There may be something there. I'm not all sciencey like you 😎

this is for Co2 Grows. i use 600w in 4x4(no Co2) and dont have problems with foxtailing.

Nah - I'm running nearly a thousand watts in a 1.7m x 1.5m space with no problems at all. Lights about 18"-24" from the canopy with PAR readings around the 900 mark. In my almost 20 year experience fox-tailing is more cultivar dependent than anything else.
@Khaymen2232 жыл бұрын
I run 940 watts in a 5x5. Seems ok. I have gotten foxtails a couple times but I chalk that up to genetics
@Freedom_Born2 жыл бұрын
Most 5x5 fixtures fit perfectly for a 4x4 with co2. Foxing comes mostly from genes, heat will trigger them easier. I know my beans genes so I know which ones will fox, so i don't use them in the big tents. But yeah I'd rather prefer a 5x5 fixture in a 4x4
