This Aunt May is way more accurate to the source material. Because Aunt May is suppose to be an elderly woman struggling with life after Uncle Ben's death and also taking care and supporting Peter. She struggles but is willing to sacrifice many things to make sure Peter can live well. Marisa Tomie's version was such a drastic departure that people who have read the source material and many other versions say that she really doesn't play Aunt May. Because she is basically just there to be the hot aunt with comedy with very little depth to the character. Another great version of Aunt May is Spider Man PS4/5 Aunt May.

The genuine, raw reality of being a young adult with aging parents/grandparents is so prevalent in Sam Raimi's adaptation that it grounds Spiderman in a world that's believable. That feeling, of knowing how the superhero feels, is something that Marvel is missing in their movies of today. Seeing the disappointment in Aunt May's face over not being able to refinance her home and then over not getting the toaster -it's so simple, but it sets the tone for how bleak her future looks. As my parents age I find I relate more and more to these movies, and I feel the failure and responsibility that comes with not always being able to care for my elders as much as I want to. It's a feeling that's so rarely depicted in movies that to see it in something like Spiderman is truly special and it's not really appreciated as much as it should be.

@DrLipkin Жыл бұрын
It's a little more complicated. Even though the movies insist of making Spider-man into a teenager, in the comics, Peter was only in high school for two years (real world) of published stories. He pretty quickly moved into the professional photographer, scraping by to make rent part of his life. So in the comics, it makes more sense for Aunt May to be older, because Peter is a young adult. Since that was the version of Aunt May that people were familiar with, that's the age they went with for the original trilogy. But when it came time for the MCU, they decided to have an Aunt may that more accurately reflected Peter's age.

The Sam Raimi movies are the most accurate to the original comics. And SM2 is by far the best movie of all the Spidey films. It just nails everything about why the fans fell in love with the character. Spider-Man is just a young dude who cant pay his rent, and make it to class on time. Struggling relationships and trying to save the city at the same time. The saying is that when Spider-Man wins, Peter fails. And when Peter wins, Spider-Man fails. I dont think its ever been shown better than SM2. Andrews portrayal is pretty good. And Toms is fine. Hes just more of the "Disney" version of Spidey to me.

2:52 - Black backpack hits Pete on the right side of his head, and the strap bounces off of his face - that's the director, Sam Raimi. I think it was intentionally planned to have the strap hit him in the face, because in the blooper reel, you can see it get caught on his ear a couple of times. He almost gets caught around the neck with it. I mean, it's a backpack, being held by the director, they're not going to risk actually hurting Tobey's neck. “Punch me and I’d bleed” was Peter’s way of saying he’s present, in the moment, and no longer just a “empty seat” that MJ could touch him as he’s no longer just an invisible friend with no tangibility. As for the Aunt May’s the Raimi Aunt May has Aunt May’s wisdom, motherly and nurturing side as well as how much she’s worrying about Peter. The Amazing Spider-Man Aunt May is a good portrayal of a more 2000s modern aunt, she’ll put her foot down when lines are crossed but she loves Pete dearly all the same and worries for him. The MCU Aunt May isn’t really all that much of a Aunt May except in name only, she’s not bad but doesn’t capture any of her specific characteristics as they rather hype up her beauty than her abilities as a guardian to Peter ‘till about the 3rd movie.
