SPIDER-MAN 3 (2007) Movie Reaction! | First Time Watch | Tobey Maguire | Sam Raimi

When we had Kristen watch Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse, we knew she hadn't seen that movie but what we didn't realize was that she hadn't actually seen the other Spider-Man movies before either, although she is familiar with the character of course.
Kristen is continuing off with Spider-Man 3 by Sam Raimi starring Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Topher Grace, Thomas Haden Church, Bryce Dallas Howard & J.K. Simmons

The Raimi Spider-Man trilogy will always have a place in my heart

I heard somewhere that the original script didn't include the symbiote, and that the studio demanded it because of the character's popularity in comic books. The movie already had Sandman as the villain, as well as the relationship between Peter and Harry to work through. I think adding the Venom symbiote overcomplicated the story and didn't allow the movie to breathe.

I honestly appreciate how nice Gwen seemed here. Going as far as apologizing to MJ. Despite the negative reviews, this movie will always hold a special place in my heart. As a kid, we went to see the midnight release of this movie and it was one of the most exciting nights of my childhood.

Nice reaction - has Raimi made the best superhero trilogy here? His Spiderman cemented the template for the genre, and his films are the most successful in actually placing the VIEWER inside the superhero costume, in a way that feels very personal, and letting us use this scenario to work out our own hopes and doubts - and his flaws are what make him so accessible - the romantic triangle is the real overarching story of this trilogy - and IMO the overarching question of this 3rd film is: How will we say goodbye to Harry, warts and all? And the whole film's designed to give the most satisfying good-bye - by pushing all the tensions and contradictions in the triangle to their extremes - via Harry's amnesia reminding us what might have been, and the Symbiote removing the inhibitions and allowing Peter to give vent to all his buried resentments that have been building up - on these terms, the 3 films form a single story, which comprises the most fully developed romantic arc in any superhero movie, between Peter and MJ - and I do believe Harry had to die for this to be fully resolved - he'd crossed too many lines, as the villain, as his Father's Son - but Raimi's happy ending was to allow him to redeem himself - the whole point of Harry finally ending up on the same page as Peter was to enable him to then die in peace and close the trilogy - and the part w Peter's dancing is perfect, at least while he's out on the street - Raimi is bold in how far he allows us to distance ourselves from him

Ah the Famed Bully Maguire 😂.. To be fair tho, it is still a decent film. The whole arc of Peter going rogue was well deserved IMO.. It's like someone getting really drunk after going through a lot of shit and their inhibitions being completely lowered.. We all are cringy when we don't have to worry about how society looks at it. If anything, that was really good acting from Tobey. Though if you were to consider this a sequel to the excellent Spiderman 2, I can see why it can feel like a disappointment.

The movie is okay. All I'll say is, I read the book. The book was pretty dark. If the movie was anything like the book; I'd say to this day 2023 it would be regarded as one of the best Spider-Man movies still. I recommend the novelization of the film if you really want to see what this movie could have been.

Hi Kristen with the crazy name!😉 I didn't care for how flawed Peter is in this film. Then, he is taken over by Venom. Then there is the birth of "Bully Macguire".😆 In this film Venom probably amplifies what is inside the host. That would explain the differences between Peter and Brock with Venom. I don't like Harry getting killed after he is back to his normal self. The Sandman does seem like an odd character for a villain in a Spider-Man film. My favorites in order are #2, #1, & #3. Great reactions to the final Raimi film in the trilogy, Kristen!!!🎬👏👏👏👏

A bit late but the symbiote's effect on Eddie was more extreme because he was already a hateful jerk and not as strong willed as Peter. It was nearing a stage where it was ready to take full control of the host by the time it got on him. The symbiote learned Peter's powers, Eddie got a taste of that power (literally) and the rest is history.

Not everyone is going to like every movie the same. 🤷‍♂ A lot of the complex plot comes from Sony insisting on having so many villains stuffed into the movie. I suspect that's why we never got a Spider-Man 4; Raimi had had it. Fun Fact: Raimi always includes a cameo by Bruce Campbell in his movies. He was the wrestling MC, the theater doorman, and in this case the maître d. I liked Ursula. She reminded me of Peter crushing on MJ in the first movie. Now you can catch the two Andrew Garfield Amazing Spider-Man movies!

All bully Macguire jokes aside, this movie is the perfect example of what happens when studio heads interfere WAY too much. Sandman was supposed to be the only villain but the studios told Sam Raimi to put Venom in because he was so popular. But it wound up weighing down and over stuffing the movie. The very creator of Venom Todd McFarlane himself said on Collider that his biggest complaint was that they made Venom way too small. He’s supposed to be BIG, he wanted readers to feel like Spider-Man was a featherweight going up against Mike Tyson when he was the heavyweight champion of the world. And it does NOT feel like that in this movie. And the very ending genuinely sucks because it ends on a “will they, won’t they” shot of Peter and MJ dancing with a sense of melancholy. And that was because there was supposed to be a Spider-Man 4 that would’ve wrapped up the story, and it was gonna have Vulture as the villain. They went as far as getting the Vulture suit made before they were shut down.

It’s some old man who’s the reason Spider-Man 3 was what it was 😒. Sam raimi said he wanted to do something different that would’ve been better. But the old man said add venom. He’s the reason we don’t have Spider-Man 4. I was 12-13 when this came out so I still love it. It’s not in my top 3-4 but it’s still good.

I really hate Spider-Man 3. Spider-Man 3 is the only Spider-Man movie in which Spider-Man is completely unlikable from the start of the movie for no reason, and what's worse is that he didn't even bond with the symbiote in the beginning, therefore he has no reason to be acting out of character and after he does bond with it he turns into an emo version of himself, which is awful from begining to end. And that's only some of the problems. You still have the miscast of Topher Grace as Eddie Brock (who by the way feels shoehorned in the film) and I truly don't how anyone could make that casting work and Venom in general had no personality whatsoever and was just a generic monster at the end. Not to mention the whole dumb subplot with Harry's amnesia. And furthermore on Harry, the character himself overall comes off as a less interesting version of his father, plus James Franco's weird performance doesn't really help either. Sandman is the best character in the movie, but the unnecessary rewrite of him being uncle Ben's killer took away from Spider-Man's responsibility over his death and just felt like the writers needed to force a personal connection with Sandman. Also, why was Gwen Stacy in the movie? I understand that Eddie needed to have an love interest (which she really wasn't) but there was no reason for that character to be Gwen Stacy since she was pretty much a throw away character in the movie and really nothing like she was in the comics.

nice video 🙂 but for me "the Amazing Spiderman" with andrew garfield is the best^^ garfield is the best mix of modern and goofy 😛 Mcguires one is little oldschool for me and Hollands one is just too joung. ion this movie; Harry is the star for me. Love the Actor.

Spider-Man 3 is honestly way more hopeful than the last two. The religious undertones are a part of what makes the film great. The reoccurring theme of "sins swallowing you whole" and ending it with "despite your shortcomings, those second chances will always be there so long as you look for it" is inspiring. It’s also surprisingly grounded for the material it adopts too. Definitely one of the those films where if you take it as is and don't activiely analyze it, you’ll only end up making yourself unhappy.
