Damn, this PS2 version did do the whole "can't take it off easy" thing. Really, it's the best way the black suit switching was implemented in a game. "Sure, you can use the crutch... but you can't take it off". It'd only be better if there was a cost to actually wearing it. Really, that'd be so cool.

I thought that if you wear it for too long then it starts to slowly drain your HP

@@hoshiryu If you wear it for too long, Peter goes unconscious instead, and that can fail a mission cause it counts as dying.

There is a downside, but its really noticeable throughout the game. The blacksuit gives Peter a fixed amount of health and a different set of moves. Very helpful early game, a downgrade by the time you maxed out Spidey's upgrades.

I can’t believe Spider-Man 3 on the PSP had this simple feature of swapping between the red and black suit in real time. And insomniac couldn’t add that feature on a more advanced hardware.

3:13-3:45 For those who don't understand what happened at this part: When the grey bar(below the red health bar) reached to the maximum & spidey's fighting skills will become more aggressive & the timer with spider logo will show up at the above of health bar If u don't take off the black suit before the timer reach zero, the screen will turn to black instantly representing spidey is dead or fainted or maybe fully controlled by the symbiote & the "game over" screen message will show up & ask u start over from the last checkpoint or quit the mission when u are in the mission or restart the game when u are in free roam like every time u failed the mission or spidey's health reached zero

@@BigRedBird it could have, but it sounded like Venom wanted to take full-on control of Spider-Man by letting Peter kill Eddy, after fully infecting the city. This is, to me, the reason why the symbiote gave us more free-will in Web Of Shadows, and never tried to control Spider-Man. It was all to make Peter appreciate what the symbiote gives again in order to control him more easily, and make him understand that : " Without the symbiote, you're nothing ".

@@simaopinto8521 It’s a fun game mechanic that was a top fan requested feature for insomniac sm2, the only reason why people got the ps2 sm3 copy. You can take off the black suit and only have metal spider arms in free roam…you can wear suits from all movies…you can wear animated suits from another dimension... And ur worried about it being “only lore accurate” it’s just a mechanic that adds depth to the gameplay. U don’t know gaming.

How I wish Insomniac had given the suit this much attention to detail in their own game. Would've been so cool to be able to switch to the Symbiote whenever you wanted without needing a meter to do it at any time and being able to use unlimited surge mode and having all of those animations for wanting to switch back into the red suit as well. The map changing would've been sick as well.

@@marcsanz3912 yes, bcuz playing woke marvel's spiderman 2 is doing someone a favor. seeing gay pride flags spammed across the city, where spider-man is hooking up gay teens for homecoming party in high schools, flying with pigens in pointless side missions, where u play as mary jane throughout the game for her force stealth missions in the main story when she's just a discount Lois lane and have her as boss fight as scream while removing characters from the source material like Eddie brock and Donna Diego - (the actual scream from the comics/source material) while also play as a deaf girl/miles girlfriend; a black stereotype: promoting vandalism when doing graffiti on other ppl's properties and also having life is strange segments all mashed into the game for filler, to an overprice and overrated ps5 that still looks like late ps3 and ps4. to a game where peter parker spider-man is giving up as spider-man by handing it over to miles, so he can be the new spider-man going forward. the game is ASS and i wasted 10 hrs of my life that i can never get back watching that glitchy, buggy garbage and i love how miles is a gary sue throughout the entire game. shit is a wannabe bee-nox's tasm and edge of time clone and Treyarch's Raimi spider-man, web of shadows & even ultimate spider-man clone as well. overhyped, overrated, uninspired fan fiction "game-verse".

This version was way better than the PS3. The fact that we can switch suits with a press of a button and do some QTEs was something Insomniac should have implemented in the game. But I do love the Symbiote Surge though. I wonder if it was inspired by the overuse of the black suit but in their version it was to match Kratos' Spartan Rage.

Nah, web of shadows has almost none of the features shown in this video (like the need and struggling to take it off or the map changing the more you use it, that happens because of venom in WOS). Also wearing the Black suit in gameplay has no impact on the story decisions in WOS (huge missed opportunity imo). Especially the different animations when you fail taking it off on each stage of the struggle are extremely badass in this game. Sadly they don't work with the collectible Black suit after you finish the game, that one's literally just like WOS, no timer before you put it back on either. Don't get me wrong tho WOS is a great game as well (and also shows an extremely vile version of Black Suited Spider-Man that literally becomes a terrifying villain) but far less cinematic and way more arcadey and has the unrealistic Black Suit abilities from some of the comics instead of the based Combat moves of Spider-Man 3 (that long Headbutt/Kick combo is badass). Overall Spider-Man 3 is better.

Web of Shadows is built on the skeleton of the PS3/Xbox 360 version of Spider-Man 3. WOS was known internally as Spider-Man: RvB. There is a playable build with a few test missions and the shield helicarrier.
