"Whether he wants spider man to be his son, or he wants him to get jumped by a group of super villains!" It's a joke about the civil war movie and comic, because spider man later quits working for iron man and works for captain America but is pissed off because he spent his literally time making him a suit just so he would join and reveal his secret identity, spider man does get saved by punisher, iron man gets hated by new York for a while even though he won the war, Peter one time got him jumped by venom and carnage.

To this day I have my Marvel Legends Iceman and Firestar on my Spider-Man shelf. Over the years Spidey did have superhero friends like Johnny Storm and Nate Grey, so the concept of him going to university with two other superheroes wasn't that far fetched. Even if the concept did get cheesy at times. But hey, there is nothing more delicious than a good slice of 80s cheese.

This cartoon is why we had Spiderman underoos. True story, I was born in 1978 so I was the kid wearing those undies. And superhero crossovers were also pretty new. Which was followed up by "Secret Wars" and "Infinity Gauntlet" which were the first big crossover events that saw Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Spiderman, Hulk, and etc, team up. I wasn't really exposed to Spidey w/ Amazing Friends until my early teens. By then we had already had the Fox Kids series and even the first movie. I was thoroughly underwhelmed by the style of the show. It seemed closer to the 60's series than the 90's. Dan seemed weird as Peter to me as well. *HOWEVER...* When I saw Peter show up to a costume ball in his costume with a plastic halloween mask that wraps around the back with an elastic? My jaw hit the floor. I was laughing and surprised, pleasantly. It seemed so clever and in keeping with Peter's personality that I try to give it a watch when I come across it now. Gilvezan grew on me quite a bit as well. The moral of the story is sometimes things that seem old and stupid have a little more going on than you might realize at first glance.
